Rock Melons Are Popular, H. M. Gloster Jan 1952

Rock Melons Are Popular, H. M. Gloster

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3

Most Australians know and appreciate the rock melon or musk melon, which provides a popular and appetising addition to the menu during the summer months. This small melon, of which several varieties are grown in Western Australia, possesses an aromatic odour and flavour and is believed to have originated in Armenia many centuries ago. It is a popular dessert dish in America where it is known as the cantaloup, a name derived from Cantalupo, a former country seat of the Pope, near Rome. It was here that the rock melon was cultivated and improved many years ago.

The Effect Of The Use Of A Textbook As Compared With Supplemental Material In Teaching Biology, Wayne A. Stafford

Masters Theses

Chapter I

The Problem and Its Background

Biology in the Secondary School Curriculum

There is ample evidence, both direct and tacit, that biology has justified its place in the curriculum of the secondary school.

Among the direct evidence is that stated by Heiss, Obourn, and Hoffman1 as follows:

"On the Senior High School level, general biology is well established as a tenth grade course and is usually offered as an elective for each of three years. There is a considerable body of evidence available that seems to indicate that both general science and biology are going a long way …

Classroom Lighting, Walter Andrew Hotsko Aug 1950

Classroom Lighting, Walter Andrew Hotsko

All Master's Theses

The amount of light needed to produce the most efficient work is still subject to controversy. An adequate amount is recommended by everyone, but the definition of adequate varies as is evidenced in the amount of foot-candles suggested. But the emphasis now has shifted from "how much light should we have" to "how well can we see." Quantity and quality may now be regarded as the twin requirements for good lighting. This new look in school lighting can be summarized in two words--brightness control. It involves the control of brightnesses of everything in the visual field. This new emphasis not …

These objectives are the development of understandings of scientific principles, the development of scientific attitudes, and training in the skills of the scientific method.

The Evolution Of Educational Opportunities In Ness County, Kansas, Charles G. Wolfe

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

It is the problem of this thesis, insofar as possible, to set forth the data necessary in giving one a composite history of the evolution of educational opportunities in Ness County, Kansas. To accomplish this it was necessary to trace the story of the schools, as well as the community, from their very inception in Ness County until the present time. The period to be covered in this study dates back to 1878 when the first schools were established, to the present time.

The Growth Of The Educational Program In Kansas For Handicapped Children, Bill E. Mcarthur May 1950

The Growth Of The Educational Program In Kansas For Handicapped Children, Bill E. Mcarthur

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

Kansas, as well as the other forty-seven states, assisted by the Federal Government, has long recognized the need for the caring of the physical well-being of its children. To this end monetary appropriations and various agencies have been set up by legislation to provide food, shelter, and clothing for children whose parents could not provide these essentials. This has al.so been done for those who needed medical care and other physical corrections as well as for those whose mentality has not developed to an extent to permit them to make their way among normal people. However, “Man shall not live …

A Survey Of The Course Content In Sixteen State Courses Of Study In Health Education For The Secondary School, Ella Ida Cutkosky

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It was in the belief that a summary of the course content of state courses of study in health education would be of value and interest in the light of present trends in curriculum construction that this study was written.

The purpose of this investigation was to survey sixteen state courses of study compiled by their respective state education departments, to determine the details of content considered most essential in health education at the high school level.
