Attenuation Model And Law Of High-Frequency Drilling Fluid Pressure Wave, Zhou Botao, Su Yinao, Wang Jiajin Sep 2023

Attenuation Model And Law Of High-Frequency Drilling Fluid Pressure Wave, Zhou Botao, Su Yinao, Wang Jiajin

Coal Geology & Exploration

The technology of transmitting high-frequency drilling fluid pressure wave information with high transmission rate. It is also one of the key technologies to achieve the automated and intelligent drilling. However, the field application of this technology is hindered by the substantial attenuation experienced by high-frequency drilling fluid pressure waves during the transmission process. Thus, exploring the attenuation characteristics of these waves is crucial for the development of high-speed transmission technology. Herein, it is assumed that the drilling fluid pressure is equivalent on the same section of drill string, and the flow rate of drilling fluid is radially distributed. On this …

Analysis On Motor Output Characteristics And Influencing Factors Of Oscillating Valve Mud Pulser, Qu Hanwu, Shang Jie, Lu Huatao, Wang Zhiming, Chen Kun

Coal Geology & Exploration

The oscillating valve pulser is a better choice for high-speed mud pulse transmission due to its capability of generating a higher frequency carrier. Great difficulties are brought to the research on the motor output characteristics due to the complex load moment and its numerous influencing factors during the operation. Using the dynamic balance equation for the motor operating in underground coal mine, the position angle and output current data of the oscillating valve motor under the Max Torque per Ampere (MTPA) control mode were obtained by measurement in the water cycle experiment. Then, the output torque and output power of …

Drilling Core Identification Based On Natural Image, Gao Hui, Wu Zhenkun, Ke Yu, Tan Songcheng, He Siqi, Duan Longchen

Coal Geology & Exploration

The traditional on-site core identification and recording mainly rely on the experience of technicians, and there are many uncertain factors. Limited by the site conditions, using mobile phones or cameras to capture the natural images is the most convenient way to collect the core information. Therefore, it is necessary to study the feature information extraction technology of core image and apply it to the identification and prediction of core type and other information. Specifically, a large number of core samples were collected, the thin-section identification method was employed to determine the core types and names, and then the core images …

An Intelligent Prediction Method And Interpretability For Drag And Torque Of Drill String, Liu Muchen, Song Xianzhi, Li Dayu, Zhu Shuo, Fu Li, Zhu Zhaopeng, Zhang Chengkai, Pan Tao Sep 2023

An Intelligent Prediction Method And Interpretability For Drag And Torque Of Drill String, Liu Muchen, Song Xianzhi, Li Dayu, Zhu Shuo, Fu Li, Zhu Zhaopeng, Zhang Chengkai, Pan Tao

Coal Geology & Exploration

The accurate characterization and dynamic analysis of drilling string mechanics are essential to ensure the safe and efficient drilling. In the classical soft/rigid string model for drag & torque of drilling string, the friction coefficient of the drilling string is determined by empirical estimation or post-drilling inversion, of which the accuracy and timeliness needs to be improved. Based on the effectiveness of artificial intelligence technology applied in complex nonlinear mapping, a drag and torque prediction method of drill string with mechanism-data fusion was proposed by predicting the friction coefficient. Firstly, the friction coefficient was inversed using the drilled and logged …

Partnering For Climate Resilience: Exploring The Maturity Of Private-Sector Efforts In The Great Lakes Region, Lisa Greenwood, Yewande Abraham, Jennifer Schneider, Vicki Lin

Articles

Communities and businesses continue to experience the effects of climate change as global temperatures rise and extreme weather events become more frequent. In the United States (US), the public sector has traditionally been responsible for mitigating these risks; however, engaging the private sector is crucial, given industrial impacts on and vulnerability to climate change. Private-sector mitigation and adaptation efforts are critical in the Great Lakes Region due to aging infrastructure as well as its economic, environmental, and political importance in the US and Canada. This study explores private-sector resilience efforts in three Great Lakes cities to identify opportunities and trends …

A Citizen Science Experiment: How Well Do Park Visitors Identify Wetland Health?, Madison Cicha, Kassidy Haynes, Andrew Mehring, Mark Tierney, Andrea Gaughan Phd

The Cardinal Edge

Citizen science refers to a discipline of scientific projects that utilize public participation and collaboration to complete or supplement a collected data set. Our study as a whole aims to assess the greenhouse gas (GHG) source-sink status of small, constructed wetlands in Kentucky through field and remotely sensed data. Additional facets of the project include evaluating the influence of the primary producer community on GHG uptake and emissions, and our ability to identify healthy small wetlands from science and community-based perspectives. Specifically, the citizen science aspect intends to assess both (1) gaps between knowledge of the general public regarding wetland …

Single activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in a homogeneous system is sometimes insufficient for producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) for water treatment applications. In this work, manganese spinel ferrite and graphitic carbon nitride (MnFe2O4/g-C3N4; MnF) were successfully used as an activator for PMS under visible light irradiation to remove the four-mostdetected- hormone-contaminated water under different environmental conditions. The incorporation of g-C3N4 in the nanocomposites led to material enhancements, including increased crystallinity, reduced particle agglomeration, amplified magnetism, improved recyclability, and increased active surface area, thereby facilitating the PMS activation and electron …

Microplastics Distribution Within Western Arctic Seawater And Sea Ice, Alessandra D’Angelo, Nicole Trenholm, Brice Loose, Laura Glastra, Jacob Strock, Jongsun Kim

School of Earth, Environmental, & Marine Sciences Faculty Publications

Microplastic pollution has emerged as a global environmental concern, exhibiting wide distribution within marine ecosystems, including the Arctic Ocean. Limited Arctic microplastic data exist from beached plastics, seabed sediments, floating plastics, and sea ice. However, no studies have examined microplastics in the sea ice of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and Tallurutiup Imanga National Marine Conservation Area, and few have explored Arctic marginal seas’ water column. The majority of the microplastic data originates from the Eurasian Arctic, with limited data available from other regions of the Arctic Ocean. This study presents data from two distinct campaigns in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago …
