It was the purpose of this study (1) to learn what jobs the largest school districts in Washington were doing on EDP; (2) to learn what equipment was being used in doing those jobs; (3) to learn what EDP was costing the districts who were using it; and (4) to answer other questions which might be of interest to school districts considering the utilization of EDP.

The study will attempt to utilize the experiences of schools experimenting with modular scheduling in order to establish guidelines for administrators who wish to promote innovative scheduling in their own districts. The study was designed to determine the reading achievement of children for whom English is a second language. The children involved in the study were from two distinct groups of non-English speaking children, those from Spanish-speaking families and those from Navajo families. The children were tested at the end of second grade by standardized reading achievement tests designed to measure reading vocabulary and comprehension. In order to ascertain the breadth of knowledge children have of children's literature and mythology, Legant designed a pre and posttest for these two areas. Forty-two students of two fifth grade classes at Sierra Vista Elementary School, Grants, New Mexico, were used for this study. Problem. This study was designed to evaluate the use of the informal reading inventory in a fifth grade classroom of 29 students in the Northeast Heights of Albuquerque. The emphasis of the study was placed on finding the instructional reading levels of the children. The informal reading inventory the Nelson Reading Test, and teacher grouping were used in an effort to determine the instructional reading levels of the children and then a comparison made of the three means of evaluation.

A Comparison Of The Results Of The Informal Reading Inventory With The Teacher Assigned Reading Level, The Cloze Procedure Level And The Rate Of Reading., Diane Bluestein Brown

The informal reading inventory was explored in conjunction with: (1) the teacher assigned reading level, (2) the cloze procedure to evaluate comprehension, and (3) the rate of silent and oral reading. Sixty children in grades two through six were given the informal reading inventory to determine their independent, instructional, and frustration levels. The children were also given written cloze tests on the basis of their school assigned grade level to evaluate their independent, instructional, and frustration levels. The primary purpose of this study is to propose a program for the preparation of elementary teacher educators in the Republic of Viet-Nam. More specifically, the proposal is a design of a one-year professional program to provide pre-service training for qualified individuals to become normal school instructors and/or to prepare them for other leadership positions in elementary education.

The study underlies three major problems of Viet-Namese education: (~) the inadequate training of elementary school teachers; (b) the lack of a qualified teacher education staff; and (c) the challenge for change in Vietnamese education.

Pupil Growth As A Function Of Teacher Flexibility, Student Independence, And Student Conformance, Stanley James Hipwood

Using a sample of 394 student subjects and six teachers, the author sought to prove the hypothesis that highly independent students would achieve a higher degree of pupil growth in mathematics mastery than would highly conforming students when both groups were under the teaching influence of high flexibility teachers. The California Psychological Inventory (CPI) by Harrison G. Gough was the test instrument selected to test student independence (Achievement via Independence Scale -- Ai), and teacher flexibility (Flexibility Scale -- Fx).
