The Use Of Performance Data To Monitor And Support The Reorganization Of An Educational System, Ellen Spall Thompson

Masters Theses

The goal of this study was to determine the performance effects on staff and students following the reorganization of a special education facility. The organizational plan was based on the development of teaching teams where students were grouped together according to exit curricular goals. Four interventions were completed in order to assess the overall outcome of the reorganization project. At the student level, the rate of learning was monitored in order to determine whether the implementation of teams affected educational objective acquisition . At the team level, meeting agendas were surveyed to find out what effect they had on student …

Theory Z And Administrative Management, Judy Cureton, Bob Cureton Aug 1983

Theory Z And Administrative Management, Judy Cureton, Bob Cureton

Association for Communication Administration Bulletin

Focused on communication departments in higher education, this article considers Theory Z as a framework for administrative management during periods of limited resources. It describes Theory Z as an approach grounded in participatory decision making, egalitarian relationships, delegation, shared philosophy, and attention to human resources. The discussion links these principles to communication administration by emphasizing consensus, quality circles, departmental self study, consumer definitions of program quality, and long range planning. It also addresses hiring, evaluation, rewards, recognition, and the influence of individual interests on departmental objectives. The article closes by discussing trust, subtlety, and intimacy as interpersonal foundations for management, …

The Relationship Of Preferred Work Environment And Job Satisfaction Of Community College Administrators, Susan Dunn Duford Apr 1983

The Relationship Of Preferred Work Environment And Job Satisfaction Of Community College Administrators, Susan Dunn Duford

Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of job satisfaction and preferred work environment of community college administrators. Administrators from four southeast Lower Michigan community colleges were the population (N = 50). The administrators in expanding areas (N = 29) were compared with those in contrasting areas (N = 21). Members of each group completed a demographic questionnaire developed by the researcher as well as the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (Weiss et al., 1967) and the Work Environment Preference Schedule (Gordon, 1973). Survey instruments were mailed to each administrator and non-respondents were telephoned to determine reasons for noncompletion. …

The Quality Of Public Education In Boston: An Assessment And Some Recommendations, Karen Seashore Louis

Center for Survey Research Publications

Motivation, self-esteem, achievement and the development of tolerance and acceptance of others -- these are the goals that most, like Crain, et al., have come to accept as legitimate objectives of public schooling. Yet, there is substantial opinion that the public schools of Boston have been unable to achieve standards in these areas that are acceptable to the public, the students who occupy the schools, and the professionals who run them. For example, a recent survey of Boston residents' attitudes toward the schools indicates that approximately 3/4 of all respondents -- irrespective of race, or whether there were any school …

A Follow-Up Study To Determine Selected Characteristics And Perceptions Regarding The Academic Preparation Of Master Degree Graduates Who Majored In School Administration: Central Washington University 1976-1981, Richard P. Lynch

All Graduate Projects

The purposes of this study were (1) to determine selected demographic characteristics of master degree graduates, who majored in school administration, and who graduated from the Graduate Division of Education since the 1976 Summer quarter through the 1981 Summer quarter; (2) to ascertain the extent to which these graduates perceived the courses of instruction in their academic preparationas being relevant to subsequent educational administration functions; and (3) to determine additional courses of instruction, not in the present curriculum, that these selected graduates perceived would be professionally relevant to current educational administrative functions.

Selected Personality Constructs As Correlates Of Personnel Appointment, Appraisal, And Mobility In Seventh-Day Adventist Schools, Merle A. Greenway

Dissertations

Problem. Despite tentative postulations and explorations of the person/job interaction, the specific relationships between personality and occupational behavior are not clearly understood. In particular, the relationships between human temperament and various aspects of personnel administration in an educational setting are generally unknown. The purpose of this study was to profile the temperament traits of professional educators in the Seventh-day Adventist school system, grouped on the basis of occupationally relevant selection variables; and to investigate the role of personality as it relates to personnel appointment, appraisal, and mobility.

Method. A demographic questionnaire and the Temperament Inventory were administered to 486 teachers, …

Programs And Practitioners: We Do What We Are, Stephen R. Phillips Jul 1979

Programs And Practitioners: We Do What We Are, Stephen R. Phillips

POD Quarterly: The Journal of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education

Teaching has sometimes been described as "a function of personality." Although clearly an oversimplification of a complex and difficult activity, the concept nevertheless has considerable merit; what we as teachers can do or are willing to try in the classroom and in our relationships with our colleagues, our students, and our institutions is in many ways determined by what we are as people. In a similar way, what we as individuals involved in faculty development can or are willing to do with or for faculty, administrators and students is as much a function of our personalities as of the skills …

The Future Of Faculty Development, David O. Justice Apr 1979

The Future Of Faculty Development, David O. Justice

POD Quarterly: The Journal of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education

Reading the future is a risky business for the most thoughtful and prescient minds. I was therefore surprised to be asked to address the future of faculty development in view of the fact that I already have a record of predictions. I predicted, for example, 'Richard Nixon will never resign'; 'The Cardinals will stick with an Italian-Pope' and 'there will be a cabinet level Department of Education in 1978'.

With this record behind me, I will nonetheless tum my talents to faculty development and present my thoughts about its future. I should point out that I use the term faculty …
