Growth Mindset And Generative Ai, J. Elizabeth Clark, Casandra Silva Sibilin
Growth Mindset And Generative Ai, J. Elizabeth Clark, Casandra Silva Sibilin
Open Educational Resources
This module expands the CUNY Learning Mindsets framework—originally developed with the University of Virginia’s Motivate Lab to support student motivation through growth, purpose and relevance, and sense of belonging (GPS)—by introducing a fourth module focused on generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI). Designed in spring 2025 by CUNY Learning Mindset Ambassadors Casandra Silva Sibilin and J. Elizabeth Clark, the module integrates growth mindset principles with emerging research on Gen AI to help educators and students engage with these tools as opportunities for learning and development rather than shortcuts or sources of academic misconduct.
The module provides an introduction to …
Educational Technology In Peer-Led Academic Support In Higher Education: The Impact Of Technology-Focused Training On Peer Educators’ Session Plans, Christopher Gulino
Educational Technology In Peer-Led Academic Support In Higher Education: The Impact Of Technology-Focused Training On Peer Educators’ Session Plans, Christopher Gulino
Theses and Dissertations
Students interact with technology daily; whether that is in the classroom, engaging with classmates, or studying material. Although technology has been widely adopted across the field of higher education, it has not been widely utilized to engage with students through the peer-to-peer support model. The purpose of this action research was to evaluate the implementation of educational technology training and its effect on undergraduate peer educators’ confidence to utilize technology in their plans for their peer-to-peer support sessions at a university in the southeast of the United States of America. The research will address the following research questions: How confident …
Development Of Teacher Leader Identities In Stem Teacher Leader Programs: Key Experiences From The Perspectives Of Program Developers And Program Completers, Paula Adams
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this qualitative case study was to add to the understanding of attributes of a STEM teacher leader project that contribute to the growth of STEM teacher leader identity. Single case study design was employed to explore key experiences in a collaborative Science Technology Engineering and Math teacher leader project and to explore how those experiences enhanced the teacher leader identity of participants. This research includes seven programs from six universities across the United States. The perceptions of two subunits, program developers and program completers, were considered. Data collection began with a document review which included initial university …

Exploring Cultural Capital And Literacy Practices In Chinese Immigrant Families: A Critical Ethnographic Case Study, Yuechen Sun
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation explores the cultural capital and literacy practices of Chinese immigrant families residing in a Southeastern U.S. city. Using an ethnographic case study approach, the research examines two groups of Chinese immigrant parents: those with higher educational backgrounds and those who are restaurant owners. The study investigates how parents’ educational and cultural backgrounds influence their perceptions of and commitments to their children’s education, as well as their home literacy practices. It also explores their understanding of the model minority stereotype and their views on educational equity in the U.S. The findings reveal that both groups of parents value education …

Evaluating Chatgpt To Answer Multi-Modal Exercises In Computer Science Education, Eng Lieh Ouh, Kar Way Tan, Siaw Ling Lo, Benjamin Gan
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
This study investigates ChatGPT-4o's ability to answer multi-modal assessment exercises in computer science (CS) courses. While the use of large language models (LLMs) to answer text-based exercises are extensively researched, their ability to answer exercises involving artifacts of other modalities remains underexplored. To close this gap, we evaluate ChatGPT-4o's answers to 120 multi-modal CS exercises in programming, software design, human-computer interaction, statistical analysis, process analysis, and simulation. The multi-modal artifacts in these exercises include class diagrams, sequence diagrams, user interface images, analytical charts, workflow diagrams and object-flow diagrams. Our comparisons to the expected answers of these exercises show that ChatGPT-4o …

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Purpose: This study examines the influence of a relationship marketing-inspired welcome video on the matriculation decisions of Generation Z candidates accepted into a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in central Virginia. The Generation Z cohort, characterized as digital natives sensitive towards authentic, personalized communication, represents a significant segment of the higher education market. Utilizing the Generational Cohort Theory, this research explores how tailored marketing efforts can effectively engage this group. Methods: The study involved 163 applicants, 107 offers, and 52 students who accepted a position in the 2027 cohort, with 53% of these students receiving the welcome video in …

Faculty and Staff Publications & Presentations
This qualitative case study investigates faculty perspectives on artificial intelligence (AI) integration within a private university context, examining pedagogical, administrative, and ethical implications. Data collected through semi-structured interviews with faculty across four disciplines revealed ambivalent yet cautiously optimistic attitudes. Participants acknowledged AI’s potential to enhance personalized learning and reduce bureaucratic burdens through automation. However, three critical barriers emerged: (1) insufficient institutional technological infrastructure, (2) lack of systematic faculty training programs, and (3) unresolved ethical dilemmas surrounding data privacy, algorithmic bias, and academic integrity. Notably, while faculty welcomed AI as a supplemental tool, they unanimously emphasized the irreplaceable role of human …

Impact of Tailored Educational Strategies on Academic Performance
This article explores the impact of customizing education to accommodate different learning styles and its potential to enhance Physician Assistant (PA) student success. Tailored learning strategies can address diverse learners, leading to improved retention of medical knowledge. PA students who retain information become better-prepared healthcare providers, which in turn leads to improved patient outcomes. The literature review highlights Kolb's learning style inventory, which includes visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile learning styles. However, with a deeper look into learning styles, they can be further defined as sensing and intuitive perception, visual and verbal …

The Journal of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) contain valuable knowledge that can be useful in a wide range of research areas. Accordingly, we are building electronic infrastructure leveraging advanced work on digital libraries, for discovering and accessing the knowledge buried in ETDs. In this paper we focus on our work to incorporate topic modeling into digital libraries for ETDs. We present ETD-Topics, a framework that extracts topics from a large text corpus in an unsupervised way. The representations learned from topic models can be useful for downstream tasks such as searching and/or browsing documents by topic, document recommendation, topic recommendation, and describing …

Psychology Faculty Articles and Research
Learning is a lifelong process exercised within and beyond the classroom, and a vital skill in almost all technical professions. Engineers, in particular, are impacted by rapidly evolving technologies and practices that require continuous learning and adaptation long after their training and the initial transition into their professional careers. However, despite the critical role of learning in their academic success and profession, engineering students experience academically rigorous and challenging courses with minimal emphasis or conscious focus on learning strategies that power effective learning. Often-used learning strategies such as rereading, highlighting, repetition, and memorization are intuitive for many students, yet do …

Faculty Implementation Of Online Teaching Practices Learned In A Professional Development Course, Laurie Ann Pendleton
Faculty Implementation Of Online Teaching Practices Learned In A Professional Development Course, Laurie Ann Pendleton
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem addressed through this study was the low implementation rate of practices learned during professional development courses which can limit positive student outcomes. The purpose of this qualitative study was to identify the challenges online faculty encounter when implementing teaching practices learned in an online PD course in effective online teaching practices and to better understand the characteristics of the practices they were able to implement. Rogers's diffusion of innovation theory grounded the study. In this basic qualitative study, semistructured interviews were conducted with a purposeful sample of 12 participants who recently completed the course and responded to an …
