A Multivariable Sampled-Data Model Of An Automobile Driver, Jose A. Bermudez Jan 1973

A Multivariable Sampled-Data Model Of An Automobile Driver, Jose A. Bermudez

Masters Theses

"In this thesis, a multivariable system model of driver performance in the basic driving tasks is presented. The driver model described acts as a serial-process, priority-accessed, time-sharing computer. This model processes the input or output task which currently possesses the highest priority. Input tasks are represented by continuous signals sampled intermittently according to priority laws. Output tasks are modeled as simple analog processes operating on the last few intermittently generated output controls. An individual priority rule is constructed for each input and output task.

The performance of the driver in the lateral control task involves a feedforward pattern which is …

Arctic Ecology: A Decade Of Experience, John F. Schindler

UMR Journal -- V. H. McNutt Colloquium Series

A quick glance at the title of this presentation and the reader braces himself for another antipollution or “save-the-sod” type of discourse that has become so popular these days. I do not wish to detract from the importance or the need for such efforts but I would like to address myself to the the broader meaning of the term.

Ecology--the word comes from the Greek root “oikos” which means house or household. What I’d like to do is to tell you about this “house” I’ve been living in for the past 10 years.

Linear Regression Models Of Sound Velocity In The North Atlantic Ocean Below A Critical Depth, Richard Roland Kunkel Jan 1970

Linear Regression Models Of Sound Velocity In The North Atlantic Ocean Below A Critical Depth, Richard Roland Kunkel

Doctoral Dissertations

"Sound velocity models currently in use by the U. S. Navy require difficult data sampling at great expense. This study is to investigate the feasibility of a sound velocity model dependent only upon position that would be valid for a selected, reasonably large, near homogeneous area of the ocean. The most important position parameters are latitude, longitude, and depth. To accomplish this objective a critical depth of 2500 meters was established for an 8° by 20° rectangle of the Sargasso Sea which lies within the North Atlantic Ocean. The critical depth is defined as the depth at which the characteristics …

Theses and Dissertations

With the rebirth of special warfare in the last few years, the role of the individual soldier and of squad-sized units has been re-emphasized. Most guerilla-type fighting has been, is presently, and will most likely continue occurring in remote areas of the world. The terrain encountered may be tropical grasslands and canopy areas, or rugged mountains, inland waterways, swamps, mud flats and rice paddies. Other adverse terrain conditions are frequently encountered and must be crossed to accomplish the mission of the unit.

An Experimental Investigation Of The Continuous Penetration Of A Blunt Body Into A Simulated Cohesionless Soil., John Lewis Colp May 1966

An Experimental Investigation Of The Continuous Penetration Of A Blunt Body Into A Simulated Cohesionless Soil., John Lewis Colp

Civil Engineering ETDs

The penetration of one object into a larger mass may well have been one of the earliest interests of man. History shows that early man was well aware of the occurrence of the penetration event by his use of spears and other projectiles in his search for food. Interest in penetration events has been continuous through man's development. Today this interest has even outstripped man's natural environment to include the serious study of penetration into extra-terrestrial bodies such as the lunar surface.

The Problem:

The penetration of many materials is currently being studied by many investigators. Some of the materials …

In 1958, geographic intelligence in the US Armed Forces was decentralized. US Army Corps of Engineers was primarily responsible for creation of military intelligence concerning the surface of the earth excluding the oceans and seas for the armed forces of the United States. The Beach Erosion Board, originally an agency performing civil functions, had been preparing coast and beach intelligence since early in World War II. Engineer intelligence guides were issued to provide guidance concerning collection, processing, production, and dissemination of geographic intelligence to elements of the Corps of Engineers.

This Engineer Intelligence Guide contains a definition of Coast and …
