The Salinity And Hydrology Of The Tambellup Townsite And Jam Creek Catchment, R Ferdowsian, A T. Ryder

Resource management technical reports

The study area covers the Tambellup Town and the Jam Creek Catchment (top photograph on cover). The Tambellup Town is located 115 km north of Albany. The town has a population of 360 people (800 in the whole Shire). Tambellup is experiencing increasing salinity problems. Saline groundwater levels are close to the soil surface and cause deterioration of buildings, roads, infrastructure, death of trees and scalding of land including the sporting grounds. Many hectares of land in the Jam Creek Catchment has become salt-affected and salinity is on increase. The objective of this study was to define the present salinity …

Federal Land Management: Authorized Uses In The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, General Accounting Office, Barry T. Hill

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

On September 18, 1996, President Clinton designated about 1.7 million acres of federal land in southern Utah as the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The monument, which covers an area larger than the State of Delaware, is administered by the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (ELM). Within this land area, mineral leases, grazing allotments, and other land-use authorizations remain valid despite the area's designation as a national monument. To respond to interest in the extent to which these authorized uses exist, we obtained information on the number of mineral leases, grazing permits, and other use authorizations for BLM-managed …

Development Of Constructed Wetlands For The Reuse Of Wastewat R In Semi-Arid Regions, Byung J. Kim, Sherwood C. Reed, Thomas Andrew, Patrick D. Sullivan, U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

Hill Air Force Base (AFB), UT, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR). The range contains waste-water treatment and disposal facilities that consist of two infiltration ponds operated in parallel, followed by an emergency overflow basin that safeguards against unexpectedly high flow rates. A previous evaluation concluded that the existing facilities should be replaced, at a relatively high cost and with no possibility for beneficial water reuse. The U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories (USACERL) was requested to further evaluate the system and to identify cost-effective, feasible alternatives. USACERL researchers identified a …

Investigation Of The Statistical And Spatial Distributions Of Mercury Contaminated Fish, Surface Waters And Soils In Arkansas, H. D. Scott, J. M. Mckimmey Jan 1997

Investigation Of The Statistical And Spatial Distributions Of Mercury Contaminated Fish, Surface Waters And Soils In Arkansas, H. D. Scott, J. M. Mckimmey

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

Mercury (Hg) contamination of fish is a widespread problem throughout much of the United States and the world (Louisiana WWW page, 1997). Levels ofHg in fish suffic1ent to exceed the FDA action level of 1 mg kg-1 have been found in many water bodies, including some in Arkansas and Louisiana. As a result of the serious public health ramifications for developing fetuses and for people that subsist on native fish, fish consumption advisories due to Hg contamination have been issued in 29 states. Contamination of surface water bodies by Hg results from deforestation, forest fires, fossil fuels, mining, natural emissions …

These soils have been formed from various parent materials in a a range of depositional environments. Siliceous sand and sodic soils formed in alluvial-lacustrine sediments predominate. The main soils were sampled for chemical and physical analysis and their morphological, chemical and physical properties are discussed …

Fourmile Timber Sale Final Environmental Impact Statement, United States Forest Service Jan 1997

Fourmile Timber Sale Final Environmental Impact Statement, United States Forest Service

Final Environmental Impact Statements (ID)

This Final Environmental Impact Statement documents the analysis of four alternatives, including a "no action" alternative, that were developed for the proposed Fourmile timber sale. The sale area is on the New Meadows Ranger District of the Payette National Forest. The alternatives respond differently to the major issues and resources that were identified for this project. The purpose of the project is to improve the silvicultural conditions of timber stands in the area. Harvest emphasis to accomplish this would include removing dead, dying, and high-risk trees to improve the long term health and vigor of timber stands.
