Television As A Source Of Stereotypes, Amy Lange Atkins

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of the research was to explore the manner in which culturally related images of Anglo-Americans projected by television were related to stereotyped attitudes in Mexican­American children in the Southwest. Previous evidence indicated the more personal experience one has with a cultural group, the less one might tend to believe the stereotypes projected by the mass media of that cultural group. This study was an extension of previous studies which examined the relationship between these variables.

Procedures and Methods

A survey of a sample group of Mexican-American children was conducted using a questionnaire-interview method. Data …
