Nature-based learning has become more popular in the United States since COVID-19, and incorporating nature-based learning including books about the natural world aligns with children’s natural curiosity, and desire to actively explore through play. Indeed, nature-based learning has many benefits ranging from supporting child development, promoting social-emotional well-being, and creating an inclusive learning environment for multilingual students. Reading nature-based literature and providing access to nature-based literature is a holistic methodology teachers should include in their classroom. This paper highlights the benefits of nature-based learning and provides a variety of topics and resources teacher can utilize.

This article presents a community engaged learning experience and its instructional implications for TESOL. The instructional cultures established in policies and practices that dictate college students’ engagement with the “real world” are dependent upon the ways they respond to and translate existing territories in social, cultural, political, and linguistic interactions with multilingual learners and communities. Students who feel connected to their school experience better academic performance, social competence, and mental health. English Language Learners (ELL) face unique challenges to school connectedness compared to their English-speaking peers. In this study, we explored the relationship between school connectedness and well-being for 205 racial minority ELL students. ELL students’ perceived school belonging was a significant predictor of well-being. We discuss implications for school counselors, including specific strategies for increasing ELL students’ school connectedness.

In US schools, multilingual learners (MLs) are expected to meet the same rigorous disciplinary standards as their English-speaking peers while also developing proficiency in English. This article demonstrates how sustained reading, as part of the Teaching and Learning Cycle, can support MLs' access to disciplinary literacy through the explicit attention to language features. Grounded on the Language-based Approach to Content Instruction (LACI), the article presents a classroom vignette from a 5th-grade social studies lesson in which MLs dissected a mentor text. Background. Living kidney donor transplantation provides recipients with kidney failure with an excellent graft function and survival. Donation of a kidney entails a thorough medical and psychosocial evaluation. Obesity is an increasingly prevalent medical condition and a known risk factor for the development of chronic kidney disease post-donation. Accepting overweight and obese individuals as living kidney donors remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to review the impact of obesity on the determination of candidates for living kidney donation at a single transplant center.

Background. Hand knob strokes present with unilateral motor weakness of the hand, distal arm, or a particular group of fingers with or without paresthesia. This condition can easily be misdiagnosed as a peripheral mononeuropathy without a high level of suspicion and a thorough history and physical exam. We present a case of hand knob stroke that mimicked an ulnar mononeuropathy.

This performance autoethnography inhabits the pedagogical encounter between a North African Muslim woman in hijab teaching college-level Arabic and an African American Muslim student whose Islam traveled a different racial and geographic history. Team teaching in online higher education courses provides an innovative approach to meeting the needs of students and enhancing the teaching experiences of instructors. In this study, two instructors collaborated to team teach a course in an online doctoral program; this article shares their experiences.
