A Survey Of Attitudes Toward A Public School System, Darwin A. Winke
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the attitude of the public toward the public school in a small Iowa school district, Gladbrook, and compare this with the public attitudes on a national survey conducted by George Gallup. This survey was conducted because public attitudes towards public schools are continually changing and because very little information about the public's attitude towards the school in Gladbrook, Iowa, was available.
Reviewing the literature was the first phase of the study. The literature in this field was divided into four areas: (1) criticism and critics of education, (2) need for change in …

The Spanish Syntax Of The Pre-School Spanish American: The Case Of New Mexican Five-Year Old Children, MaríA Estela Brisk
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Recent studies of the acquisition of syntax have revealed that it is not fully developed by the time a child enters first grade. In preparing and implementing bilingual programs for Spanish speaking children, then, it is of interest to know at what level of development the Spanish syntax of these children is. This study tries to determine the level of development of a rural and an urban group of five year old Spanish-American children from New Mexico. A surface syntactic analysis as well as a review of interference, dialectal, and developmental features of the speech of these children constitutes the …

The Center offers both college credit and other types of courses at nominal fees. An evaluation of the Center--based in part on a …

A Study Of Relationships Between Teacher Classroom Behavior And Concurrent Student Interest In Classroom Activities, Earl Mcgrath Douglas
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Although it is widely conceded among educators that the problem of student interest and involvement in ongoing classroom activities is a crucial one, it has received little attention from researchers. This study was initiated to investigate the extent of student interest displayed in ongoing classroom activities, and to determine whether student interest may be related to certain kinds of behavior exhibited by their teachers.
