A Program Of School Social Work, Phyllis Marie Jaszkowiak Feb 1973

A Program Of School Social Work, Phyllis Marie Jaszkowiak

Dissertations and Theses

School social work is in a state of flux. Traditional casework services in the schools, as the only function of the school social worker, is becoming less viable.

The study of Assumption school and area points out some problem areas, as well as strengths. In view of these problems and strengths, a broadened school social work program is discussed. The program centers around prevention, treatment, and research. A basic principle upon which all is based is a team approach of social work, school, and community. The discussion leads to the community school concept, which is currently seen as one of …

A Survey Of Opinions Of Selected Principals Concerning Preparation, Characteristics, And Competencies Desirable For Principals For Junior High And Middle Schools, John Lee Bobroff

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

The great majority of the principals who work in junior high and middle schools have not experienced a professional preparation intended specifically for principals of these grades. It would seem reasonable that the principals for the junior high and middle schools should be prepared in programs specifically designed for principals of these grades, programs that are distinct and different from either the traditional elementary school or senior high school type of preparation. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the perceptions of junior high and middle school principals concerning what they felt to be important in the preparation of …

Beginnings (Brief History Of Sacred Heart University) Addendum, Sacred Heart University Jan 1973

Beginnings (Brief History Of Sacred Heart University) Addendum, Sacred Heart University

SHU Library Archives

The experiences and activities of those who participated in making the idea of Sacred Heart University a viable institution of higher education constitute the stories behind the story. Their superhuman efforts and dedication, their willingness to give unselfishly of themselves and go to the added mile, give credence to the fact that people make institutions.

In order to record this human side of the history, interviews were held with the original administrators, apart from President Conley, original members of the faculty who were available and one of the first students and class officers (from Foreword).

A Study Of Open Space Schools, Carol Ormiston Jan 1973

A Study Of Open Space Schools, Carol Ormiston

Dissertations and Theses

By the spring of 1972 Beaverton School District had five open space schools in operation and three others under construction. These schools are built without separate, individual classrooms. Space is more flexible and can be used in a number of ways. Open space buildings provide the setting for a new kind of teaching and learning process.

Within the Beaverton School District, the Department of Administrative Services was requested to provide information regarding the operation of the open space teaching and learning process. As a result a plan was developed for a descriptive study of some aspects of open space as …
