Dual Leadership In Chinese Schools Challenges Executive Principalships As Best Fit For 21st Century Educational Development, Christine Cunningham, Wei Zhang, Michelle Striepe, David Rhodes
Dual Leadership In Chinese Schools Challenges Executive Principalships As Best Fit For 21st Century Educational Development, Christine Cunningham, Wei Zhang, Michelle Striepe, David Rhodes
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This paper examines China's dual leadership model and compares it with the more traditional (western) single leader model. It addresses an important question in educational leadership: whether singular school leadership or a dual leadership is better? It is innovative as it mobilised an international research team to collect data from 115 Chinese school leaders and compare China's dual leadership with faith-based schools in other contexts. Given so much now is written about distributed leadership within and across schools, this paper offers valuable insights, especially for readers interested in the educational leadership practices of a rising global power.

In-Service Teacher Professional Learning In Australia: Lessons Learnt From Covid-19, Damian Maher Phd
International Journal for Research in Education
Abstract:
Professional Learning (PL) for Australian teachers is a crucial and integral aspect of their practice and is mandated under Australian legislation. This article briefly describes PL in Australia and outlines the importance of teacher PL, setting out ways it can be undertaken in different jurisdictions around Australia. The focus then moves to discussion on ways in which PL was impacted during 2020-2021 as result of COVID-19. In particular, online PL is examined indicating that, for teachers in Australia, the move to online teaching and PL was sudden and was something teachers were not prepared for. Possible futures are …

A Study Of Soteriology: A Commentary, Course, And Conclusion Of Brown’S Creek Baptist Church’S Soteriological Beliefs, David Shawn Head
A Study Of Soteriology: A Commentary, Course, And Conclusion Of Brown’S Creek Baptist Church’S Soteriological Beliefs, David Shawn Head
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This thesis identifies a church’s lack of theological awareness of biblical soteriology, investigates the literature for solutions to the ministerial problem, implements the review of literature into a course with curriculum, and the influences on the congregation’s beliefs. The church was a hodgepodge of soteriological beliefs. More specifically, the congregants purported to believe in Calvinism, Arminianism, and Semi-Pelagianism but could not accurately define, adequately describe, or appropriately defend said beliefs. A review of literature led this student to be selective of the soteriological literature known to exist. Simply, the ministerial problem was not because of a lack of literature but …

International Service Learning: Benefits, Challenges And Experiences Of Pre-Service Teachers, Dianne Chambers, Shane Lavery
Education Papers and Journal Articles
This study explores the experiences and perceptions of 13 Australian early childhood, primary and secondary pre-service teachers who undertook a two-week international service-learning immersion in an educational setting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Qualitative data were collected pre-immersion through an anonymous questionnaire, and post-immersion through reflective journals/reports and focus group interviews. Results suggest that benefits included academic development and cross-cultural learning. Challenges involved language difficulties and coming to terms with the poverty and history of Cambodia. The participants indicated that the immersion was extremely relevant to them, both professionally and personally. Finally, cultural experiences encouraged the participants to generate cultural knowledge …

Writing Teachers’ Preparation, Perceptions And Support: Qualitative Case Study, Rori Martello
Writing Teachers’ Preparation, Perceptions And Support: Qualitative Case Study, Rori Martello
Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative study investigated teachers’ perceptions of their own writing abilities and processes, the adequacy of their pre-service teacher preparation, and the efficacy of in-service, school system and school building-level support, and how each of these components affected the educator’s aptitude to teach students in grade six through eight how to write effectively. The embedded multiple case study design examined one parochial school system located in suburban New York with middle school teachers as the different cases. A qualitative survey was the research method applied. Subsequently, individual interviews were conducted to acquire more specific information from teachers with different educational …

Ways Of Orienting Secondary Schools To Becoming Learning Communities, Jennifer Bryce
Lifelong learning
This paper focuses on work carried out over the past two years at the Australian Council for Educational Research for a project entitled: Improving the Foundations for Lifelong Learning in Secondary Schools. Lifelong learning at secondary school level in particular is concerned with keeping students engaged in learning at school and developing in students those characteristics that will make learning an integral part of their lives when they leave school. To a large extent this involves developing the idea of schools as learning communities. The research is underpinned by an exploration of issues through the extensive literature on lifelong learning …

An Analysis Of The Effectiveness And Impact Of The Provision Of Mindfulness, Emotional Intelligence And Work Readiness Modules To Irish Third Level Students, Wyndham Chalmers
Other Resources
Recently, there has been an emphasis on social-emotional learning (SEL) in educational settings and the role this may play in an individuals’ later life outcomes as well as their ability to manage stress and express and manage emotion in adaptive ways (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL), 2020). Recent research also supports a positive correlation between emotional intelligence (EI) and the development of interpersonal skills, academic attainment, memory and problem-solving skills (Boyatzis & Saatcioglu, 2008). Further research emphasises the role of emotional competencies in sustaining employment and placement in higher education (Carthy et al., 2013; Murphy, 2015). As …

Educators’ Perception Of Their Psychosocial Support Of Elementary Students In Gabon, Africa, Michel Ikamba
Educators’ Perception Of Their Psychosocial Support Of Elementary Students In Gabon, Africa, Michel Ikamba
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Although educators internationally have often provided care to vulnerable students who struggle to meet the needs of nutrition, health, protection, and access to essential social services, no formal social systems exist in Gabon to aid educators who work with these students. In the absence of relevant local research and drawing on Dewey’s theory of progressive education as a conceptual model, this basic qualitative study asked about educators’ perceptions in limited resource elementary schools in Gabon of the social needs and strategies employed with students who demonstrated signs of disengagement and alienation. Qualitative data collection included semi-structured recorded interviews with 12 …

Rethinking The Hispanic Teacher Shortage: Dual Language Schools As Identity-Affirming Organizations, Elena Sada, Katie Ward
Rethinking The Hispanic Teacher Shortage: Dual Language Schools As Identity-Affirming Organizations, Elena Sada, Katie Ward
Journal of Catholic Education
Research has established the connection between the academic success of culturally and linguistically diverse students, and their schools’ ability to recruit and retain teachers that reflect such diversity (Shirrell et al., 2019). Studies have also highlighted the criticality of the students’ home language use as a way to enhance academic growth and develop their sociocultural competence and well-being (Feinauer & Howard, 2014). There is no research, however, addressing the differences between the experiences of Hispanic teachers in bilingual Catholic education compared to those in monolingual English Catholic education. This article highlights the differences captured by a recent study, and discusses …

Impacts Of Social-Emotional Learning Via A Daily Writing Reflection In The Secondary Classroom, Angie Peterson
Dissertations, Theses, and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine a time effective and subject area friendly way to address students’ social-emotional needs as a means to alleviate stress, communicate with teachers, and improve their overall wellbeing. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many unforeseen or unaddressed repercussions that educators will continue to be dealing with as schools return to traditional formats or as they adjust to new ones. What impact can the use of daily journal writing have for high school students as an immediate and potentially long-term social-emotional learning or competency technique?
This study was …

Group Counseling Courses In Cacrep-Accredited Programs: A National Survey, Yiying Xiong, Huan-Tang Lu
Group Counseling Courses In Cacrep-Accredited Programs: A National Survey, Yiying Xiong, Huan-Tang Lu
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
We surveyed 113 counselor educators to understand the structure of group counseling courses in CACREP-accredited programs and their self-reflections of teaching group counseling courses. Our focus included instructor characteristics, course content (didactic versus experiential), evaluation (content knowledge versus hands-on skills), supervision, and teaching strategies. The responses were a heterogeneous composition of instructor background, program structure, curriculum, and the setup of the experiential component. The comparison with the literature indicates a slight change, mainly in the use of technology and the experiential component, over the past decade. Based on the results, we identified the needs for future studies and made suggestions …
All God's Children: An Exploratory Study Of Factors To Promote Inclusion Of Autistic Children Within Local Church Congregations, David John Scott Quel
All God's Children: An Exploratory Study Of Factors To Promote Inclusion Of Autistic Children Within Local Church Congregations, David John Scott Quel
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand the gap that exists within the literature concerning the parent’s perspective for incorporating Autistic individuals into the life of the church. The theory guiding this study is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. In Maslow’s hierarchy, there are five level of needs. These areas are physical needs, security needs, love and belonging, esteem needs and self-actualization. These are the most basic needs whether someone is disabled, has special needs, or has no problems at all. The problem remains, far too often, those individuals who are on the Autistic spectrum are looked at as …
Bullying Victimization In Middle Schools: A Quantitative Correlational Study, Corey Centwane Calhoun Sr.
Bullying Victimization In Middle Schools: A Quantitative Correlational Study, Corey Centwane Calhoun Sr.
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Bullying victimization is a very common, complex and potentially damaging form of violence among children and adolescents. Bullying is defined as unwanted, aggressive behavior, which involves a real or perceived social power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (therefore, the definition excludes occasional or minor incidents). Bullying victimization in schools is not only alarming, but it has now become a persuasive concern, one that should be evaluated closely by educators, parents, and policymakers in all school systems. In public schools, 1 in 10 reports at least a case of serious violent crime, …

Journal of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Education
In response to challenges faced by middle and high school educators during the COVID-19 pandemic, a study was conducted in the Spring of 2021 involving 33 early-career mathematics teachers and eight supervising school principals in the State of California. These participants completed detailed surveys which provided demographic information, as well as perceptions of support, efficacy and job satisfaction. Findings show a variety of associations among teacher perceptions of support and their efficacy and job satisfaction in the face of challenging circumstances. As it related to principal support and recognition, principal participants expressed confidence in their ability to support teachers as …
A Good Life: Palliative Care In The World Of Dementia, Nicola Farmer
A Good Life: Palliative Care In The World Of Dementia, Nicola Farmer
Journal of Interdisciplinary Graduate Research
Objective: The World Health Organization (2019) reports that dementia is the seventh leading cause of death with an estimated 50 million people worldwide with this disease. In the United States out of one and a half million Medicare patients on hospice in 2016, only 18% had dementia (The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, 2017). McAteer and Wellbery (2013) identified that while referrals to services seem to be on the rise, many are not made until the patient is close to death in the last weeks of an illness. The purpose of this project was to review the literature to …
The Experiences Of Lgbtq Faculty And Staff At A Diocesan Catholic University, Mark Fabbi
The Experiences Of Lgbtq Faculty And Staff At A Diocesan Catholic University, Mark Fabbi
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
As the world continues to become more accepting of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people, is this experience similar on a diocesan Catholic campus in the United States? A diocesan Catholic institution is often referred to as an arm of the Catholic Church, often holding a view against same sex marriage and the LGBTQ community. However, the tide may be changing, with a more accepting Catholic church on the horizon. Dillon’s theory (2011) explains how sexual identity manifests itself and identifies it as a global process. In Dillon’s theory, there are two factors to individual identity development: social …
