Perception Of A University: A Study Of How Parents Develop Preferences For An Institution Of Higher Education, Carl Donald Hadsell
Perception Of A University: A Study Of How Parents Develop Preferences For An Institution Of Higher Education, Carl Donald Hadsell
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
As documented in previous research, parents are an important influence in their child’s college selection process. However, little attention had been given to how parents themselves develop perceptions of or preferences for specific colleges under consideration. This study’s research design tested the null hypothesis:
"THERE EXISTS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARENT(S) OF IN-STATE STUDENTS AND PARENT(S) OF OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS IN THEIR FORMATION OF PERCEPTIONS AND PREFERENCES FOR WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY (WVU)."
A sample was drawn from a general population that consisted of the following three categories of students who showed interest in WVU for Fall, 1981:
- High school seniors who only …

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Otto Andrew Gullickson came to the Marshall University campus in the fall of 1930. He was known to generations of Marshall students simply as Swede. Prior to coming to Marshall, he received his education from the State Teachers College at Valley City, North Dakota, Springfield College, and Columbia University. He also served in the United States Army and the American Red Cross. Swede gained teaching experience at Franklin and Marshall Academy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, and the Charlotte Public School System in Charlotte, North Carolina before coming to Marshall. Western Kentucky University offers an educational program that emphasizes teaching, research and public service. Research is accomplished in two ways.
The first process is directly sponsored by the University through faculty research grants. These grants are supported by normal departmental efforts to provide an atmosphere for faculty/student involvement in developing and initiating new ideas, technology, and ares of investigation. The second process is that of externally sponsored grant and contract research. Standard 11 discusses both types of funding.
Although there have been some shifts in emphasis during the period studied, certain faculty members have a constant record of significant contributions …

A Follow-Up Study To Determine Selected Characteristics And Perceptions Regarding The Academic Preparation Of Master Degree Graduates Who Majored In School Administration: Central Washington University 1976-1981, Richard P. Lynch
All Graduate Projects
The purposes of this study were (1) to determine selected demographic characteristics of master degree graduates, who majored in school administration, and who graduated from the Graduate Division of Education since the 1976 Summer quarter through the 1981 Summer quarter; (2) to ascertain the extent to which these graduates perceived the courses of instruction in their academic preparationas being relevant to subsequent educational administration functions; and (3) to determine additional courses of instruction, not in the present curriculum, that these selected graduates perceived would be professionally relevant to current educational administrative functions.

Follow-up
Most courses offered by colleges and universities are housed in what are called general assignment classrooms. Although much similarity exists among classrooms they are not all alike nor do they serve all instructional purposes equally well. Therefore to provide instructors with information about campus classrooms can greatly assist them with their teaching.

To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development
The conspiracy of silence is breaking up: we are learning to talk more openly about our joys and fears as teachers, our achievements and frustrations in the classroom. As I have listened to my colleagues talk about their students and their classrooms, the one fear and frustration mentioned more than any other, as for Henry Adams, was in leading a discussion. No matter how many articles on technique we read, or workshops we attend, the dreaded discussion continues to bother us more than any other part of our daily teaching lives. Freshman seminar and discussion-based core programs continue to develop. …
