Discussing the "Whole Language and More '93" meeting, this paper presents a series o2 helpful how-to's (and some valuable caveats) for those involved in conference planning. The first part of the paper presents a discussion of 10 steps the conference organizer would take again, including: promoting the conference; organizing various chairs; offering variable registration fees; thinking big and small when formulating a budget; spreading ownership as widely as possible; and offering a variety of conference sites. Examines the relationship between the comedy of Swift's A Tale of a Tub, the role of the speaker and satire on modern literature. The point made is that speaker reliability depends directly on the sources of "evidence" h/s presents. To clarify what this entails the author uses the linguistic notion of "evidentiality."

Teaching Dickinson As A Gen(I)Us: Emily Among The Women, Cheryl Walker

In this article, Walker argues that those who teach the poetry of Emily Dickinson should not only compare her to other recognized and lauded American poets, such as Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, T. S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Hart Crane, Wallace Stevens, and Marianne Moore. This method offers no cultural context to provide ligature. It views high art as to be only about language and, on the score of tropological discourse, any two poets could be connected, even across vast expanses of time and distance.
