Selectivity Of Migration From Minnesota Farms, Lowry Nelson
Selectivity Of Migration From Minnesota Farms, Lowry Nelson
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
The volume of migration from farms in the United States has been one of the remarkable· population· trends of the last quarter of a century. In spite of the steady increase in the Nation's population, the number of persons on farms has been declining. The farm population reached the lowest point in perhaps half a century during the years of World War II. As of 1947, the farm population is still less by some 3 million than it was in 1940, although there has been some recovery from the low point of 1945. This trend has been made possible by …

Geographic Interpretation Of Land Use In Lorain County, Ohio, George M. Howe
Geographic Interpretation Of Land Use In Lorain County, Ohio, George M. Howe
Honors Papers
Geographic study aims at systematic description and interpretation of the interrelationship of organic and inorganic things on the face of the earth. The geographer analyzes land use patterns in the attempt to understand the intimate relationship existing between man and the geographic environment. The number of people that a given amount of land will support, and hence the manner in which this population uses that land, is a function of the resources of the area and the culture of the men making up the population. Basically, resources of the land are its geographic elements of soil, climate, physiography, and vegetation; …

Plan Of Development For Valley Gravity Project, Julius A. Krug, Michael W. Straus, Wesley R. Nelson
Lower Rio Grande Valley Curated Material
"The Valley Gravity Project Plan has been formulated to furnish an adequate and dependable irrigation water supply for fertile and productive area in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas, It would also provide drainage works, which would remove the threat of destruction of the economy of the area due to effects of a high water table and salt accumulations. The project works would permit generation of the maximum practicable amount of electrical energy which otherwise would be required to operate irrigation pumping plants. Other incidental benefits include fish and wildlife conservation, recreation and flood control."

The Artificial Drainage In Lorain County, Ohio, Jessie Rose Turk
Honors Papers
The purpose of this thesis is to explain why artificial drainage is necessary in Lorain County, Ohio, and how it has been accomplished under county supervision.
Artificial drainage is the process of removing an excess of water from the soil by means of open ditches or underground drains. Its main purpose is to improve the condition of the soil for agriculture. The maps showing the location of the county ditches and …
