Objective and Method This study aims to investigate the relationship between the stress environment and the deformation and failure responses of surrounding rocks, thereby unraveling the inherent mechanisms underlying the deformation and failure. With cement, river sands, and gypsum as raw materials, rectangular roadway model specimens measuring 200 mm × 200 mm × 200 mm were prepared. Using a large-scale true triaxial seepage coupling testing machine, this study conducted triaxial loading tests on the rectangular roadway specimens under different lateral pressure coefficients. Objective Coal mining-induced disturbance leads to water redistribution in the vadose zones of mining areas. The sensitivity analysis of the factors influencing this redistribution holds critical significance for the reconstruction of eco-geological environments and the sustainable economic development in mining areas. Background The Dananhu mining area boasts abundant coal resources, serving as a significant coal-fired power generation base in Xinjiang, China. However, the high sodium (Na) content in coals within the mining area tends to cause fouling and slagging during coal combustion, severely affecting the clean and efficient utilization of coal resources in the area. Objective and Method Densely distributed sub-seismic faults have emerged as a major hidden disaster-causing geological factor, heavily influencing both the production efficiency and operational safety of coal mines. To achieve precise advance detection of underground sub-seismic faults in coal mines, this study designed a geological model. Aerosol optical depth (AOD) is essential for air quality monitoring and climate research. However, satellite-based retrievals suffer from cloud-related data gaps, and reanalysis products are limited by coarse spatial resolution and substantial production latency. This study develops a real-time, gap-free, high-resolution (1.5 km) AOD retrieval system for South Korea. The system integrates Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) forecasts, high-resolution meteorological fields, and ground-based air quality observations within a machine learning framework. Three models with varying training periods were systematically evaluated using cross-validation and independent validation with 2024 Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) data. Forest degradation is one of the leading sources of carbon emission globally. In Africa, particularly in Tanzania, forest degradation is driven by selective logging and forest fires. Estuaries, as ecologically sensitive brackish water mixing zones, face a critical bottleneck in refined management because traditional zonation based on socioeconomic attributes overlooks the ecological heterogeneity driven by salinity gradients and nutrient stoichiometry, leading to a disconnect between management measures and conservation needs. This study proposes a novel approach to coastal zonation using nitrogen and phosphorus nutrient criteria as an ecological benchmark. Overall ecological criteria are established for the Yellow River estuary (dissolved inorganic nitrogen: 0.258 mg/L; phosphate: 0.015 mg/L) and a differentiated management scheme is constructed based on a salinity gradient (26.5 PSU boundary). Nevertheless, its defensive and regulatory functions have been severely undermined by climate change and intensified human activities, which have caused landscape fragmentation and reduced connectivity. From the perspective of landscape pattern, this study defines the concept of coastal zone spatial resilience and develops a three-dimensional framework of “structure–process–function”, elucidating its attributes of stability, adaptability, recoverability, and dynamic evolution. This article investigates urban redevelopment, climate change and environmental contamination in Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood. The Gowanus Canal itself has been a designated EPA Federal Superfund Site since 2010, this designation does not apply to the land surrounding it where legacy industrial contamination still exists. This includes coal tar from former manufactured gas plants which poses a risk to groundwater and indoor air. Under a 2021 rezoning plan, large-scale residential redevelopment is rapidly moving forward, rising groundwater and increased flooding associated with climate change may exacerbate contaminants. The Bahia Grande is a 6,500—acre tidal basin located at the southernmost tip of Texas. Tidal flow into this coastal estuary was cut off in the 1930s, causing the basin to dry up for ~70 y. A pilot channel connecting the Bahia Grande to tidal waters was constructed in 2005, allowing flooding of the basin to occur. Throughout the period reported herein (2005–2019), the system remained characterized by persistent spatial and temporal episodes of extreme hypersalinity (>70)—a critical factor influencing estuarine community composition and driving key ecological processes.
