A Field Study To Effect Changes In Academic Achievement Levels Of Underachieving Seventh-Grade Students, Raymond J. Gargiulo

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The purpose of this study was to improve the academic performance of underachieving seventh-grade students. Specific focus of the study was on improving reading achievement by using within-class instructional grouping to accommodate the range of achievement in the classroom and by matching various instructional materials to the learners' levels of reading (hereafter referred to as the open classroom concept). The study was also design to evaluated associated improvement in arithmetic and social studies skills, as well as the degree of school satisfaction demonstrated by students in the open classroom environment. This study (1) described and analyzed the relationship between family income and voting behavior in four 1968-1969 public school financial referendums in Albuquerque, New Mexico, (2) investigated ether variables which might be related to voter responses in such elections, and (3) developed a method for studying school election voting behavior.

The Manpower Development and Training Act (M.D.T.A.) is the largest and one of the oldest of the federal manpower programs. This study is of the M.D.T.A. experience in one state during a one and one-half year period. The sample was limited to those who completed institutional type training programs. Data used were collected in the normal process of program operation and included characteristics of trainees, individual trainee termination information and the post-training report one year after completion of training. An Analysis Of Administrator And Student Leader Views Of Student Discontent And Solutions On One University Campus., Harold Peter Menninger

The purpose of this investigation was to analyze problems of and solutions to student discontent as viewed by university administrators and student leaders. In addition, the responsibilities, future, and roles of these two groups were investigated, along with questions about the involvement of faculty and students in protest issues and their value positions. Talcott Parsons' theoretical framework, which includes the concept of functional imperatives, was used to achieve deeper interpretation of the results. Several hypotheses derived from Parsons' theory were set forth and tested.
