Aluminum As A Commercial Conductor Of Electric Energy, George Edwin Lyman, Edward J. Morris Jan 1902

Aluminum As A Commercial Conductor Of Electric Energy, George Edwin Lyman, Edward J. Morris

Bachelors Theses

"In considering the adaptability of any metal to serve as a distributing agent of electrical energy, the investigation must shape itself along three lines, viz, - the electrical, the physical and the chemical properties which the metal may possess. Evidently a deficiency in any of these properties, if serious, will debar it from successfully coping in the market with its competitors. A metal may have excellent conductivity and its behavior electrically may be thoroughly satisfactory, but if it lacks strength, physically, or ability to resist the destructive forces of the atmosphere, chemically, it is obviously inadaquate sic to serve as …

Electrolysis Mitigation Of The Underground Telephone Cable Plant Of The City Of Green Bay, Wisconsin, William J. O'Connor Jan 1900

Electrolysis Mitigation Of The Underground Telephone Cable Plant Of The City Of Green Bay, Wisconsin, William J. O'Connor

Bachelors’ Theses

Prior to the fall of 1915, the Wisconsin public Service Company of Green Bay operated an electric street railway with an uninsulated negative rail return in the city of Green Bay, the track network with its relation to the underground cable sheaths of the Wisconsin Telephone Company as shown on the General Condition Map.

Notes Relative To The Ores Occurring At Mercur, Utah Together With A General Description Of The Metallurgical Practices Applied To Them At Delamar's Mercur Mines, Daniel Cowan Jackling Jan 1900

Notes Relative To The Ores Occurring At Mercur, Utah Together With A General Description Of The Metallurgical Practices Applied To Them At Delamar's Mercur Mines, Daniel Cowan Jackling

Professional Degree Theses

"The most notable increase in the gold production of Utah is due to the extensive operations of DeLaMar's Mercur mines in the Mercur district, which are at the present time producing more than two-thirds of the total tonnage of the entire camp. The nucleus of this great property consist of 143 acres, called the Golden Gate Group, by which name the property is still locally known, was purchased by Captain J. R. DeLaMar in 1895"--page 1.

The Determination Of The Fusing Point Of A Few Igneous And Metamorphic Rocks, Fred H. Perkins Jan 1900

The Determination Of The Fusing Point Of A Few Igneous And Metamorphic Rocks, Fred H. Perkins

Bachelors Theses

"There are two methods of arriving at the refractoriness of a rock. One is the physical, the other is the chemical. The physical methods attempt to determine it directly by subjecting it to heat, and the temperature obtained is registered by use of numerous methods, a type of each kind I will describe in this paper. The chemical methods attempt to arrive at the result by calculations based upon a chemical analysis, though one or more physical determinations have to be made as a basis for these calculations. As the former method is direct, my operations are based upon this …

Assay Of Copper Matte For Gold And Silver, Walter E. Soest Jan 1899

Assay Of Copper Matte For Gold And Silver, Walter E. Soest

Bachelors Theses

"Ores containing copper, and especially copper matte, have always been very annoying in assaying for the precious metals. In assaying copper matte, and ores containing much copper, by the usual method of scorification, the losses of silver an gold are considerable, owing to the fact that in order to obtain lead buttons, which are soft and free from copper, repeated scorifications are necessary, and moreover it is impossible to obtain lead buttons which are entirely free from copper"--page 1.

The Strength Of Cement Under Different Conditions, Francis Joseph Tayman Jan 1899

The Strength Of Cement Under Different Conditions, Francis Joseph Tayman

Bachelors Theses

"Derivation of some Empirical Formulae, showing relation between breaking strength, and various functions which enter into Cement testing. We find a great deal of experimental work done in Cement testing, also some curves plotted, but there are but few equations fitted to these curves, this, then, is the object of the present work. In this work a great many interesting points have been made manifest, most of them are of no practical value but merely of interest in themselves. The work has been on several of the most important ones, to be given subsequently. On these and a few others …

Cement Testing, Arthur D. Terrell Jan 1899

Cement Testing, Arthur D. Terrell

Bachelors Theses

"For a Thesis in 1898 I did some work on cement testing with very satisfactory results, but I did but little more than get a few ideas as to how to conduct the experiments to best advantage. For the present year I have taken up the work for further investigation"--page 1.

Derivation Of Some Empirical Formulae, Showing Relation Between Breaking Strength And Various Functions Which Enter Into Cement Testing, Arthur D. Terrell Jan 1898

Derivation Of Some Empirical Formulae, Showing Relation Between Breaking Strength And Various Functions Which Enter Into Cement Testing, Arthur D. Terrell

Bachelors Theses

"Although we find a great many results of experimental work in cement testing, and some curves plotted, there seems to have been very little attempt made toward fitting equations to these curves. This then leaves an opening for original investigation. During my experiments quite a variety of interesting points have been made manifest. Most of them are of no practical benefit, but merely of interest in themselves. My work has been on a few of the most important ones, which will be given subsequently"--page 1.

Producer Gas, Edward P. Dwyer Jan 1895

Producer Gas, Edward P. Dwyer

Bachelors Theses

"Producer gas, so named owing to being produced in special forms of apparatus known as Producers. The fuel is decomposed into combustible gases, whereby most of the C is burnt to CO, whilst the H either remains free, or is converted into carburretted Hydrogen. Directly above the grate carbonic anhydride is formed but thus is rapidly converted into carbonic oxide; reaction as follows: CO₂ + C = 2CO.

Amongst these heavy carburetted hydrogen (C₂H₄) is that which principally increases the value of the gas as fuel and the drier the fuel used the more of the gas is produced. A …

Aluminum, Edward Mackey Johnson Jan 1892

Aluminum, Edward Mackey Johnson

Bachelors Theses

"Ores: Cost of Production: Alloys. It is not the purpose of this thesis to discuss all the ores in which Al is found, but to describe rather fully the ores from which Al is obtained: such as Bauxite and cryolite. In regard to the alloys only the principal ones will be considered and described, especially the Al-bronze which is a very important alloy of copper and Al"--page 1.

Smelting Processes For Silver Extraction, John R. D. Owen Jan 1885

Smelting Processes For Silver Extraction, John R. D. Owen

Professional Degree Theses

"The base metals used for the extraction of silver from its ores by smelting are lead and copper, and the different methods employed may be accordingly classified under the general headings of "extraction by means of lead" and "extraction by means of copper"--page 3.

Imaginary Functions, Floyd Davis Dec 1881

Imaginary Functions, Floyd Davis

Bachelors Theses

"The imaginary expression which occurs in common Algebra, and in all the higher departments of mathematical science, has been one of the most perplexing problems which the human mind has encountered in any age. It was studied by the early mathematicians and became a field of speculation, but developed no marked results, for it was generally considered algebraically and in the interpretation is a symbol of an impossible operation. But many of the problems arising from algebraic-geometrical analysis involving imaginaries was of such importance to mathematical and physical science that great attempts were made to establish their solution. It was …
