Project Based Learning For Chronically Absent Students, Amy Lynch
Project Based Learning For Chronically Absent Students, Amy Lynch
School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Projects
Research has shown that students who are chronically absent from school in the elementary years are far more likely to underperform academically, struggle socially and drop out of high school. Project based learning (PBL) is a process in which students and teachers engage in creation, discussion, and reflection. Teachers guide while students inquire independently and with peers. Learning is acquired through questioning, choice and action (Helle et al., 2006). Project based learning provides the opportunity for teachers to integrate social studies, science, reading, writing, math, and social and emotional skills over several weeks, ultimately creating a project that represents the …
The Impact Of Nature Deficit On Creating Learning Spaces For Children, Kirsten Bergren
The Impact Of Nature Deficit On Creating Learning Spaces For Children, Kirsten Bergren
School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Projects
Nature deficit disorder is a problem because it causes a disconnect between people and the environment. Adults have their own experiences with nature deficit disorder and that is impacting their ability to design nature rich environments for children. Recognizing their own experiences can help them to create and enrich the learning environment of their students. This project aims to decrease nature deficit disorder and stress and increase overall health and wellness.

Mcnair Scholars Research Journal Volume Xv, St. Mary's University
McNair Scholars Research Journal
This is the fifteenth journal for the McNair Scholars Program at St. Mary's University.
"Research is the process to discover new knowledge and, arguably, the major endeavor associated with earning a doctoral degree. While undergraduates are busy acquiring a foundation in their specific disciplines, all are in some measure focusing on the history of those areas- studying what is already known. Summer research is an opportunity for McNair Scholars to engage in the work that will comprise a majority of their doctoral experience- exploring new topics, collecting data, and building their disciplines. One might say that after many years of …

Filling The Third Circle With Interdisciplinary Lesson Planning: A Case Study Of Pre-Service Teachers, Garrett Steede, Rebecca D. Swenson, Troy D. Mckay
Journal of Human Sciences and Extension
The three-circle model of agricultural education focuses on the importance of in-class instruction, supervised agricultural experiences, and FFA involvement. The agricultural communications career pathway is available to students through agricultural communications supervised agricultural experiences (SAE) programs and career development events within FFA. However, specific curriculum that teaches agricultural communications in the classroom is not readily available. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to examine the interdisciplinary lesson planning and integration process of pre-service teachers with focus on opportunities and limitations to teaching communication in the agriculture, food, and natural resources (AFNR) curriculum. In this case study, four pre-service …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Introduction: This systematic review aims to examine the effects of the CYP1A2 −163C>A and ADORA2A 1976T>C polymorphism on physiological effects and performance relative to caffeine consumption. Material and Methods: In this study, electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science Core Collection, Korean Journal Database, Russian Science Citation Index, SciELO Citation Index, Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest Dissertations & Thesis Global and EBSCO were searched. Results: The results highlight that individuals with the TT or CT/CC genotype can have differences in caffeine consumption, and C carriers may have increases in the maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max). The AA or AC/CC …

Defining Health Care Marketing: A Review Of Scholarly And Other Textual Sources, Gary Daniel Futrell
Journal of Applied Marketing Theory
A review of scholarly works and leading textbooks published for health care marketing courses shows that they do not adequately define the disciple. This paper promotes the use of the two-word form of health care and defines health care marketing as the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, & exchanging any good, service, or idea; performed to restore, maintain, or enhance the well-being of an individual or population. This paper fills a gap in the literature by providing linguistic and practical justification for using the two-word form of health care and connects the modern wellness paradigm …

The Relationship Of The Grip Strength Of The Aiming Arm To Weight, Some Special Characteristics Physical Abilities, And The Numerical Level Of The Effectiveness Of The Shot Put And The Javelin Throwing For Novice Students, Amal Suleiman Saleh Alzoubi
Journal of the Association of Arab Universities for Research in Higher Education مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للبحوث في التعليم العالي
The study aimed to identify the relationship of the grip strength of the aiming arm with weight, some special characteristics, physical capabilities, and the numerical level of the two events of shot put and javelin throwing among junior athletics students. The researcher used the descriptive approach to suit the nature of the study. Physical tests, special measurements and the distance of the digital performance level for the shot put and javelin actions were performed,The Results showed that there is a moderate correlation between grip strength and (arm length, upper arm circumference, and burst strength of the arms) and the absence …

The Potential Role Of Selected Body Composition Phenotypes In The Interpretation Of The Exercise-Induced Components Of The Insulin-Like Growth Factor Systems, Gökhan Umutlu, Nevzat Demirci
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Introduction: Increased adiposity leads to impaired physiologic growth hormone secretion and low and high body mass index (BMI) values increase health risks. However, BMI only measures results in variations in fat-free mass (FFM), fat-free mass index (FFMI), normalized fat-free mass index (NFMI), and body fat mass (BFM). This study evaluated the insulin-like growth factor system responses to the given exercise and their interaction with the changes in BMI, FFM, FFMI, and NFFMI in healthy male participants. Material and methods: A randomized controlled trial with a parallel groups study design was used. Thirty healthy male participants (age: 21.33 ±1.24 years) were …

Body Composition And Psychophysical Well-Being Of Women Practicing Yoga, Aneta Omelan, Justyna Wiśniewska, Robert Podstawski
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Introduction: This study characterized yoga as a form of free-time physical activity by analyzing and evaluating the body composition of women who regularly practice yoga, and by describing the effect of yoga on their psychophysical health. Material and Methods: The study involved 94 women: 56 yoga practitioners and 38 Zumba participants. The subjects were surveyed with a questionnaire to elicit information about their socioeconomic status. Body composition was determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis. Differences were assessed with two-tailed chi-square tests and Student’s t-tests. Results: The vast majority of the participants (89%) felt a positive influence of yoga on their mental …

Relationship Between Lower Limb Power Output, Sprint And Change Of Direction Performance In Soccer Players., Monika Papla, Agata Latocha, Wojciech Grzyb, Artur Gołaś
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Introduction: Although soccer matches require players to perform repetitive power-related abilities, the impact of lower-body strength and power asymmetry on sprint and change of direction (COD) performance receives little attention. Therefore, this study aimed to establish the relationship between lower limb power, sprint, and change of direction (COD) performance. In addition, the relationship between lower limb power asymmetry and the above mentioned running tests was determined. Material and Methods: Twenty-four male soccer players from First Polish League (age = 24.8 ±8.2 years, body mass = 77.4 ±16.9kg, body height=179.5 ±14.5cm, soccer training experience = 10 ± 1.5years) took part in …
