Current Career Counseling Practices In Community Colleges, Kristin D. Stewart

Graduate Research Papers

When the community college came into being in the early 1900 1 s, its goals were trifold: (a) to offer courses traditionally taught by the four year colleges during the first two years, (b) to train workers for jobs in a flourishing industrial nation, and (c) to enhance social equality. The community college's close proximity and open door admission policy gave almost everyone a chance to attend college.

G84-716 Management Of The Weanling Calf, Paul Q. Guyer, Donald B. Hudson Jan 1984

G84-716 Management Of The Weanling Calf, Paul Q. Guyer, Donald B. Hudson

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide outlines a program for preventing sickness and death losses in newly weaned calves, including stress prevention, vaccinations, nutrition, and treatment of sick calves.

Sickness and death loss following weaning robs both calf producers and cattle feeders of potential profits. The weanling calf has not acquired adequate immunity to the variety of diseases that plague the beef industry. At weaning and/or shipping, the calf is usually subjected to various stresses, in addition to being separated from its mother, that contribute to disease outbreaks. A program for minimizing weight loss, sickness, and death in newly weaned calves should include: 1) …

Toward A Concise Definition And Perspective For Biology, Arthur V. Brown, Kristine Basinger Brown Jan 1984

Toward A Concise Definition And Perspective For Biology, Arthur V. Brown, Kristine Basinger Brown

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

The content of introductory biology courses at the high school and college levels are currently being re-examined. Many biological educators favor revision of the high school biology courses to a format that directly addresses current social issues to "promote good citizenship". We believe it would be more meaningful to teach the fundamental principles of biology, the study of living systems. Properly defining biology, by defining a living system, should help identify important topics to include in a basic biology course. Emphasis should be placed on subjects which would contribute most to the development of a basic understanding of how all …
