Effects Of Dictation And Transcription Instruction On Transcription Errors In Beginning Shorthand, Jean A. Berch
Effects Of Dictation And Transcription Instruction On Transcription Errors In Beginning Shorthand, Jean A. Berch
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Lloyd (1972) suggested the importance of simulating realistic business conditions in the classroom to strengthen vocabulary in specific content areas to aid students in the dictation-transcription process. In addition, Turse (1961) also emphasized the fact that students must be able to apply "word sense" when transcribing if they are to retain the correct meaning of the sentence when substituting words of similar meaning for missing shorthand outlines.
The purpose of this study was to determine if various types of instructional techniques given prior to dictation and transcription aid students in reducing their number of transcription errors. Subjects were assigned to …

The Resocialization Of Beginning Teachers., Roy D. Caton
The Resocialization Of Beginning Teachers., Roy D. Caton
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The purpose of the study was to attempt to understand the process of beginning teacher resocialization. Resocialization was defined as beginning teacher adoption of experienced teacher values over time. It was anticipated that the beginning teachers would find their entering values unsupported in the school environment and that beginning teacher resocialization would occur. The major thrust of the study was to search out relevant variables related to this process. Thus potential generalizations from the literature were identified. From the generalizations identified, three key constructs were tentatively formed. These constructs were: (1) beginning and experienced teacher value differences, (2) experience, and …
Problems Of Assessing Bilingualism In Children Entering School., John Wesley Hollomon
Problems Of Assessing Bilingualism In Children Entering School., John Wesley Hollomon
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Recently, much emphasis has been placed on bilingual education, but little has been placed on the problems inherent in the assessment of the bilingual communicative competence of children at the time they enter school. It was often assumed that, because a Spanish surnamed child came from a home in which either or both parents spoke to him in Spanish, he entered school speaking both Spanish and English, perhaps, more Spanish than English. Since the causes and effects of bilingual schooling are to be found outside the school, it was important to take these into consideration. The extent to which the …

An Evaluation Model For Computer-Based Educational Management Information Systems, Robert E. Hall
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
This study began with the problem: How does one effectively evaluate a computer-based educational management information system (C. -B. E. M. I. S.)? The primary objectives of the study were (1) to develop an evaluation model that would effectively evaluate a C. -B. E. M. I. S., and (2) to test the model by evaluating New Mexico's Vocational-Technical Information System (V. -T. I. S.). The evaluation model developed in this study was couched in an "open system" frame of reference and incorporated three important notions about evaluation: (1) that evaluation is an ongoing process; (2) that evaluation facilitates problem-solving; and …

Teaching Critical Thinking Through Student Self Analysis Of Video Taped Seminar Discussions, James M. Miller
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The main objective of the Cedar High School (C.H.S.) study was to develop a curriculum that would be useful to the social studies educator interested in teaching critical thinking skills to high school students. Two Papers Delivered At A Symposium, "The Response Of Society To Unusual And Extreme Pressure Groups," Presented At Indiana University School Of Law, Sidney Hook, Michael I. Sovern
IUSTITIA
The following articles by Professor Hook and Dean Sovern are derived from talks delivered at a symposium, "The Response of Society to Unusual and Extreme Pressure Groups," presented at Indiana University School of Law on November 6, 1970. While the door has apparently closed upon the period of ghetto and campus riots of the la te six ties and early seven ties, the fundamental issues of human righ ts which they raised remain unresolved. The symposium attempted to assess the origins, consequences, and remedies for these conflicts. The recent confrontation between American Indians and federal troops at Wounded Knee, South …
