Subtle Communication Skills Necessary To Be An Effective Principal, Cathleen Anne Molumby Jan 1987

Subtle Communication Skills Necessary To Be An Effective Principal, Cathleen Anne Molumby

Graduate Research Papers

After researching the characteristics or qualities of an effective principal, there seemed to be two recurring themes. One component, the Vision or "Cultural Content" of the principal, included the principal's expectations, goals, values, and direction for the school. The second component addressed the "Symbols" which are used to communicate the principal's vision. Symbols used can be either formal (direct) or informal (subtle). Emphasis will be placed on the subtle communication symbols used by a principal in order to achieve an effective and/or healthy school.

Changing Nursing Students' Attitudes Toward The Elderly, Kay C. Froehner

Graduate Research Papers

The age distribution of the United States' population has changed dramatically in the twentieth century. Decreased birth rates and increased longevity have produced a sevenfold increase since 1900 in the number of persons over the age of 65. In 1980, 11. 3% of the population was over 65 as compared to 4.1% in 1900. This trend is expected to continue as demonstrated by the 1980 census figures. The 1970 census reported 20,065,502 persons in this age group. By 1980, this figure had risen to 25,544,133, a 28% increase in ten years. It is further estimated that by the year 2000, …

G87-849 Vaccinations In Sheep Flocks, Dale M. Grotelueschen

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

High economic return per dollar invested can result from proper flock health management. Vaccinations are part of health management.

A preventive health program in modern sheep production systems is advisable. High economic return per dollar invested can result from proper flock health management. Health management is much more than a vaccination program. Vaccinations themselves are considered for a variety of reasons. These include disease risk management and strict prevention. Vaccinations may also be indicated in situations where management practices other than vaccine administration do not produce optimum health or economic benefits.

It is not feasible to outline one vaccination program …

G87-851 Improving Reproductive Performance And Productivity Of Beef Herds, Gene H. Deutscher

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

NebGuide discusses management practices that can be used to improve reproduction and productivity of beef herds. The major objective of cow-calf producers should be to wean a calf from each cow every year. The average calf crop weaned in Nebraska is estimated at 80 calves weaned per 100 cows in breeding herds. A realistic goal is 90 to 95 calves weaned per 100 cows.

Academic Survival Skills For The Young Child At-Risk For School Failure, Barbara Foulks

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of this study was to identify social competence and academic survival skills necessary for success in kindergarten. The study was designed to indicate similarities and differences among early childhood educators in (a) academic survival skills considered necessary for success in kindergarten, and (b) behaviors considered inappropriate for kindergarten. A review of the literature revealed minimal research related to academic survival skills and social competence in kindergarten.

In order to ascertain which skills early childhood educators consider crucial for the child's successful survival in kindergarten, the Social Behavior Skills Inventory (Walker & Rankin, 1980) was utilized as a …

Nutrition Profile Of Dietetic Technology Students: An Assessment Of Application Of Classroom Theory Learned., Perla Miranda-Kushida

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

A unique advantage of being enrolled in the Dietetic Technology program at Malcom X College is that it provides the students with the knowledge of nutrition theory as part of their curriculum requirement for graduation. With this in mind, it was the hypothesis that these students will be practicing good nutritional habits for themselves besides being prepared for a career in this field.

Because nutrition and health promotion have awakened a national consciousness at preventing illnesses, the Allied Health Department suggested that nutrition should be made part of the curriculum for all allied health students. However, the college administration, conscious …

Development Of Weekend Semesters In The Dietetic Technology - Nutrition Program At Malcolm X College For Chicago Full-Time Employees., Perla Miranda-Kushida

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The implications of enrollment decline at Malcom X College has created a dilemma and major economic concern to the college that it launched a college-wide marketing approach to attract new types of students in addition to high school graduates. Responding to this campaign, the Dietetic Technology-Nutrition program targeted the employees working full-time in hospitals and health care facilities’ dietary departments through a needs survey. The survey confirmed an overwhelming interest of employees in the program for weekend classes because of their working hours. Hence, the development of the weekend program to provide them with classes on Saturdays and Sundays of …
