Relationship Between Systematic Planning At Community Colleges And Goal Agreement, Nancy Emily Stetson Jan 1980

Relationship Between Systematic Planning At Community Colleges And Goal Agreement, Nancy Emily Stetson

All Master's Theses

The relationship between systematic planning at community colleges and goal agreement among administrators was studied. Sixty-nine administrators at four community colleges were surveyed. The results showed that administrators at the two community colleges who perceived their institutions to be relatively more systematic in planning also perceived relatively smaller gaps between what were, and what should be the goals of their institutions. By this measure, community college administrators demonstrated a consistent and positive relationship between systematic planning and goal agreement.

The Nature Of The Middle School In Washington State - 1980, Edward Allen Barnhart Jan 1980

The Nature Of The Middle School In Washington State - 1980, Edward Allen Barnhart

All Master's Theses

The nature of the middle school in the state of Washington and its conformance to the middle school concept was studied. Eighty-four of the state's ninety-two middle school principals reported on programs and offerings in their schools. The study indicated that Washington middle schools conform favorably to the concept in all major areas except grading practices and athletic programs. The schools recognize a developmental stage of transescence and minister to it through child-child- centered rather than subject-centered programs. Further study is recommended to compare the middle school with the junior high school in the state of Washington.

A Content Analysis Of Public School Education News In An Independently Owned Small Daily Newspaper, Linda L. Mccleary Jan 1980

A Content Analysis Of Public School Education News In An Independently Owned Small Daily Newspaper, Linda L. Mccleary

All Master's Theses

Newspapers and school districts form a tentative partnership in the dissemination of education news. Subjects preferred by readers have not been reflected in actual education news coverage. Emphasis on utility information at the expense of in-depth writing about what is going on in public education has been standard practice. Content analysis shows that while quantity of education news seems reasonable, the quality of that news fails to transmit to readers the substance of what teachers and children are accomplishing in the public schools.

The Transportation Program In Illinois School Districts, Lenard A. Defend Jan 1980

The Transportation Program In Illinois School Districts, Lenard A. Defend

Masters Theses

This field study, which is an examination of the transportation program in a local school district in Illinois, gives special attention to what is expected of a local district by the state of Illinois. Many of those expectations are found in the school code as regulations for the local school district in its transportation program.

Though this field experience, which was done in the Shelbyville Community Unit Schools during the fall semester, 1979, is a summary of transportation practices in one school district, it does contain information of a general nature which may be of interest. Much of the information …

A Needs Assessment Survey For Parent Involvement In Ina Community Consolidated District No. 8, Ina, Illinois, Clyde D. Hayes

Masters Theses

The Needs Assessment Survey for Parent Involvement in Ina Community Consolidated District No. 8, Ina, Illinois was created to: 1) provide for parent involvement in program planning as mandated by state law, and 2) give the local board and administrator help in setting goals consistent with public needs and expectations.

To address initial needs assessment, teachers were asked to list a maximum of eight needs under each of five areas. The five areas were staff, building, equipment, grounds, and curriculum. The administrator also prepared a similar list based on his personal observations and past discussions with board members. From these …

The Positive Approach: In-School Alternatives To Suspension, Gary Bryan Layton Jan 1980

The Positive Approach: In-School Alternatives To Suspension, Gary Bryan Layton

Masters Theses

The purpose of this field experience was to develop what the writer felt would be the major areas or components of a workable program concerned with in-school alternatives to suspension. Upon completion of the development of the eleven components of the alternative program to suspension, the writer chose to entitle the program, The Positive Approach, In-School Alternatives to Suspension.

Due to the large number of out-of-school suspensions in school systems each year, and the widespread disillusion with out-of-school suspension as a disciplinary procedure, school administrators are beginning to develop in-school alternative programs to suspension.

The instituting of an in-school alternative …

The Establishment Of A Student Self-Scheduling System At Greenville High School, Bill Wells Jan 1980

The Establishment Of A Student Self-Scheduling System At Greenville High School, Bill Wells

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study is to explain the mechanics involved with a scheduling system which will reduce student schedule changes and promote a smoother start to the academic school year.

The study will not only trace the history of self-scheduling at Effingham High School beginning in 1975 but will outline the method used to continue a similar scheduling system at Greenville High School in 1978.

As a guidance counselor at Effingham High School starting in the school year of 1974, I was dissatisfied with the scheduling system. Not surprisingly, the other two guidance personnel plus most of the teaching …

The Development Of A Student Handbook For The Argenta-Oreana Middle School, Michael Schmitz Jan 1980

The Development Of A Student Handbook For The Argenta-Oreana Middle School, Michael Schmitz

Masters Theses

The development of a student handbook for the Middle School students of the Argenta-Oreana School District was the object of this particular field study. The handbook previously used by the students was merely an overview of the rules and regulations and was definitely lacking in detail and explanation. Our high school has a student handbook, but the distinct differences between the operation of the high school and the middle school would not permit the use of the same handbook for both buildings. It was through experiences of my four years of employment as middle school principal, directives from the board …

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine if the System of Multicultural Pluralistic Assessment (SOMPA) information which included the Adaptive Behavior Inventory for Children (ABIC) and the Estimated Learning Potential (ELP) was redundant of information on the teacher-scored Hahnemann Elementary School Behavior Scale (HESB) and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) subtest scores for male and female Black, White, and Chicano Learning Handicapped (LH) and Resource Specialist Program (RSP) fourth grade-age students. LH students in the Sacramento City Unified School District system were considered more academically handicapped than RSP students. If these various tests were found to be …

A Study Of Principals’ Opinions About Minimum Competency Testing In Their Schools, Thomas J. Renze Jan 1980

A Study Of Principals’ Opinions About Minimum Competency Testing In Their Schools, Thomas J. Renze

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Minimum competency testing (MCT) has been a controversial educational issue for the past several years. Much of the literature on this topic has been written by educators and/or members of the public who are not directly responsible for implementation, administration, or evaluation of test results. This study was designed to gather information from primary sources concerning their opinions about the use of minimum competency testing programs in their own schools. Data was gathered during the 1978-79 school year.

Professional literature indicates that the minimum competency testing movement was generally initiated by individuals and groups outside of educational circles who were …

A Study Of The Educational Administrator's Responsibility For Facility Planning As Seen By The Public-School Superintendents And Private-School Principals In Southwestern Michigan, Gado Appollo Ongwela Jan 1980

A Study Of The Educational Administrator's Responsibility For Facility Planning As Seen By The Public-School Superintendents And Private-School Principals In Southwestern Michigan, Gado Appollo Ongwela

Dissertations

Problem

Planning of educational facilities is recognized as the responsibility of the educational administrator (Anderson & Van Dyke, 1972; McClurkin, 1964). Much has been written about planning of educational facilities and about the role of the architect and the facility planning specialist, but the details of the educational administrator's responsibility for facility planning has not been clearly defined (Boyer, 1973).

Method

To determine the essential elements of the administrator's responsibility in planning educational facilities, an extensive review of literature was undertaken. Sixty-three educational administrators in southwestern Michigan--thirty from private schools and thirty-three from public-school systems--were involved through a structured interview …
