Tensions Between Catholic Identity And Academic Achievement: Roles Of Catholic School Leaders In Southeastern Nigeria, Augustina Ngozi Mbata Sep 2024

Tensions Between Catholic Identity And Academic Achievement: Roles Of Catholic School Leaders In Southeastern Nigeria, Augustina Ngozi Mbata

Dissertations

Despite the series of documents by the sacred ecumenical council and replete research enumerating the two-dimensional focus of Catholic schools: faith and academics and its collaborative nature, Nigerian (southeast) Catholic primary and secondary schools are continually experiencing activities of disharmony between Catholic identity and students' academic achievements. To better understand the nature of disharmony and its causes from the perspectives of leaders, teachers, and parents, this study examines the major challenges that face the representation and teaching of Catholic identity and the students’ academic achievement in the Catholic schools of southeastern Nigeria. While the purpose is critical to the student’s …

Differences In Algebra I End-Of-Course Exam Performance Of African-American Girls As A Function Of Their Economic Status: A Texas, Multiyear Analysis, Latonia Amerson, Cynthia Martinez-Garcia, John R. Slate

School Leadership Review

The extent to which differences were present for African American girls as a function of their economic status in their performance on the Texas state-mandated Algebra I End-of-Course exam was examined. Specifically addressed was the extent to which African American girls differed in their performance on three Grade Level performance standards: Approaches Grade Level, Meets Grade Level, and Masters Grade Level. Inferential statistical analyses of Texas statewide data revealed that statistically significantly lower percentages of African American girls who were economically disadvantaged met the three Grade Level standards than African American girls who were not in poverty. Implications and recommendations …

The Quadruple Helix Of Strategic Alliances And Its Application For Community Development In Las Acequias De Atrisco, Jorge Garcia Sep 2024

The Quadruple Helix Of Strategic Alliances And Its Application For Community Development In Las Acequias De Atrisco, Jorge Garcia

Regeneración: A Xicanacimiento Studies Journal

In today’s society, the development of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) is imminent yet, large segments of the world remain marginalized. I contend that peer-to-peer and inter-institutional networks can be used to connect local with global systems to close this divide. Using today’s virtual and digital technologies the gap can be bridged using collaboration platforms using different knowledge systems that do not simply replicate the same information. The suggested model represents forming strategic alliances for information sharing and collaboration to empower and support local knowledge systems. The examples discussed show our efforts toward an inclusive approach with communities in full partnership, …

In Kinship With The World: Developing A Novel Instrument To Assess Human-Nature Relational Values, Kimberly Post Sep 2024

In Kinship With The World: Developing A Novel Instrument To Assess Human-Nature Relational Values, Kimberly Post

Educational Studies Dissertations

In the nascent field of human-nature relational values, there is a growing body of literature suggesting their transformative potential in sustainability education. The ability to analytically distinguish relational values from other valuations can both inform pedagogical approaches and help to identify how people understand and value their relationships with the living and more-than-living biospheric inhabitants. To address this need, an overarching question was posited: Can a relational values-specific assessment instrument be designed and validated for use in post-secondary sustainability education? Through a survey of the literature, thematic analysis of validated human-nature connection instruments, and multi-method qualitative research, a pilot instrument …

Embracing The Courage To Teach: Undoing The Grade, J. C. Sheen, Gavin Munson, Julie Stevens, Sarah Tulane, Kevin Young

Empowering Teaching Excellence Conference

In the spirit of "The Courage to Teach," our panel will discuss our experiences with alternative approaches to student assessment that challenge the standard grading practices and their impact on learning environments. We will explore our reasons behind "undoing the grade" and our approaches to student assessment that empower both educators and learners. By undoing the traditional grading paradigm, we aim to cultivate a culture of authentic learning, where students are motivated by curiosity and growth rather than fear of evaluation.

Mobile Devices As An Instructional Tool To Promote Teachers’ Metacognition: Insights From Pakistani Teachers, Zainab Shazadi Javed Ms, Fatima Javed Ms, Mehvish Mufti Ms

The Qualitative Report

The use of mobile phones as an instructional tool by teachers is not yet widespread, and there is a need to enhance the literature on how this experience affects their metacognition. While existing literature focuses on students' experiences, little is known about the experiences of teachers. This qualitative study utilized an interpretative phenomenological analysis approach to examine the experiences of primary and secondary school teachers in Karachi, Pakistan, who used mobile devices for teaching online during the COVID-19 pandemic for at least 12 weeks. Nine participants were interviewed to collect data, and two themes emerged from the research: "Employed Metacognition …

An Integral Approach To Philosophy Of Nature, Carol Richardson Sep 2024

An Integral Approach To Philosophy Of Nature, Carol Richardson

Journal of Conscious Evolution

Abstract

Quantum physicists and quantum biologists enjoy a mathematically-inspired romance with the wonders of nature at the quantum level. Recognizing the romance of mathematics and the quantum-to-cosmic level relational energetics of Nature can lead to a more integral, romantic, and even embodied phenomenology of the intelligence inherent within Nature’s relational and embodied energies. Approaching this quantum nature of Nature from the more romantic, wholistic views of the right hemisphere of the brain, rather than from the fragmenting views of the left hemisphere of the brain, one can begin to discover the self-organizing abilities of the energies of Nature at all …

Student Engagement In The Asynchronous Learning Model: A Qualitative Study Of K-5 Arkansas Public School Caregiver Perspectives, Angela Maize

Student Theses and Dissertations

In 2019, a coronavirus strand, SARS-CoV-2, caused a global pandemic of respiratory illness, also referred to as the coronavirus (Covid-19). The U.S. government implemented massive school closures as a non-pharmaceutical intervention to mitigate the spread of the virus. The abrupt pivot to the asynchronous learning model resulted in low levels of engagement for many students. As a result of the pivot, students were expected to return to onsite instruction with a fraction of the learning gains, compared to a pre-pandemic school year. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore caregiver perspectives of the level of engagement exhibited …

Jingle’ And ‘Jangle’ Fallacies Sep 2024

Jingle’ And ‘Jangle’ Fallacies

The International Journal of Ecopsychology (IJE)

Systematic approaches (theories and applications) from early founders of the social sciences and education, even in their early history, paid meticulous attention to the many pitfalls encountered when neglecting to clarify and specify what one means when using words which imply “constructs” and their purported cause and effect dynamics. ‘Jingle’ and ‘jangle’ fallacies, when finally spotted and addressed, turn out to be the naiveté of a person not understanding the terms/words they were using. They failed to notice, according to Thorndike and Woodworth that words are (1901), “… mythological, not real entities. The words do not mean any existing fact …
