What Is The Relationship Between Success On The Limited X-Ray Machine Operator Exam And The First-Attempt Pass Rate On The National Registry Exam Among Radiologic Technology Students In Minnesota?, Britni Hardy

Education Doctorate Dissertations

This quantitative correlational study examined the relationship between success on the Limited X-Ray Machine Operator (LXMO) exam and first-attempt pass rates on the national registry exam among radiologic technology students in Minnesota. The radiologic technology field faces significant challenges, including a 14.9% national attrition rate, workforce shortages, and limited availability of clinical sites. This research explored whether LXMO certification could serve as an innovative approach to address these interrelated issues. Data were collected from the Minnesota Department of Health and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, spanning 2000-2024, and identified n=24 students who had completed both exams. Results revealed that …

Motivation And Engagement In Outreach Activities, Aurora Geisen Oct 2025

Motivation And Engagement In Outreach Activities, Aurora Geisen

College of Engineering Summer Undergraduate Research Program

If the four elements of motivation and engagement are present in engineering outreach activities, does this affect the desire to become an engineer? Four elements: Autonomy, Purpose, Community, Mastery.

If the four elements of motivation and engagement are present/increased, and thereby motivation and engagement increase, do more students attending an engineering outreach event want to become engineers? If yes, then those activities where the four elements are increased/present should show an increase in students who are engaged and motivated to become engineers. If no, then the design of activities is not a major deciding factor in whether a student wants …

This study aims to identify the relevance of physical education to student achievement and disruptive behavior. Based on the literature, data were collected to examine the relationship between students' time in physical education courses, their GPA, and referrals to …

Student Perceptions Of Standards-Based Grading In High School Biology, Scott Bohlman Oct 2025

Student Perceptions Of Standards-Based Grading In High School Biology, Scott Bohlman

Master's Theses & Capstone Projects

Standards-based grading (SBG) redefines the reporting of student achievement by focusing on proficiency in explicitly defined learning standards rather than the accumulation of points. Although SBG has the potential to improve student learning, variation in implementation can create student confusion and hinder effectiveness. This inquiry-based research project investigated student perceptions of SBG in high school biology classrooms at Cedar Falls High School in Iowa to determine whether the system helps students gain the necessary skills and accurately measures their academic ability. The researcher utilized a mixed-methods approach, collecting quantitative data through surveys of 23 high school biology students and qualitative …

Improving Teacher Expectations For Students With Disabilities, Noah Kullmann Oct 2025

Improving Teacher Expectations For Students With Disabilities, Noah Kullmann

Master's Theses & Capstone Projects

Disability labels for students are indicators that are made known to classroom teachers before the beginning of the year and have the possibility to impact what a teacher might expect from a specific student. The purpose of this study was to better understand how disability labels impact the expectations that teachers have for students, and how providing training to teachers by informing them about the characteristics of a disability or research-based practices to use when teaching students with a specific disability impacts their initial expectations. The researcher administered five different surveys to a group of 31 high school and middle …

Engaging Young Writers In The Early Childhood Classroom Setting, Andrea Rubel

Master's Theses & Capstone Projects

Emergent writing is essential component of early childhood growth and development. Preschool students can struggle to engage in early writing activities. Research shows that scaffolding, explicit teaching, and meaningful connections help students' growth in emergent writing skills. This inquiry-based study aims to determine the effectiveness of these strategies in the early childhood classroom and evaluate any other effective strategies. This study included a mixed methods approach including reflective journals and scored student journals. The findings revealed that most students showed improvement towards the learning objective being observed and documented. The study also found that girls performed better than boys on …

Teacher Feedback And Its Impact On Student Achievement And Motivation, Aubrey Schmidt

Master's Theses & Capstone Projects

Effective teacher feedback is a key component of meaningful learning, yet many students do not consistently receive feedback that clearly guides improvement. This inquiry-based study examined how intentional, process-oriented feedback influenced elementary students’ perceptions of their learning over a six-week period. The research focused on feedback that emphasized effort, strategies, and next steps, aiming to support students’ resilience, motivation, and confidence as writers. Findings showed steady increases in students’ understanding of what to do next, their motivation to try harder, and their belief in their own abilities. Writing scores also rose gradually, suggesting that consistent, growth-focused feedback may contribute to …

African American Female College Students’ Experiences At Predominately White Institutions, Sh'nita Louise Mitchell

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

African American women who attend predominantly White institutions (PWIs) have historically encountered systemic challenges that include racial isolation, microaggressions, a lack of cultural understanding, and insufficient institutional support. These barriers often impact their sense of belonging, academic persistence, and overall success. I aimed to explore the lived experiences of African American women who graduated from PWIs to understand how these women navigate institutional structures and sustain their academic journeys. I aimed to examine the unique challenges and supports experienced by African American women, and to identify factors that contribute to or hinder their persistence and success at their PWI. The …

Utilizing Best Practices In The Classroom In Regards To Technology Use, Kathryn Robinson

School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Projects

The research question addressed in this capstone project is: “In what ways do best practices in technology use in the classroom support teachers and students?” During the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were forced to shift online to protect student health. As schools have returned to in-person learning, the influx of technology has not decreased. Studies show that technology use, whether it be social media, screen time, TV, or videogames can be detrimental to brain development. Because of this, it is crucial that there are guidelines for best practice when using technology in the classroom. Further, healthy habits surrounding technology use outside …

The Role Of Gamified Learning In Developing Math Confidence And Procedural Fluency, Celeste Nosow Oct 2025

The Role Of Gamified Learning In Developing Math Confidence And Procedural Fluency, Celeste Nosow

School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Projects

This capstone project sought to answer: In what ways might a gamified math fluency resource focused on increasing math confidence facilitate learning for preadolescent students struggling in math? Research into game-based learning, motivation, and mindset revealed that students can benefit from engaging, collaborative, and low-stakes learning experiences that build fluency through games. Additionally, the environment should foster math confidence and competence in preadolescent learners. The project culminated in the development of a website offering free, low-preparation math games appropriate for grades 3–5. Designed for teachers and substitute educators, the learning materials provided emphasize social interaction, inclusivity, and equitable access. This …
