Jurnal Kajian Bimbingan dan Konseling
Pre-service teachers with disabilities face career transitions shaped by personal aspirations, accessibility barriers, stigma, and limited role models. In Indonesia, little is known about how they build career readiness for teaching within inclusive unequal educational contexts. This study explores the career adaptability of pre-service teachers with disabilities in Indonesia. Grounded in Career Construction Theory, it examines concern, control, curiosity, and confidence, while extending the framework by considering resilience and flexibility as relevant dimensions. A qualitative phenomenological design was used. Twenty-five students with disabilities enrolled in Primary School Teacher Education and Special Education programs at an Indonesian university participated in semi-structured …

Humanizing Engineering For Preservice Elementary Teachers Through Sustainable Engineering Stories, Jeffrey D. Radloff, Madison M. Morris, Jacob Pleasants
Journal of Pre-College Engineering Education Research (J-PEER)
Meeting the goals of US K–12 science education reform requires that preservice elementary teachers (PSTs) understand engineering as a specialized discipline and a human endeavor that addresses real-world issues. Yet in their formal education, few PSTs receive opportunities to learn about the humanistic dimensions of engineering: engineers’ personal values and motivations, the sociocultural nature of engineering work, and the societal significance of engineering. Storytelling about engineering offers a practical way to give PSTs access to these ideas. This study examines the impacts of integrating storytelling about engineering in a science methods course for future elementary school teachers. Over a two-year …

New Directions In Gear Up Stem Camps: How Activity Design Shapes Socio-Emotional And Stem Outcomes, Lilly Rogers
ATU Scholars Symposium
This mixed-methods study examined the impact of GEAR UP week-long middle-school STEM summer camp on students’ socio-emotional learning (SEL) and STEM engagement. Using pre- and post-intervention surveys (N = 45), an exploratory factor analysis identified two underlying competency dimensions: Socio-Emotional Skills and STEM Engagement & Spatial Skills. A repeated-measures MANOVA revealed a significant overall time effect; however, growth occurred only in Socio-Emotional Skills, which increased with a large effect size, F(1,44) = 29.28, p < .001, partial η² = .400, while STEM Engagement showed no significant change, F(1,44) = 0.89, p = .350
To understand this divergence, we analyzed 371 reflective journal entries from 42 students using thematic analysis. Eleven themes emerged, revealing that SEL gains were driven by …

The Role Of Mentorship: The Lived Experience Of Black Women In Higher Education Leadership, Joseph Fahrney
The Role Of Mentorship: The Lived Experience Of Black Women In Higher Education Leadership, Joseph Fahrney
JWU Dissertations & Theses
The persistent underrepresentation of Black women in higher education leadership raises important questions about how institutional environments shape leadership advancement, belonging, and sustainability. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the role of mentorship in the lived experiences of Black women leaders in higher education in shaping leadership trajectories, professional development, and institutional engagement. Participants included senior leaders serving in roles such as president, vice president, chief officer, and other executive administrative positions across higher education institutions. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants (N=17), generating narrative data reflecting their experiences navigating leadership environments and mentorship relationships. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis …
Hands-On Learning And Design Thinking In Secondary Design And Technology Education, Carol K. Puddicombe
Hands-On Learning And Design Thinking In Secondary Design And Technology Education, Carol K. Puddicombe
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Design and Technology (D&T) education occupies a distinctive position within the secondary curriculum through its historical emphasis on designing, making, and evaluating tangible artefacts. Drawing on a doctoral study, this article examines how the secondary school experiences of ten pre-service D&T teachers in Western Australia shaped their engagement with the subject. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, data were generated through in-depth interviews. Analysis revealed three interrelated themes: the power of practical engagement, experiences of success in the workshop, and limitations in opportunities for explicit design thinking. Findings indicate that hands-on, workshop-based learning played an important role in fostering confidence, motivation, and …

Paul English Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institute Publications
This workshop introduces the concept of applied large language models (LLMs), focusing on how users can move from simple prompt-based interaction to building structured, repeatable AI-driven workflows. Participants explore how AI enables faster prototyping, lowers barriers to entry, and expands who can participate in building technology. Through a hands-on demonstration, attendees learn how to transform raw inputs into meaningful outputs such as summaries, key concepts, and actionable steps. The session emphasizes the importance of clear problem definition, iterative refinement, and critical evaluation when working with AI systems.

Approach To Physics Education Using Local Ai With Rag For Open Educational Materials Generation, Dmitriy Beznosko
All Things Open
The new tool that starts to enter all parts of our life is AI – and it enters education as well. There are two standing large concerns with using AI for education – the safety of students’ data and the AI missing specific knowledge about the given class. The approach of using the Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) provides the user data to the locally run LLM model (using Ollama framework, a free and open-source tool that allows you to run large language models locally on your system) as a context for the generation of the OER materials. As this AI …

Assessing The Effects Of Different Exercise Modalities On Postpartum Depression, Grace Mcmillan
Assessing The Effects Of Different Exercise Modalities On Postpartum Depression, Grace Mcmillan
Honors Capstones
Postpartum depression is a mental health condition that affects approximately 1 out of 8 women, nationally, after birth. The purpose of this study is to assess how different exercise modes can impact the lives of mothers suffering from postpartum depression. To conduct this research, there will be a review of current literature and quantitative data on postpartum depression and exercise. This review will explore how cardio, flexibility, and resistance training can help prevent or reduce the symptoms of postpartum depression. This review will analyze each mode and how they positively benefit the mother's mood as well as how it can …
