The purpose of this report is describe a seven week internship in the Portage Public Schools during which the intern engaged in a variety of administrative activities. Chapter I contains the rationale for the selection of the Portage Public School, a brief description of the school system and the prospectus which structured the experience.

Chapter II describes the experiences during the internship, which involved elementary supervision, curriculum development, and administrative tasks and procedures.

Chapter III is an analysis of the organizational structure and leadership style that the intern observed at the Portage Public Schools.

The community of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, has a long history of providing an outstanding educational program for youth. Over the past few years with spiraling in flation, negotiations with labor unions, and declining enrollments, there have been political and financial stresses affecting the entire community which could influence the quality of educational programs in the future.

The plan for the internship is contained in a prospectus which has been included in the first chapter. The Effects Of Alternative Diffusion Channels And Alternative Organizational Positions Of Receivers Of Diffusion Information Upon Receiver Understanding And Practitioner Utilization Of An Educational Innovation, Howard T. Major

This study investigated selected effects of diffusing an educational innovation via one of two diffusion channels, either print or dyadic exchange, to one of two organizational positions of the receivers of diffusion information, either the building principal or the building media professional. The selected effects included a cognitive effect and a behavioral effect. The cognitive effect consisted of receivers' understanding of the innovation and the principles of its effective utilization. This understanding of the innovation was measured with a 10-item instrument developed for this study. The behavioral effect consisted of an actual utilization of the innovation by individuals in the …

The study sought to relate elements of grievance procedures contained in Michigan teacher negotiated contracts to grievance frequency. This was an attempt to identify grievance procedure elements that contribute to excessive or unsatisfactory use of the procedure.

The Purpose. The purpose of the study was to examine a community currently experiencing a double-sessions school organization. The citizens, students, graduates, and staff of the Yale School District, Yale, Michigan, were surveyed to determine their attitudes toward double sessions and their opinions on selected educational values. The data were examined to determine if there was a direct relationship between the opinions held on these selected values and agreement-disagreement with double sessions and to determine differences among participants regarding their opinions.

Schools, being a part of the larger social system, have not escaped the increasing pressures evident in our society. The principalship as an important component of the educational process has not enjoyed immunity from this same problem.

Because school principals are individuals, they react differently to life stressors. Some appear to have the ability to handle all stressors without suffering any onset of medical problems. The purpose of this study was to examine various management problems that may exist in the administrative setting when the group being managed has as much or more education and/or experience than the manager. Specifically, the nature of medical training and education in medical schools was proposed to affect the groups of medical doctors, both salaried by the corporation and volunteers, in the managerial setting when the manager was required to operate the educational facility as a business in the profit-making sense as opposed to the hospital setting where the doctors may be less concerned about cost factors. In the 1960's teachers obtained the right to bargain collectively with local boards of education. During the succeeding 20 years, some teachers' collective bargaining groups evolved from a single local union to a regional unit. Macomb County and Grosse Pointe, Michigan, teachers evolved in the manner now represented by the MEA/NEA Local I regionalized group.

The purpose of this study was to investigate regional bargaining and its impact on local control of schools as perceived by school board members, superintendents, principals, union presidents, and teachers.
