The Development Of A Rationale And Model Program To Prepare Teachers For The Bilingual-Bicultural Secondary School Programs, Federico MartíNez Carrillo
The Development Of A Rationale And Model Program To Prepare Teachers For The Bilingual-Bicultural Secondary School Programs, Federico MartíNez Carrillo
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Much positive change has occurred in the preparation of teachers for bilingual-bicultural education programs. Several universities and colleges in New Mexico and throughout the nation have taken the initiative to implement some phases of teacher training in bilingual-bicultural education. The present philosophy of our universities of higher education is, however, to initiate, develop and promote teacher training programs for bilingual-bicultural education only for the elementary level of schooling. Little consideration or long-range planning to articulate bilingual-bicultural needs throughout the entire educational process has been effected. The nation wide survey of bilingual-bicultural teacher training programs, conducted as part of the preparation …

A Comparison Of The Written And Oral English Syntax Of Mexican American Bilingual And Anglo American Monolingual Fourth And Ninth Grade Students (Las Vegas, New Mexico), Raymond J. Rodrigues
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The major problem investigated by this study was whether or not Mexican American bilingual fourth and ninth grade students represent the same language population in their English syntactic usage as do Anglo American fourth and ninth grade students in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The first hypothesis specified that the distributions of the following variables of the bilingual and monolingual groups were not significantly different in the oral and written modes: average number of words per clause; average number of clauses per T-unit; average number of words per T-unit; total "sentence-embedding" transformations and "sentence-embedding" transformations in headed nominal, non-headed nominal, adverbial, …

An Assessment Of Cost Variations In Selected Exemplary Special Education Programs In Six Selected Minnesota School Districts, Alfred Lynne Clemmons
An Assessment Of Cost Variations In Selected Exemplary Special Education Programs In Six Selected Minnesota School Districts, Alfred Lynne Clemmons
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Concurrent with the realization that special education children are entitled to equal educational opportunity has been the concern for financing these programs. Until the recent efforts of the National Educational Finance Project, however, very little has been known regarding the nature of the cost of providing programs for children with special needs. The NEFP study was designed to fill the data gap regarding the relative cost of regular school programs and programs for various categories of exceptional children and the resource inputs which contribute most importantly to the cost of such programs. Cost differentials and indices were …

A Comparative Study Of The Effectiveness Of Video Cassette And Slide-Tape Presentations For Self-Instruction Of Paraprofessionals., Pauline A. Lunka Jones
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The purpose of this study was first to prepare a self-instructional 35mm slide-tape presentation which duplicated as nearly as possible an existing video cassette presentation, and then to compare the effectiveness of these for in-service self-instruction of Media Center concepts and equipment usage with school paraprofessionals (instructional aides). The presentations covered the services and activities of a Media Center, the card catalog, the operation of the 16mm projector, the use of the tape recorder, the overhead projector and transparencies, and the use of developmental boards. The video cassette presentation utilized six cassettes drawn from the Communications and Education Through Television …

Fantasy Predisposition: Its Measurement And Effect On Toy Selection And Use In Kindergarten Children., Virginia Mckinney Henderson
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The purpose of this study was to investigate two basic questions. Can present screening measures successfully differentiate between children with high and low predispositions to fantasy in this particular population? If so, will the two groups respond differently to toys which vary on the basis of their form and structure, and will the groups differ on certain other behavioral correlates of fantasy such as persistence, originality of story themes and flexibility? The two parts of the study corresponded to the two questions being raised.
Identification Of Infants At Risk For Potential Developmental Problems Secondary To Stress In Their Mothers., Susanne Bradley Brown
Identification Of Infants At Risk For Potential Developmental Problems Secondary To Stress In Their Mothers., Susanne Bradley Brown
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
One of the first tasks of mothering is the feeding of the child. It is recognized that certain mothers have difficulty carrying out this function. If the mother has extreme difficulty with this task, her child is at risk for neurologic and the subsequent educational problems.
This study looked at the amount of stress in the mother in the year preceding delivery to the rate of weight gain in her child. The hypothesis that mothers with increased stress would have the greatest difficulty feeding their infants could not be accepted. There was, however, an indication that once the total stress …

One-hundred and forty-five instructors participated in the study from two-year colleges in a five state area: California, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. The instrumentation used in the study was a questionnaire divided into three parts. Part one …

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study was to determine if high school counselors' predictive opinions of freshman college academic success were reliable indicators of actual college academic success achieved by freshman students.

All except one of the null hypotheses were rejected at the .05 level of …
