Emotional Intelligence Training In Physician Assistant Education: Comparing Workshops Alone To Workshops Plus Coaching, Mickey Lebowitz, William Holmes
Emotional Intelligence Training In Physician Assistant Education: Comparing Workshops Alone To Workshops Plus Coaching, Mickey Lebowitz, William Holmes
Innovations in Health Sciences Education Journal
Introduction
Clinicians and health care students with higher emotional intelligence (EQ) are more likely to experience positive outcomes for themselves and their patients. Given these benefits and EQ’s learnability, teaching EQ to health care students has been suggested. Therefore, we aimed to assess the impact of workshops combined with coaching (W+C) relative to workshops only (WO) on PA students’ EQ, and, as an outcome measure, their feelings of success. Additionally, we investigated whether these impacts depend on students’ baseline EQ.
Method
Using the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Inventory, we retrospectively tracked first- and second-year changes in EQ and success scores …
Cripping The Border – Acompañamiento As Access: An Ethnographic Case Study Of Transborder Youth With Disabilities, Marco O. Amaral
Cripping The Border – Acompañamiento As Access: An Ethnographic Case Study Of Transborder Youth With Disabilities, Marco O. Amaral
Dissertations
The U.S.-Mexico border is a historical, geopolitical site of intense militarization where colonial logics of "othering" converge to marginalize disabled transborder youth. While transborder studies have expanded, students with disabilities remain relegated to the "void" and contained by educational systems that prioritize surveillance over access. Grounded in Sepúlveda’s (2011) acompañamiento and Transborder DisCrit, this ethnographic case study examines the lived experiences of both students and their families who cross the border daily to attend school in the U.S. It frames these journeys not as mere commutes, but as acts of defiance within the broader disability rights movement.

From Vision To Impact: Building A Sustainable Open-Access Peer Reviewed Medical Journal, Darshana T. Shah Phd
All Things Open
The Marshall Journal of Medicine (MJM) was created to strengthen scholarly exchange, clinical innovation, and health professions education in rural Appalachia while making that work openly accessible to readers worldwide. As West Virginia’s first fully open‑access, online, peer‑reviewed medical journal, MJM illustrates how a mission‑driven publishing effort can evolve from an initial idea into lasting scholarly infrastructure—and how publication activity can translate into measurable impact.
MJM’s development centered on three strategic pillars:
- a clearly articulated scope focused on clinically relevant and educationally innovative scholarship
- rigorous peer‑review and editorial practices that ensure credibility and quality
- operational partnerships—especially with academic …
Humanizing Engineering For Preservice Elementary Teachers Through Sustainable Engineering Stories, Jeffrey D. Radloff, Madison M. Morris, Jacob Pleasants
Humanizing Engineering For Preservice Elementary Teachers Through Sustainable Engineering Stories, Jeffrey D. Radloff, Madison M. Morris, Jacob Pleasants
Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research (J-PEER)
Meeting the goals of US K–12 science education reform requires that preservice elementary teachers (PSTs) understand engineering as a specialized discipline and a human endeavor that addresses real-world issues. Yet in their formal education, few PSTs receive opportunities to learn about the humanistic dimensions of engineering: engineers’ personal values and motivations, the sociocultural nature of engineering work, and the societal significance of engineering. Storytelling about engineering offers a practical way to give PSTs access to these ideas. This study examines the impacts of integrating storytelling about engineering in a science methods course for future elementary school teachers. Over a two-year …

New Directions In Gear Up Stem Camps: How Activity Design Shapes Socio-Emotional And Stem Outcomes, Lilly Rogers
ATU Scholars Symposium
This mixed-methods study examined the impact of GEAR UP week-long middle-school STEM summer camp on students’ socio-emotional learning (SEL) and STEM engagement. Using pre- and post-intervention surveys (N = 45), an exploratory factor analysis identified two underlying competency dimensions: Socio-Emotional Skills and STEM Engagement & Spatial Skills. A repeated-measures MANOVA revealed a significant overall time effect; however, growth occurred only in Socio-Emotional Skills, which increased with a large effect size, F(1,44) = 29.28, p < .001, partial η² = .400, while STEM Engagement showed no significant change, F(1,44) = 0.89, p = .350
To understand this divergence, we analyzed 371 reflective journal entries from 42 students using thematic analysis. Eleven themes emerged, revealing that SEL gains were driven by …

Before The War: The Impact Of Minority Stress On Palestinian Muslim Women In The United States, Rimah Jaber
Education Student Dissertations
This study explored the lived experiences of first- and second-generation Palestinian Muslim women (PMW) living in the US. Participants were 11 women between the ages of 20 and 33 from various regions across the country. The methodology included a phenomenological approach within a constructivist–interpretivist paradigm to conduct one-on-one, semistructured interviews. Participants shared their stories during online interviews, which were recorded and transcribed before data analysis. Guided by the embodied intersectionality framework and minority stress theory, the analysis yielded two superordinate themes with two subthemes each: (a) perceived discrimination (subthemes: stressors of living in the diaspora and erasure and disclosure of …

In Fall 2025 I completed my Interdisciplinary Leadership doctoral capstone, "Perceptions of Implementation from Higher Education Participants in Online Course Design Professional Development". The purpose was to determine if and to what degree transference had taken place from training to regular practice by instructors. Twelve GovState faculty participated in Quality Matters workshops on online teaching best practices facilitated from March 2021 to June 2023. Interviews with study participants revealed common themes and were compared to training responses and usage in Blackboard courses to determine transference. Results showed training was applied to regular practice in not only online courses but other …

The CHI was a great learning experience for FHSU students. Job shadowing at this facility allowed us to interact with people that were trying to remain active or also recover cardiac, neurological or other physical injuries. The CHI provided opportunities for a lot of people to work out who otherwise would have a sedentary lifestyle. CHI had 4 different programs that let people workout at their own pace, depending on their capabilities. Other than recovering from injuries, the CHI gave these individuals an opportunity to be part of a community where they could …
