A Comparison Of Behavioral Self-Management, Bibliotherapy, And Social Pressure Treatment For Obese Adolescents, Carol Germain Mowbray Bruner

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Modification of eating behavior in obese adolescents was attempted through self-management training by bibliotherapy with and without personal therapist contact, and compared for weight loss effectiveness to an attention-placebo social pressure treatment, in lieu of a conventional untreated control group. These groups of girls (N=44; ages 11 – 18 years), at least 15% overweight, received, respectively: 1) 10 weekly self-management weight control didactic meetings in a group social pressure settings, plus an instruction manual providing lessons completed at home concerning self-control of eating behavior which were commented upon and returned by the therapist each week (Group 1M+SPo, instruction manual plus …

The Effects Of Sex Role Stereotyping On The Educational And Career Choices Of College Students, Zahra Habibi

The purposes of this study were : (1) to explore the differences in sex-role stereotyping between college students selecting traditionally sex-appropriate fields of study (Traditionals) and students selecting traditionally sex-inappropriate fields of study (Pioneers), and (2) to examine the differences between the two groups in terms of some specific factors assumed to be related to the development of sex-role stereotyping, i.e., specific parental characteristics, peer influence and school experiences.

Subjects of the study were 222 junior and senior students from 8 departments of the University of New Mexico. Four of them were assumed to be traditionally male dominated fields-namely, civil …

The recent Kellogg Life Span Learning Grant has focused national attention on Utah State University as a model for life span learning. Historically, Extension and at least the rudiments of life span learning, have been a part of Utah State University since its founding in 1888. In 1896, the State passed the Cazier Bill which appropriated $1,500 to conduct a Farmers Institute in each county at least once a year (Ricks 1938). Such activities were mostly conducted on an informal basis until 1911 when Luther M. Winsor, Instructor of Irrigation, was employed as county agent in the Uintah Basin. This …
