Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

This study investigates the effects of rotational speed $(\Omega)$, Richardson number $\left(Ri\right)$, and Lewis number $\left(Le\right)$ on heat and mass transfer (HMT) around two co-rotating cylinders symmetrically situated in a trapezoidal enclosure. In the double-diffusive mechanism, the bottom wall of the trapezium is at a high temperature $\left(T_h\right)$ and concentration $\left(C_h\right)$, while the top wall is at a low temperature $\left(T_c\right)$ and concentration $\left(C_c\right)$. The side walls are perfectly insulated with zero mass flux, while the buoyancy ratio $\left(Br\right)$ is fixed at 1.0.  Two thermal-mass boundary scenarios are considered. Scenario 1: Cylinders are thermally insulated with zero mass flux, and …

Tanzania Journal of Science

The removal of synthetic dyes from wastewater remains an urgent environmental concern due to their persistence and toxicity. This study evaluates cellulose from Hura crepitans (HC) and its acid-modified form (AHC) for the adsorption of phenol red (PR) dye from aqueous solutions. The adsorbents were characterized using FTIR to identify functional groups responsible for dye binding, XRD to determine the crystalline structure, SEM to examine surface morphology, and BET/BJH analyses to measure surface area and pore distribution. Acid modification enhanced surface roughness, porosity, and the abundance of active functional sites, leading to improved adsorption efficiency. Optimal conditions were pH 9.0 …

Neutrosophic Indeterminacy-Transport Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks For Structured Uncertainty, Hafiz Muhammd Bilal, Kiran Naz, Anjum Ijaz

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs) replace fixed node activations with learnable univariate edge functions, but standard KAN inference treats two equal-valued features identically even when one is accompanied by an explicit quality warning. NIT-KAN introduces a neutrosophic indeterminacy-transport mechanism for this setting. Each node carries an indeterminacy state in [0, 1]; a monotone gate g(I)=(1-I)α attenuates uncertain evidence on the predictive path, while a sensitivity-weighted transport rule carries indeterminacy through the underlying KAN computation. A terminal audit maps signed evidence to truth-support, falsity-support, and conflict-augmented indeterminacy without interpreting these quantities as class probabilities. We …

Neutrokoopman: Channel-Preserving Koopman Spectral Analysis Of Nonlinear Dynamics With Truth, Indeterminacy, And Falsity Evidence, Ahmed Samy, Mohamed M. Abdelhafeez, K Venkatachalam, Mohamed Abouhawwash Sep 2026

Neutrokoopman: Channel-Preserving Koopman Spectral Analysis Of Nonlinear Dynamics With Truth, Indeterminacy, And Falsity Evidence, Ahmed Samy, Mohamed M. Abdelhafeez, K Venkatachalam, Mohamed Abouhawwash

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Modern dynamical systems increasingly operate with evidence that is not merely noisy but incomplete, contradictory, or only partially trustworthy. Conventional Koopman methods represent nonlinear dynamics through linear evolution of observables, while robust and adaptive variants address parameter and model uncertainty. They do not, however, preserve the semantic distinction between support, indeterminacy, and counter-support when those conditions are compressed into a single uncertainty variable. This paper develops NeutroKoopman, a channel-preserving Koopman framework in which the physical state is augmented by a single-valued neutrosophic evidence state νt = ( Tt,It,Ft ). Deterministic and Markovian formulations are …

Dft Study Of Vanadyl Acetylacetonate Complexes With Benzimidazole Derivatives And 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole, Xolida Jabborova, Shahlo Sh. Daminova

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The geometric and electronic structures of the mixed-ligand complexes [VO(AcAc)2MBT], [VO(AcAc)2AFBI] and [VO(AcAc)2FBI] (MBT is 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, AFBI is 2-aminophenyl-1H-benzimidazole, FBI is 2-phenylmethyl-1H-benzimidazole) were studied by density functional theory ((U)B3LYP/6-311G(d,p)/LanL2DZ, Gaussian 09W). The MBT molecule was found to be planar, whereas in AFBI and FBI the NH group is coplanar with the imidazole ring. Analysis of effective atomic charges and molecular electrostatic potential maps shows that the pyridine-type nitrogen atoms of the imidazole and thiazole rings (q = −0.355 to −0.301 e) are the most probable coordination sites for the vanadyl ion. The HOMO–LUMO energy …

Simulation Of Adsorption Of Aqueous Solution Of Methylene Blue On A Composite Of Phthalocyanine And Zinc Oxide, Albert R. Koldarov, Mastura Kh. Aripova, Odilzhon E. Abdurakhmonov, Zuhra Ch. Kadirova

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The aim of this work is to conduct a computer simulation of methylene blue adsorption from an aqueous solution onto a composite photocatalyst based on zinc oxide and zinc phthalocyanine. To understand the mechanisms of intermolecular interaction between the sorbates and the dominant crystal planes of the composite components, adsorption simulation was performed using the BIOVIA Adsorption Locator module. It is shown that the formation of the ZnO/ZnPc heterojunction promotes the synergistic stabilization of adsorbed molecules. The presence of the inorganic ZnO phase mitigates the electrostatic repulsion of chloride anions, ensuring the overall charge balance of the system, while the …

Catalytic Effect Of Metal Ions On The Oxidation Of Thiocyanate Ions With Hydrogen Peroxide, Sarvar B. Rajabov, Salmon M. Mukhammadiev, Berdakh T. Daniyarov, Haci Deveci, Shahlo Sh. Daminova

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Thiocyanate (SCN⁻) ions, formed during the cyanidation of gold ores, pose a significant environmental problem when present in mine processing wastewater. In this study, the oxidation of potassium thiocyanate model solutions (10–1000 mg/L) with hydrogen peroxide, in the presence and absence of Cu2+ and Fe2+ ions, was investigated at room temperature. Residual SCN⁻ concentrations were determined by bromatometric titration and UV-spectroscopy. Without a catalyst, H2O2 showed the weakest effect at all concentrations, leaving 6–17% residual SCN⁻ even at the highest applied dose. The addition of Cu2+ and Fe2+ ions markedly accelerated oxidation via …

Maleic anhydride was used as a compatibilizer to ensure interfacial adhesion between the polymer matrix in the hydrophilic filler and the layered aluminosilicates, and to promote the uniform distribution of mineral particles. The experimental results showed that hybrid modification makes it possible to elevate the strength properties of all types of recycled polymers to the level of their virgin (pure) …

Physical-Chemical Properties Of Nmgca-Fertilizers Obtained On The Basis Of Ammonium Nitrate And Vermiculite, Madiyar J. Jabbarbergenov Sep 2026

Physical-Chemical Properties Of Nmgca-Fertilizers Obtained On The Basis Of Ammonium Nitrate And Vermiculite, Madiyar J. Jabbarbergenov

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Although ammonium nitrate (AN) ranks second after urea among nitrogen fertilizers in terms of production and application volume, it remains the leading agent regarding plant nutrient uptake efficiency. This is primarily because nearly the entire total nitrogen content is assimilated in both ammonium (NH4+) and nitrate (NO3-) forms. However, the widespread agricultural utilization of AN is significantly constrained by several disadvantageous factors, including its physiological acidity, high hygroscopicity, caking tendency, low granule strength, thermal instability, and high explosive hazards. In this study, to enhance the commercial and physical-chemical properties of AN, a vermiculite mineral modifier was incorporated. The chemical composition …

Context Matters: Evaluating Llm-Generated Knowledge Graph Schemas, Ritvik Garimella, Riju Marwah, Atishay Jain, Khusham Bansal, Amit Sheth

Publications

Knowledge graph (KG) schema engineering is labor-intensive and resists automation at scale. We investigate whether LLMs can generate domain-specific KG schemas of sufficient quality for downstream symbolic reasoning. We propose a tiered contextual framework that varies domain context richness across four levels: zero context, domain scope, task requirements, and data distribution. Generated schemas are evaluated intrinsically on BioRED (600 PubMed abstracts, multi-type entities and relations), where automated tiered schemas match an established KG construction baseline at 79.9% EC, with edge conformance rising from 47.5% at L1 to a stable 78–80% from L2 onward. Extrinsic evaluation on a 50-record MedHop controlled …

Increasing The Density Value Of Composite Propellant Ap/Htpb/Al For Rocket Performance Using The Sphere Packing Model, Muhammad Iqbal Alfikri, Bayu Prianto, Ariadne Lakshmidevi Juwono Sep 2026

Increasing The Density Value Of Composite Propellant Ap/Htpb/Al For Rocket Performance Using The Sphere Packing Model, Muhammad Iqbal Alfikri, Bayu Prianto, Ariadne Lakshmidevi Juwono

Makara Journal of Science

This research employs the sphere packing volume (SPV) model to optimize the density of composite propellants thereby enhancing rocket performance. We systematically varied the diameters of spherical ammonium perchlorate (AP) particles (50 and 400 µm) and aluminum powder (Al) particles (10 and 30 µm). These particles were incorporated at an ideal AP:Al ratio of 4:1 into a matrix of hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene and toluene diisocyanate. By adjusting the AP ratio for each Al particle size and considering theoretical and tap densities, we precisely calculated the SPV value for each composition. The composition with the highest SPV value yielded remarkable results. This …

Dense Platinum Nanoparticles Confined In Mn-N-C Nanocages For Robust Heavy-Duty Pemfcs, Lei Zhao, Zhen-Min Cao, Jia-Yu Zuo, Ming-Liang Yang, Hong-Yan Qiao, Jun-Song Chen, Rui Wu

Journal of Electrochemistry

High-loading Pt cathodes are essential for heavy-duty proton exchange membrane fuel cells but suffer from a critical tradeoff between ionomer sulfonate poisoning and nanoparticle instability. Herein, we report a spatial confinement strategy to encapsulate dense Pt nanoparticles (~51.8 wt%) within Mn/N-co-doped mesoporous carbon nanocages (denoted as Pt-MnNC). This architecture excludes bulky ionomers to create an ionomer-shielded environment against sulfonate poisoning, while Mn-Nx-mediated strong metal-support interactions anchor the Pt nanoparticles to prevent agglomeration and further boost durability. In the 5 × 5 cm2 membrane electrode assembly tests, the Pt-MnNC catalyst delivers an exceptional power density of 1.26 W·cm …

Efficient Acidic H2O2 Electrosynthesis Over Co Atoms Anchored On Nitrogen-Doped Hierarchical Porous Carbon, Xiao Huang, Zi-Hao Zhan, Hao-Xu Niu, Guan-Yu Luo, Jin-Tao Huang, Bo-Xuan Jin, De-Li Wang Sep 2026

Efficient Acidic H2O2 Electrosynthesis Over Co Atoms Anchored On Nitrogen-Doped Hierarchical Porous Carbon, Xiao Huang, Zi-Hao Zhan, Hao-Xu Niu, Guan-Yu Luo, Jin-Tao Huang, Bo-Xuan Jin, De-Li Wang

Journal of Electrochemistry

The two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e− ORR) presents a promising route for the on-site production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), offering a green alternative to energy-consuming anthraquinone process. However, the high selectivity toward the competing 4e− ORR over the desired 2e− pathway leads to low Faradaic efficiency for H2O2, posing a critical challenge in catalyst design. In this work, a nitrogen-doped hollow hierarchical porous carbon with anchored Co atoms (CoN/HPC) was constructed for high-performance H2O2 production. The as-prepared Co-N/HPC catalyst showed excellent 2e− ORR performance, achieving …

Engineering Small-Sized Cations With Strong Solvation For High-Voltage Supercapacitors, Tong Huo, Pan Liu, Hao Chen, Peng Zhang, Zhen-Lei Chen, Guo-Fu Sun, Zhi-Qiang Shi, Jing Wang

Journal of Electrochemistry

Supercapacitors (SCs) have attracted much attention in the field of energy storage due to their high power density and long cycle life. However, their relatively low energy density limits their application in a wider range of fields. Methods to increase energy density include enhancing specific capacitance and extending operating voltage window. Herein, we report a novel electrolyte salt, tetramethylammonium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (TMA-FSI), the resulting electrolyte formed with propylene carbonate (PC), designated as TMF, exhibited a wide electrochemical stability window (ESW) of 5.09 V. On the one hand, we found that the small size of TMA+ enables it to enter the …

Experimental Investigation Of Internal Flow Structures And Permeate Flux Behaviour In Direct Contact Membrane Distillation, Ali Kandi, Mehdi Khiadani, Yujie Yuan, Abdellah Shafieian

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Understanding internal hydrodynamics of Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD) is crucial for desalination performance and mitigating temperature polarization. Despite its importance, quantitative experimental characterization of hydrodynamics governing boundary-layer development and transport enhancement within DCMD channels remains limited. This study presents the first spatially resolved Particle Image Velocimetry PIV measurement of velocity fields inside a smooth, actively operating flat-sheet DCMD channel, linking observed hydrodynamic structures to permeate flux. Two-dimensional velocity fields were captured at different streamwise positions for feed flow rates ranging from 0.7 to 4 L·min−1, enabling analysis of flow evolution and turbulence characteristics relevant to mass transfer. The results …

Geotechnical Enhancement Of Noncohesive Coal Mine Overburden Using Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation And Fly Ash Stabilization For Sustainable Pavement Applications, Atul Gautam, Laxmikant Yadu

Journal of Sustainable Mining

The majority of the waste generated from opencast mining, termed as overburden (OB), is dumped adjacent to the mine boundary and poses long-term stability issues. Various studies have been carried out to assess the risk of dump slope failure, and treatment strategies have been accordingly recommended to strengthen this OB dump. However, scant works are reported to sustainably utilize this OB for construction works. This study aims to quantify the performance of stabilized noncohesive coal mine OB collected from Gondegaon opencast mine (OCM) in India. Stabilization was achieved using two techniques, namely microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) through Sporosarcina pasteurii …

Superiorgat: Graph Attention Networks For Sparse Lidar Point Cloud Reconstruction In Autonomous Systems, Khalfalla Awedat, Mohamed Abidalrekab, Gurcan Comert, Mustafa Ayad, Negash Begashaw

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

LiDAR-based perception in autonomous systems is fundamentally limited by sparse vertical sampling and further degraded by structured beam dropout caused by occlusions, sensor faults, or reduced-cost LiDAR hardware. These degradations disrupt vertical geometric continuity and negatively affect downstream perception tasks such as object detection, localization, and scene understanding. Existing reconstruction approaches often struggle to balance reconstruction accuracy with the computational efficiency required for real-time autonomous operation. This paper presents SuperiorGAT, a graph attention–based framework for reconstructing missing elevation information in sparse LiDAR point clouds under structured beam loss. The proposed method models LiDAR scans as beam-aware graphs and enhances standard …

Scheduling The Charging Of Battery-Electric Vehicles Under Heterogeneous Scheduling Constraints, Justin Whitaker, Greg Droge, Mario Harper Sep 2026

Scheduling The Charging Of Battery-Electric Vehicles Under Heterogeneous Scheduling Constraints, Justin Whitaker, Greg Droge, Mario Harper

Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Research

Adopting battery electric vehicles (EVs) for vehicle fleets requires scheduling charging alongside day-to-day operations. This problem is complicated by complex utility cost structures, limited battery capacity, and competition for shared charging resources. Existing methods that simultaneously schedule routes and charging neither address the full cost structure nor employ high-fidelity charging models, and no prior work analyzes fleets containing vehicles with heterogeneous routing constraints. This work addresses these gaps by combining a state-of-the-art flexible-schedule formulation with time-of-use (TOU) demand costs and a non-linear, variable-rate charging model as drawn from additional state-of-the-art works. The proposed method is validated against two state-of-the-art methods, …
