ABSTRACT

The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study was to explore how we can best support our teachers in matching our ever-changing educational landscape, specifically our neurodivergent learners. When educating neurodivergent students (students with autism or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), we must understand how to teach these creative, sometimes misunderstood individuals and unleash their full potential. To do so, we need educational practitioners who have healthy perceptions of what it means to be neurodivergent and educators who understand both the talents and hurdles that being neurodivergent may entail. This qualitative, phenomenological study aimed to better understand how and whether educators can maintain well-being during prolonged trauma. This study examines the experiences of Ukrainian educators living in non-occupied territories during wartime. The following research questions guided the study: What coping strategies do educators use to take care of themselves? What coping strategies do educators use with their students? How do educators perceive mindfulness and storytelling? A conceptual framework was created to better understand the topics of stress, trauma, being, well-being, surviving, suffering, and coping mechanisms through a literature review. Despite significant educational achievements, African American women remain underrepresented in academic leadership at predominantly White institutions. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the experiences, challenges, and barriers of African American women when navigating leadership pathways. The conceptual framework guiding this study was Crenshaw’s intersectionality theory. For this basic qualitative study, purposive and snowball sampling led to semistructured interviews with 8 African American women who had at least 2 years of experience in academic leadership roles at predominantly White institutions. Cost-Saving For Low-Income Students? Does Dual Enrollment Increase College Students’ Scholarships And Grants?, Xiaodan Hu

Journal of Student Financial Aid

This study examines the relationship between earning dual credits and college students’ scholarships and grants packages and levels, focusing on low-income students. Using nationally representative data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009, I used a quasi-experimental approach to reduce selection bias of DE credit-earning coupled with regression models. The findings indicate that first-year college students with earned DE credits are about 1.5 times more likely to receive scholarships and grants, especially for merit-based aid. On average for the full sample, DE students receive $1,229 more in total scholarships and grants when compared with non-DE students, with $586 more …

This research project aimed to delve into the perceptions and comprehension of artificial intelligence (AI) policy and usage among key stakeholders in Midwest schools, including superintendents, principals, teachers, and school librarians. This qualitative study explored the nuanced perspectives and insights of these individuals, shedding light on their understanding, concerns, and attitudes towards the integration of AI technologies within educational settings. Through in-depth focus groups and thematic analysis, the study endeavors to contribute valuable insights into the evolving landscape of AI in education, informing policy decisions and educational practices for the benefit of students and educators alike.

While the literature has documented the existence of colorblind racism in college students and faculty members, data about student affairs professionals (SAPs) are not yet clear. The purpose of this quasi-experimental interventional single group research was to assess SAPs using the Color-Blind Racial Attitudes Scale (CoBRAS) to investigate whether colorblind racism is present within the culture of the student affairs profession. This qualitative phenomenological study aimed to understand the perceptions of Connecticut public school district administrators working at K-12 underperforming schools implementing response to intervention (RTI). Little was known about district administrators working in Connecticut K-12 underperforming schools’ perceptions of RTI implementation. Data was collected via semi-structured interviews with six volunteer participants who qualified as district administrators working in underperforming K-12 public schools in Connecticut. The information from this study illustrated how the district administrators perceived RTI implementation within their districts and the barriers they faced related to RTI implementation. Previous scholars investigating the effects of student loan debt have conducted survey analyses involving large samples to examine the relationships among debt forgiveness, loan repayment behavior, income earnings, and returning home. Fewer works have explored the outcomes of student loan elimination in a qualitative study. In 2019, Robert Smith donated a Gift (RSGift) to the graduating class of Morehouse College, which eliminated the new graduates’ student loan debt, inviting further inquiry into their developments since receiving the gift. We examined patterns and sociodemographic correlates of financial characteristics and behaviors among emerging and young (18-34-year-old) student loan borrowers who were repaying their loans. Employing latent class regression modeling on a subset of the 2018 National Financial Capability Study (N =1,490), we explored heterogenous constellation of patterns in financial characteristics and behaviors of these borrowers. Results indicated four distinct classes of financial characteristics and behaviors: financially strained (20.8%), financially balanced (29.2%), financially capricious (20%), and financially vulnerable (30.1%). Gender, race, and education were found to be consistently correlated with financial characteristics and behavior patterns. Marital status, income, employment, and welfare …

This study employs data from the National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCES) Baccalaureate and Beyond Surveys to compare financial well-being among college graduates with varying social characteristics and levels of student debt. We use logistic regression to answer three questions: 1) To what extent does the amount of debt at graduation affect students' financial stress that they will be able to meet their fiscal obligations following graduation; 2) To what degree does this affect students from marginalized backgrounds; and 3) What are the postgraduate financial experiences of students who graduate from Hispanic Serving Institutions, Primarily Black Institutions, or Historically Black …
