The Relation Between The Poetic Concept And Autobiographical Memory In The Works Of Thomas Wolfe, Douglas Carell Taylor
The Relation Between The Poetic Concept And Autobiographical Memory In The Works Of Thomas Wolfe, Douglas Carell Taylor
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Thomas Wolfe's literary output includes four long novels and a vast number of short stories and poems. In addition to this he left a great deal of manuscript which is still in the process of being examined and assorted. His four long novels have drawn the greatest attention, for it is in these that he has done his finest and most provocative work. In each one Wolfe is the central figure, and through his eyes we are allowed to see the world as he saw it. It is because of this that the charges of egotism, paranoia tendencies, genius, immaturity, …
Kentucky Autobiography And Kentucky Culture., William F. Keirce
Kentucky Autobiography And Kentucky Culture., William F. Keirce
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis is to trace the historical development of autobiographical writing in Kentucky; to analyze the literary and philosophical characteristics of these works and, by this means, to divide these writings into several categories; and, finally, to reveal by an interpretation of these autobiographies, certain cultural aspects of Kentucky life and society. As thus stated, the intentions of this study are several; but, actually, all these aims are inseparably related part. of a single general problem which is to investigate Kentucky autobiographical writing as a whole in order to better understand the individual works in that literature.

Thomas Hood : Poet, Social Thinker, Comedian, Ernest W. Mooney Jr
Thomas Hood : Poet, Social Thinker, Comedian, Ernest W. Mooney Jr
Master's Theses
Although Thomas Hood lived an uneventful and somewhat undramatic life, it was not entirely fruitless. His unparalleled misfortune in health and economy was scarcely offset by a felicitous family life; but his poetry--some inane, some mediocre, some excellent--balanced an otherwise pathetic existence. There has been no conscious attempt in this paper to present Thomas as an undiscovered genius. His works and his life have been evaluated for their peculiar merit alone, but a study of those has revealed points hitherto vague and misunderstood as well as forgotten.
As a writer of unmitigated fun, Thomas Hood is hardly excelled. Where he …
Tragic Implications Of Man's Frustration By Society In Three Of Dreiser's Novels., Susan Mae Robinson
Tragic Implications Of Man's Frustration By Society In Three Of Dreiser's Novels., Susan Mae Robinson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this paper is to examine three of Dreiser's major novels in order (1) to show that his philosophy of life is exemplified in his fiction and (2) to determine whether or not his ideas undergo any change. The three novels chosen for this study are The "Genius", An American Tragedy, and The Bulwark, because they cover a span of American life, as Dreiser saw it, from the time of his greatest productivity until his death--a period of thirty years. The first part of the thesis will contain: (1) a general background of the period of which Dreiser …
