Introduction: The increasing use of simulation in health care and advancing capabilities of virtual technology have increased the use of virtual avatars. Recently, the development of large language models has created an opportunity for virtual reality (VR) simulation through combination of VR and artificial intelligence (AI). This study sought to evaluate the perception of authenticity in prerecorded virtual simulated patient interactions using two different avatar platforms: AI avatar and live actor avatar.

Methods: Participants included 41 health professionals with patient care experience, of which 32 completed the post experience survey. Using a repeated measures mixed methods research design allowed …

As such, it is a key component in the creation of a positive teacher–student environment that leads to academic success. Because of the subjective nature of the term respect, it is important to determine how specific students perceive it. Effective mentorship is fundamental to professional development in nursing; however, there are limited initiatives that cater to the unique cultural and contextual needs of Filipino American nurses. To bridge this gap, the Philippine Nurses Association of America launched its Patnubay sa Pagtatagumpay Program (P3). This innovative initiative offers a culturally tailored approach to mentorship, incorporating features such as mentor-mentee pairings, structured goal setting, and year-long cohort support. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of the P3 program, with initial outcomes indicating high overall satisfaction from both participants. Drawing on theorists such as Bruno Bettelheim, Lucy Bonds, Stef Craps, Dominick LaCapra, and Laura Loumeau-May, this paper explores the role of trauma and healing in Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series by examining protagonist Feyre Archeron’s journey. Specifically, Feyre’s journey with trauma and how she heals throughout the series. The analysis highlights how Feyre’s recovery is deeply tied to empathy, her acts of artistic creation, and her evolving relationships with others, especially with those who have also endured their own trauma. Anticipating The Unexpected: Preservice Teachers Learn Through An Unbalanced Scale Task, Christine J. Picot, Josip Slisko

This article examines how an unbalance scale task prompted seven preservice teachers (PSTs) to confront and revise their assumptions about student thinking. Tasked with predicting how early elementary students (K-2) might make an unbalanced scale equal, teacher candidates largely anticipated additive or subtractive solutions and less frequently redistributive solutions. However, several students proposed creative strategies including one who removed all the cubes creating an equal 0 = 0 scenario. This moment sparked deep reflection and a broader reconsideration of what it means to anticipate diverse students reasoning. Black Student Affairs Professionals (SAPros) at predominantly White institutions (PWIs) experience high levels of emotional labor that diminish job satisfaction and increase turnover, threatening workforce diversity and culturally affirming student support. However, limited understanding exists of how emotional labor relates to job satisfaction among Black SAPros at PWIs and whether emotional dissonance mediates this relationship. Grounded in Hochschild’s emotional labor theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between emotional labor scores as measured by the Emotional Labor Scale and job satisfaction scores as measured by the Job Satisfaction Survey and to determine whether emotional …

Service is an important element of the faculty experience at Queens College. In Spring 2025, the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership (CETLL) convened two panels about fulfilling expectations for service activities for QC faculty at various stages of tenure and promotion. Each of the panels was comprised of deans, department chairs, and faculty members, including a Provost’s Faculty Fellow.
