As the fall season progresses and temperatures drop, now is the perfect time to step outside and take in the beauty of the season change.

Dr. Bethany Novotny, associate professor in East Tennessee State University’s Department of Counseling and Human Services, said that it is crucial for students to explore the outdoors.

She said that with the increase in technology being incorporated into our daily lives, we are spending less time outdoors. Additionally, technology is bringing added anxiety and stress into students’ lives.

The solution is to spend more intentional time outside, she said.

“I don’t think it’s a surprise …

Effects Of Clinical Competency In Nursing Students Following The Implementation Of Student-Led Learning, Cori E. Hack, Jacob N. Hicks

Scholars Week

Research and supporting evidence represent a gap identified in didactic learning between students and faculty. This gap shows emotional factors of the nursing curriculum that may suggest negative impacts on nursing students, but also improvements that can be made to increase students’ clinical competency levels. By adhering to strict definitions of student-led learning theory and clinical competency, we were able to create concrete evidence with measurable data that can contribute to the elimination of this gap in learning. Upon inspection of past text, we identified a need for further research on this topic to bring awareness and encourage this method …

Famous for their habits of downing trees and damming rivers, beavers leave a major impact on their environments. In fact, scientists have said that beavers change their surroundings more than any other animal besides humans.

And new research suggests that these rodents have been modifying forests and rivers for millions of years.

These insights come from a study published in the journal “Palaeontologia Electronica” by Kelly Lubbers, bonebed paleontologist at The Mammoth Site in South Dakota and an alumnus of East Tennessee State University’s paleontology master’s program, and Dr. Joshua Samuels, associate professor in the ETSU Department of Geosciences …

“What an opportunity to live out the mission of ETSU to improve the quality of life for people in the region and beyond,” said Drs. Kim Hale, a professor in Educational Foundations and Special Education and director of the Center of Excellence …

When the state of Tennessee called upon its institutions to offer a certificate program to train more child welfare advocates, East Tennessee State University answered.

Across the state, there is a critical need for more people trained to recognize and intervene when children are being maltreated or abused at all levels of intervention – from the Department of Children’s Services and the court system to police officers and educators.
