The Efficiency Of A Long Range Facilities Plan In An Abbott School District, Nancy B. Knarr-Pascoe

Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated the efficiency of the Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP) for the Millville School District and sought to determine, through the creation of inventories, the completed and in progress facilities projects, in addition to those that will not be completed by the close of the district's current LRFP. On-going personal communication with the district's facilities coordinator provided continual updates on the status of all facilities projects within the district. In addition, this study examined both the New Jersey Administrative Code (NJAC) (6A:26-8.1) and documentation made available on the New Jersey Department of Education's (NJDOE) School Facilities Web site …

A Study Of The Creation Of A Pupil Assistance Committee Improvement Plan That Facilitates An Effective Committee By Utilizing A Collaborative Leadership Approach, Donald M. Robertson Iii

Theses and Dissertations

The Pupil Assistance Committee (PAC) was created by New Jersey's Department of Education to assist educators in identifying and implementing instructional strategies that would best address the needs of struggling students. PAC committees throughout the State face increased referral rates and limited program options, making for a frustrating situation. The Pupil Assistance Committee of the Dr. Joyanne D. Miller Elementary School is faced with these same problems. To reduce the feelings of frustration among the committee members and increase committee effectiveness a review of PAC procedures must take place and a renewed focus of PAC goals must be facilitated.

Honors Research In Nursing: Integration Of Theory And Evidence-Based Practice Using Multiple Modalities Of Thinking, Ellen Buckner Apr 2004

Honors Research In Nursing: Integration Of Theory And Evidence-Based Practice Using Multiple Modalities Of Thinking, Ellen Buckner

Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council Online Archive

Clinical judgment in nursing requires integration of a broad set of concepts from patho-physiological processes and situation-specific assessments to human caring and interpersonal communication. Nursing students consistently report difficulty in understanding and applying the complexities and ambiguities of care. They often perceive mixed messages and competing perspectives that cannot be resolved; their increasing frustration can produce anxiety about the conceptual tasks of scholarship. Honors research in nursing addresses this problem directly. Students have the opportunity to develop project ideas through all phases of the research process. They select a clinical question, relate it to nursing theory and current literature, design …

Lawrence V. Texas: Does This Mean Increased Privacy Rights For Gay And Lesbian Teacher?, Suzanne Eckes, Martha Mccarthy Apr 2004

Lawrence V. Texas: Does This Mean Increased Privacy Rights For Gay And Lesbian Teacher?, Suzanne Eckes, Martha Mccarthy

Journal of Women in Educational Leadership

This article addresses the Supreme Court's 2003 decision in Lawrence v. Texas and its implications for the rights of gay and lesbian public school teachers. The authors provide a context by reviewing the teacher role-model theory, traditional standards used in dismissals for immoral conduct, and pre-Lawrence cases regarding public employees' privacy rights. Then they analyze Lawrence v. Texas, which struck down a Texas law imposing criminal penalties for persons of the same sex engaging in certain sexual conduct. The final section explores implications of the expanded liberty right announced in Lawrence for public school teachers and their lifestyle choices.

The Changing Face Of Higher Education: Why More Administrators Are Wearing Lipstick, Barbara R. Jones, Ronda O. Credille

Journal of Women in Educational Leadership

During the 150 years women have participated in higher education, they have made tremendous strides. At many post-secondary institutions, women were not accepted as students until the second half of the 20th century. In 2004, women serve in the upper echelons of power at some of the nation's oldest and most prestigious universities. This inquiry examines the history of women's participation in higher education, including their entry into leadership positions within the academy and the barriers and facilitators they experienced. The leadership models and the career development of women are also examined. The results of interviews with eight women administrators …

Retaining Students: Is It For Gaining Or Restraining?, Terence Johnson

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to investigate students in Grades 6-8 who were retained in Elementary School and tracked their academic progress since the retention. This study was conducted to determine whether retaining students benefits or hinders their chances of academic success. Once the retained students in Grades 6-8 were identified, the reasons for their retentions (located in the student's personal files) were investigated and recorded. Questionnaires for selected educational professionals in the district revealed whether their opinions on student retentions were unbiased or not. Student questionnaires revealed the retained student's personal perspective on being retained. Student pre and …
