Saving Camelot? Nil And The Future Of Amateurism, William W. Berry Iii

This Article explores the future of intercollegiate athletics with a diminished (and perhaps even disappearing) amateurism model. Specifically, the Article argues that athletic conferences are in the best position to “save Camelot”—to preserve the aspects of college sports that make them beloved and distinctive—while at the same time realistically accounting for an evolving economic and legal landscape.

A 56-year-old woman with recurrent locally advanced breast cancer (rcT1a N3a M0, Luminal B) underwent curative intent treatment. Oral nutritional support (ONS), which was an immune-nutrition formula, was implemented to optimize her nutritional status and support treatment tolerance. This case highlights the importance of nutritional support in improving treatment outcomes for patients with recurrent breast cancer.

The physiological alterations in autonomic nervous system (ANS) function due to concussion are suggested to play a role in persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS). Currently, there are few objective and clinically feasible measurements to assess ANS vitality in patients experiencing PPCS. The following case study details an assessment and treatment protocol targeted towards regulating the ANS in an adolescent female suffering from PPCS one month after injury. Pre-intervention, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) used to assess perceived pain, anxiety, stress, and breathing function were administered as well as a physical assessment performed for breath function and vagus nerve integrity. Wasting is a form of malnutrition that is a significant concern globally, including in Indonesia. It has a detrimental impact on children's health, the quality of human resources, and a country's overall development. This study aims to examine the prevalence and risk factors associated with wasting in children aged 6–23 months in Indonesia. The study design is cross-sectional, utilizing secondary data from the 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey. Data collection was conducted throughout Indonesia between March and December 2022. The study examined the results of the civic writing project “Letter to the Next President of the Philippines,” where grades 9-10 students were asked to write a letter to the next president about social problems that they wanted their future leader to resolve and why. The study analyzed the students’ letter topics according to their school type and location, gender, and the students’ sources of information for their civic writing. The letters (N=322) were written by students from urban and rural, and public and private schools across the country in March-May 2022 before the Philippine presidential election. The increasing demand for animal protein to cater to the ever-growing human population has prompted the quest for alternative protein sources from insects. The field cricket Gyrllus bimaculatus, is one of the species of major interest, however, rearing of this species depends on the commercial chicken feed, which is expensive. Impact Of Helminth Co-Infections On Clinical Malaria Severity Among Febrile School-Age Children: A Study From Mvomero, Tanzania, Winifrida Kidima, Christopher Kisiringo, Deokary Matiya, Felista Mwingira

Helminths may influence clinical malaria severity. The current study examined the impact of helminth infections on malaria severity among children in Mvomero, Tanzania. This was a hospital-based cross-sectional study conducted from 2018-2019. Blood, stool and urine specimens from febrile subjects attending four health facilities in Mvomero were examined for malaria and helminth infection. Overall, 326 febrile children were enrolled. The range and mean ages were 5-17 and 10.2 years, respectively. Of 326 children, 46.8% (n = 153) had Plasmodium falciparum malaria, with prevalence being higher in males than females (p = 0.03). This quality improvement (QI) project investigates the incidence and management of malnutrition in pediatric oncology patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (SJCRH) from October 2022 to September 2023. The study aims to quantify malnutrition diagnoses made by registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and to identify patients at higher risk of severe malnutrition based on their primary cancer diagnosis and clinic location. A total of 161 patients were identified, resulting in 238 documented instances of malnutrition, classified as mild, moderate, or severe. The relocation of Indonesia's capital city is anticipated to promote inclusive economic growth while embracing cultural diversity. However, this transition may affect ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure patterns. The study investigated variations in UV exposure in the IKN region, focusing on urban development factors such as land use and population density that affect public health, sun protection, and skin cancer prevention. The research hypothesized that UV radiation is significantly correlated with these factors. BACKGROUND: The American Society of Clinical Nutrition recommends 37 to 44 h of undergraduate medical nutrition education. The Total Health Curriculum at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) contains 14 h of objective-based nutritional instruction. Of 319 children with invasive candidiasis, 67 (21%) transitioned from intravenous to enteral antifungal therapy. Eight (12%) transitioned back to intravenous antifungal therapy, one due to perceived treatment failure defined by clinical progression or worsening. Global treatment response at study completion was successful in 66 participants who transitioned to enteral therapy.

Programmable and modular systems capable of orthogonal genomic and transcriptomic perturbations are crucial for biological research and treating human genetic diseases. Here, we present the minimal versatile genetic perturbation technology (mvGPT), a flexible toolkit designed for simultaneous and orthogonal gene editing, activation, and repression in human cells. The mvGPT combines an engineered compact prime editor (PE), a fusion activator MS2-p65-HSF1 (MPH), and a drive-and-process multiplex array that produces RNAs tailored to different types of genetic perturbation. mvGPT can precisely edit human genome via PE coupled with a prime editing guide RNA and a nicking guide RNA, activate endogenous gene expression …

Abstract According to the World Health Organization, over 39 million children are categorized as obese.1 Several factors contribute to obesity: diet, lifestyle, environment, genetics, and socioeconomic factors.2 The most effective form of eradicating obesity is through preventative measures.2 Prevention through early exposure to nutrition education can build healthy habits and reduce the likelihood of obesity related comorbidities.3 This study’s aim was to determine if children who participate in a 12-week nutrition education program could sustain similar eating patterns, participation in meal preparation, and nutrition knowledge 6 months post program. Background: The advantages of breastfeeding and its role in emergencies are undeniable. Studies show that many women in developed countries choose formula over breastmilk, even in emergencies. Nevertheless, no one knows if postpartum women under the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program turned out to breastfeed or re-lactate their infants during these crises. This study aims to better understand WIC participants' perceptions about breastfeeding their babies in emergencies.

BACKGROUND: Online grocery shopping is a growing source of food purchases in many countries. We investigated the effect of nudging consumers towards purchases of lower sodium products using a web browser extension.

METHODS: This trial was conducted among individuals with hypertension who shopped for their groceries online in Australia. From July 2021 to June 2023, participants were randomised to use the SaltSwitch Online Grocery Shopping web browser extension or continue their usual grocery shopping for 12 weeks. In this paper, we adopt a sufficientarian ethics approach to study the concern of consumption inadequacy engendered by climate change in subsistence communities. The sufficientarian approach to consumption ethics dictates that in the face of climate change, priority should be afforded to establishing and maintaining consumption adequacy in low-income settings. We elaborate on the basic principles underlying sufficientarian ethics and compare it to alternative approaches such as utilitarian ethics and prioritarian ethics. This study explores how NGOs achieve sustainability goals as they focus on poverty alleviation through ecological capability building. In-depth semi-structured interviews with nine representatives of NGOs working on poverty alleviation were conducted and subjected to thematic analysis within a critical realist perspective. Findings show that the NGOs engage their communities in all the different stages of their programs, creating a sense of empowerment that becomes the foundation for their ecological meta-capability, a holistic approach to the development of human capability that considers social, economic, and environmental aspects.
