Selected Factors Which Influence Church-Related Education In Developing Countries, Stuart Paul Berkeley Jan 1966

Selected Factors Which Influence Church-Related Education In Developing Countries, Stuart Paul Berkeley

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The general problem of this study was to investigate and analyze selected social, political, and economic factors in Ethiopia that affect the continuation and development of education by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The specific purpose of this research was to develop from this analysis of Ethiopia those alternatives and recommendations which would aid Seventh-Day Adventist leaders in the development of plans for educational work in that country.

The basic question was: Can the Seventh-Day Adventists system of education plan for the social, political, and economic changes taking place in Ethiopia?

The Cuba High School Experimental Program In Nongraded English, Robert J. Smith Sep 1965

The Cuba High School Experimental Program In Nongraded English, Robert J. Smith

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

There are two observations about which few people would disagree: that (in modern terminology) individual differences do exist (some people can do things that others cannot do), and that some learnings must be sequential (a child must learn to make noises before he can learn to talk). That individual differences do exist in virtually any area that can be isolated for inspection has been shown in many studies and experiments; that their existence has strong implications in education has also been repeatedly shown.

The Effectiveness Of Follow-Up Procedures For Televised Music Instruction, Vera E. Snyder Sep 1965

The Effectiveness Of Follow-Up Procedures For Televised Music Instruction, Vera E. Snyder

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Problem and significance. A conservative estimate shows that there are approximately 121,000 elementary school pupils regularly viewing educational television in New Mexico. Of this number, 66,000 are “enrolled” in science, 7,000 in Spanish, and 48,000 in music. For the KNME-TV program, Music 6, there are an estimated 15,000 sixth-grade students enrolled. For a state with a population of approximately 1,100,000, these are rather impressive figures---particularly since educational television has gained prominence only in the last decade. Researchers attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of this medium have produced hundreds of reports showing “no significant difference” between educational television and ordinary classroom …

A Comparative Study Of Individualized And Basal Reading Methods In First Grade, Zelda Maggart Aug 1965

A Comparative Study Of Individualized And Basal Reading Methods In First Grade, Zelda Maggart

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Today’s children live in a world of words. From nursery days onward they are in contact with reading in many forms. They face a future filled with a multitude of technological and social problems, each one needing attention and understanding of citizens educated to the highest degree consistent with abilities and interests. Reading is at the center of an effective educational program. While research indicates that children read better today than ever before, reading programs must not be permitted to become static. New ways must be found to improve the teaching of reading.

A Survey Of The Administration Of Noninstructional Personnel In The Richmond Public Schools And Other School Divisions With Comparable Enrollments, Harold David Gibson

Master's Theses

School personnel administration.is concerned with two basic categories of employees: teaching and nonteaching or instructional and noninstructional. How they differ in definition and classification and which employees of a school division fall into the respective categories, especially the noninstructional classification, is the purpose for the survey to be reported in the succeeding chapters of this investigation. Little or no professional literature· exists to clarify this issue. Consequently, 'it is the desire of the writer to report and analyze what is presently being done in the administration of noninstructional employees.

Flexible Scheduling, Stanley R. Schmick Jul 1965

Flexible Scheduling, Stanley R. Schmick

Graduate Student Research Papers

The purpose of this study is to show that we are recognizing and learning ways to cope with the problem; namely: how to return the use of time, space, numbers, and content to those who need it--the teachers and their students--in even the larger schools that symbolize so well our concept of education for all youth. We are also learning how to cope with an equally important additional problem; how to treat a pupil as an individual even though he is one in a great mass of students. Solving these two problems constitutes the exciting challenge of our day. During …

A Study Of The Relationship Between Anxiety And School Achievement, Ervin F. Holle May 1965

A Study Of The Relationship Between Anxiety And School Achievement, Ervin F. Holle

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

The theory that anxiety is an important factor in the school performance of individuals, particularly children, has received increased attention in recent years. The noted psychologist Jersild called attention to the problems:

Fear exists so generally in contemporary life that our time has been called the “age of anxiety.” The present age is probably no more fear-ridden than earlier periods in history; instead, we perhaps recognize the inroads of fear more clearly and acknowledge them more openly than we did in the past.

Sarason and his associates conducted research for several years concerning themselves with the problem of the “relationships …

Textbooks Used In The Elementary Schools Of New Mexico (1846-1964), Mildred Gunn Fitzpatrick May 1965

Textbooks Used In The Elementary Schools Of New Mexico (1846-1964), Mildred Gunn Fitzpatrick

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Textbooks have been highly influential in developing the instructional program in American schools. Next to the teacher, textbooks have had a more significant part in determining what has been taught and how it has been taught than any other single influence (Maxwell, 1921, p.1; Tidwell, 1928, p.1; N.E.A., 1962, p.23; Carpenter, 1963, p.278). Textbooks reflect the trend of current educational thought; therefore, the development of a broad picture of textbook use in New Mexico should provide a better understanding of instructional programs both in pioneer-day and present-day schools systems. A study of textbooks should also provide information about the general …
