Student Support: A K-6 At-Risk Program Model, Patricia Arthaud Jan 1990

Student Support: A K-6 At-Risk Program Model, Patricia Arthaud

All Graduate Projects

The purpose of this study was to identify priority components and measurement standards of an effective K-6 At-Risk Program, then develop a resource guide for At-Risk program managers. A Study Of Learning Activities Of Selected Caregivers Of Alzheimer's Patients In East Tennessee, Jeannette G. Mclaughlin

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The problem of this study was to identify and describe the individual learning activities of caregivers of people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and to develop an analytical description of the patterns of learning of these adults. An instrument was not available for use; therefore, a focused interview guide was developed. The interview guide was developed through consultation with several spouses or adult children caring for Alzheimer's patients, professionals in the health care field, and a review of the literature. The major analysis procedure for the study was the constant comparative method, an inductive method that has been used …

The Department Chair As Responsible Academic Leader: A Competency--Based Perspective, Randy Y. Hirokawa, J. Kevin Barge, Samuel L. Becker, Judith L. Sutherland

Association for Communication Administration Bulletin

This article presents a competency-based perspective on academic leadership, focusing on the role of department chairs in higher education. It critiques traditional trait, style, and functional approaches to leadership for their limitations in explaining how chairs contribute to departmental effectiveness. The study reports faculty perceptions of nineteen competencies necessary for effective leadership, which cluster into four categories: resource management, climate management, image management, and faculty development. Findings indicate that these competencies are generalizable across different academic units and strongly predict perceptions of leadership effectiveness. The discussion emphasizes the chair’s role as a mediator between faculty and administration, requiring skills that …

Study of this topic reveals added information and direction to administrators of university administrative programs, school board members and school personnel administrators involved in hiring and providing training or staff development. As a result, the commonalities and differences among female school administrators in Oregon are identified. Identifying the factors that relate to upward mobility of tenured and nontenured female administrators provides insight and hopefully will promote …
