A total of 436 people registered. They came from 37 states, the District of Columbia, and 12 other countries: Canada, Egypt, England, France, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Switzerland, and Venezuela. The international representation contributed greatly to the success of the Conference by providing an exchange of information on an international level.
Rid-A-Bird Perches To Control Bird Damage, William B. Jackson
Rid-A-Bird Perches To Control Bird Damage, William B. Jackson
Vertebrate Pest Conference Proceedings: 8th (1978)
Rid-A-Bird wick perches, using 9.4% endrin or 11% fenthion, may be used on a variety of structures for control of house sparrows, starlings, and pigeons. Installations take advantage of a bird's propensity to perch briefly before feeding or entering roost or nesting structures. Applications may be made to a variety of structures but are restricted from food storage or preparation areas. Additional toxicity and use research is needed.
Rodenticidal Activity Of Bromadiolone—A New Anticoagulant, Adrian P. Meehan
Rodenticidal Activity Of Bromadiolone—A New Anticoagulant, Adrian P. Meehan
Vertebrate Pest Conference Proceedings: 8th (1978)
Bromadiolone, a new anticoagulant rodenticide, has been evaluated against laboratory rats and mice. Kill of both species was excellent, even when bromadiolone was offered for only one day in the presence of alternative food. Effectiveness against homozygous warfarin resistant rats was also demonstrated. Limited field trials on farms showed that after baiting for seven days with bromadiolone, warfarin resistant rat populations were substantially reduced although subsequent re-infestation occurred. Longer or continuous periods of baiting with bromadiolone would almost certainly prevent population increase, but government restrictions on the amount of bait approved for the trials did not allow this to be …
Influences On The Science Of Animal Damage Control, John R. Wood
Influences On The Science Of Animal Damage Control, John R. Wood
Vertebrate Pest Conference Proceedings: 8th (1978)
This paper is about the complexity of animal damage control science and its research, methods development, and control applications. It is not the point here to discourse on the individual methodology used in animal damage control research. The discussion is to point out that many researchers, wildlife managers, bureaucrats, or advocates fail to understand the situation in the science of animal damage control and its attendant problems that need resolution. Beef Cattle Feedlot Runoff And Control In Eastern Nebraska, L. P. Schram, Lynn R. Shuyler
Beef Cattle Feedlot Runoff And Control In Eastern Nebraska, L. P. Schram, Lynn R. Shuyler
United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications
This study was initiated to determine operational characteristics of runoff control facility components for beef cattle feedlots.
A runoff control facility was designed and constructed for a 3,000 head capacity feedlot in eastern Nebraska. Components of the runoff control facility included debris basins inside the pen and outside the pen, a holding pond, and a disposal system.
Results indicated that design volumes for the debris basins and holding ponds were effective in controlling runoff from the lots caused by snowmelt and rainfall for climatic conditions within eastern Nebraska. Characteristics of runoff transported solids from this large lot compared favorably with …
Suspended And Dissolved Solids Effects On Freshwater Biota: A Review, Darwin L. Sorensen, Margaret M. Mccarthy, E. Joe Middlebrooks, Donald B. Porcella
Suspended And Dissolved Solids Effects On Freshwater Biota: A Review, Darwin L. Sorensen, Margaret M. Mccarthy, E. Joe Middlebrooks, Donald B. Porcella
Reports
It is widely recognized that suspended and dissolved solids in lakes, rivers, streams, and reservoirs affect water quality. In this report the research needs appropriate to setting freshwater quality criteria or standards for suspeneded solids (not including bedload) and dissolveed solids are defined by determining the state of our knowledge from a critical review of the recent literature in this field. Common literature sources and computer searching routines were used as an initial source of information followed by detailed journal searches. Although some 185 journal articles, government reports, and other referecnes were cited herein (about 45 percent publicshed since 1974) …
The Ir-4 Project Can Help, Drew Baker
The Ir-4 Project Can Help, Drew Baker
Eastern Pine and Meadow Vole Symposia
You are probably wondering what IR-4 stands for. It means Interregional Project No.4 and it is funded by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and all of the state agricultural experiment stations. Its purpose is to obtain data to meet EPA requirements for registrations and tolerances on minor crops and specialty uses. The pesticide industry will sometimes conclude that the potential profit from some minor use is too small. When this is the case, IR-4 attempts to fill the data gaps. Since the states and USDA have only limited facilities for toxicity and environmental studies, IR-4 limits itself to those projects …
