The Application Of The Relaxation Method To The Solution Of Problems Involving The Flow Of Fluids Through Porous Media, Alexander Antoine Zwierzchowski
The Application Of The Relaxation Method To The Solution Of Problems Involving The Flow Of Fluids Through Porous Media, Alexander Antoine Zwierzchowski
Masters Theses
"The purpose of this investigation is to determine the feasibility of applying the relaxation method of mathematical analysis to the solution of problems in rheology. The relaxation method was first introduced by R. V. Southwell who applied it to the problem of electrical conductivity. It was later used by M. W. Emmons to solve two-dimensional heat conduction problems. The steady-state flow of fluids through porous media can be difficult or impossible by the usual analytical methods even with rather simple boundary conditions. The relaxation method promises to provide an easier method of solution and to provide a means of solving …
The Effect Of The Convection Coefficient On The Temperature Amplitude In Periodic Heat Flow, Gordon L. Scofield
The Effect Of The Convection Coefficient On The Temperature Amplitude In Periodic Heat Flow, Gordon L. Scofield
Masters Theses
"The problem to be investigated in this thesis is that of periodic heat flow in a semi-infinite solid. Periodic flow means that heat flow is a continuous function of time and repeats itself at regular intervals. A semi-infinite solid is one which is bounded by one and only one plane. This subject has received considerable attention in the field of soil temperatures, both at the surface of the earth and at various depths. The surface of the earth is subjected to temperature changes which are nearly periodic. These temperature changes take place both daily and annually. A knowledge of these …
Analysis Of Cascade Of Four-Terminal Networks, Ernest Randolph Roehl
Analysis Of Cascade Of Four-Terminal Networks, Ernest Randolph Roehl
Masters Theses
"The object of this thesis is to find analytic expressions for the voltage and current variations along a structure composed of a cascade of identical dissymmetrical four-terminal networks driven harmonically at the sending end and working into an impedance at the receiving end and an impedance that can be placed at any of the junctions along the cascade. The method of analysis that is applied is analogous to that used in solving the long-line problem. A transmission system usually consists of the line or cable itself plus numerous other links whose purpose it is to correct defects in the line …
Aerodynamic Research For An Improved Rotor Control System On Helicopters, Delmar Wallace Breuer
Aerodynamic Research For An Improved Rotor Control System On Helicopters, Delmar Wallace Breuer
Masters Theses
"Since the author has always been interested in Aeronautical Engineering, and in particular, rotary-winged-aircraft, the problem of research for aerodynamic improvement of rotary-wing control systems was chosen. This problem was suggested by the Army Aircorps Officials of Wright-Patterson Field of Dayton, Ohio as being a valuable and practical problem for the government. It is also valuable and practical for the author since it follows his general course of undergraduate study and since it fits closely into the field for which he is preparing himself...The requirement with which the author is most concerned is the design system for the producing of …
Analytical Investigation Of Thin And Moderately Thick-Walled Tubing Under Peripheral And Biaxial Loading, Frank Joseph Cizek
Analytical Investigation Of Thin And Moderately Thick-Walled Tubing Under Peripheral And Biaxial Loading, Frank Joseph Cizek
Masters Theses
"The problem then, resolves itself into a study of the behavior of thin-walled and moderately thick-walled cylinders under the effects of an external fluid pressure acting alone, or the effects of an external fluid pressure acting simultaneously with an axial loading. In this thesis a theoretical or analytical approach will be used. Some application and reference will be made to oil-well casings in particular, but the solutions will not be restricted to oil-well casing alone. it must be recognized that the tubing problem involves the problem of unstability before the proportional limit of the metal is exceeded and a similar …
Further Studies - Heat Transfer Coefficients For Liquids In Forced Convection Normal To Banks Of Staggered Tubes, Terrell C. Claunch
Further Studies - Heat Transfer Coefficients For Liquids In Forced Convection Normal To Banks Of Staggered Tubes, Terrell C. Claunch
Masters Theses
"The problem for these experiments may be divided into two sections. The first section of the problem consists of setting up procedure for duplicating data. The second section is that of studying and explaining characteristics of the resulting curves. Correlation of the data obtained will be necessary in order to obtain the curves. In order that the first section of the problem could be solved it was necessary to establish a standard of cleanliness for the apparatus used. Establishment of procedures for the operations and cleaning of the apparatus was necessary. Before Kenneth E. Rudert began his design and construction …
The Application Of The Relaxation Method To The Solution Of Problems Involving The Flow Of Gases Through Porous Media, Ralph Davis
The Application Of The Relaxation Method To The Solution Of Problems Involving The Flow Of Gases Through Porous Media, Ralph Davis
Masters Theses
"The purpose of this investigation is to determine the feasibility of applying the relaxation method of mathematical analysis to the solution of problems involving the flow of gases through porous media. The relaxation method was first applied to two-dimensional problems by Christopherson and Southwell, who applied it to problems in stress analysis. It was later applied to steady-state heat conduction problems by H. W. Emmons and to steady-state flow of incompressible liquids by A. A. Zwierschowski. The solutions of problems involving the flow of gases through porous media is difficult for all but the simplest boundary conditions, and impractical for …
An Economic Comparison Of Short Span Bridges, Glenn B. Armstrong
An Economic Comparison Of Short Span Bridges, Glenn B. Armstrong
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Present day culture is based upon physical goods and the benefits derived from them. stemming from this physical culture is the desire of possession. Since it is impossible for one person to posses everything, the desire is translated into potential possession. That is, the acquisition of a type of goods that can be exchanged for any other goods at the desire of the individual. This potential goods in money. Thus it becomes the chief sin of every person to acquire money. In order to accumulato a supply of money, an individual must no combine the three factors of production, land, …
A Study Of Cathode Drift Compensation In D-C Amplifiers, Joseph W. Rittenhouse
A Study Of Cathode Drift Compensation In D-C Amplifiers, Joseph W. Rittenhouse
Masters Theses
"The expression, cathode drift, has to do with the random variations in vacuum tube plate current which are attributable to similar variations in emission velocities of electrons leaving hot cathodes. The fact that these random current changes appear to result from spurious drifts in cathode potential, since all other electrode potentials are unrelated to them, give rise to the expression, cathode drift...The problem with which this paper is concerned is a study of some of the possibilities of compensating for cathode drift effects in a single amplifier stage. Specifically, this paper will: (A) present a detailed mathematical and graphical analysis …
A Graphic Method For Determining Pressure Losses Due To Air Friction In Mine Airways, Robert F. Bruzewski
A Graphic Method For Determining Pressure Losses Due To Air Friction In Mine Airways, Robert F. Bruzewski
Masters Theses
"One of the most important factors that influence the selection of a fan or blower for circulating a desired quantity of air through mine workings is the total pressure that is required to overcome the resistance of the airways. Ordinarily, the major portion of this resistance is that caused by friction of the moving air on the surface of the airways. The pressure that is required to overcome this frictional resistance is calculated by means of the friction formula"--Introduction, page 1.
A Correlation Of Formulas For The Flow Of Fluids In Pipes, John Gorman Duba
A Correlation Of Formulas For The Flow Of Fluids In Pipes, John Gorman Duba
Masters Theses
"At present there exist two quite distinct fields in fluid flow in pipes, the one in water supply and the other in the petroleum industry. It is the purpose of this paper to discuss the various pipeline flow formulas as used in both fields and to correlate the exponential type formula which is much used in practice with the Nikuradse curves obtained in the laboratory"--A Brief Historical Review, page 5.
The Theory Of Limit Design As Applied To The Design Of A Continuous Beam Over Three Supports, Robert F. Davidson
The Theory Of Limit Design As Applied To The Design Of A Continuous Beam Over Three Supports, Robert F. Davidson
Masters Theses
"The theory of Limit Design is the application of the theory of Plasticity to the estimation of the actual carrying capacity of a structure. In this theory, as it is applied to statistically indeterminate structures, the areas of most unfavorable stress are allowed to be stressed beyond the yield point and into the plastic range of stress. It was formerly held that, by assuming elastic behavior, all questions of strength of materials that concern the Structural Engineer were capable of solution. However, it is now becoming recognized, from actual measurements of deformations of structures and from tests carried to near …

Tests On Cold Formed Steel Studs For The American Iron And Steel Institute, American Iron And Steel Institute
CCFSS Library (1939 - present)
1. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT. In connection with a prospective revised Second Edition of the Specifications the question has been raised as to the reliability of Section 3.7, Combined Axial and Bending Stress. This stipulation at the time wa.s adopted from the AISC Specifications without detailed investigation. It appeared pertinent, therefore, to subject this requirement to a detailed analysis for purposes of verification and possible improvement. The present Report gives an abbreviated account of this analysis and presents numerical and graphical data sufficient to judge the reliability of Section 3.7.
