The United States is in the midst of a second public health revolution (Califano, 1979). The success of the first revolution during the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century lead to the control or eradication of major acute diseases such as; influenza, pneumonia, diphtheria, tuberculosis and gastrointestinal infections. While the death rates from these major diseases fell sharply, from 580 for every 100,000 people in 1900 to less than 30 people per 100,000 in 1970, the proportion of mortality from major chronic and degenerative diseases, such as cancer, stroke and heart disease, increased more than …

The Prevalence And Certain Sources Of Teacher Stress Among Elementary School Teachers, Emma L. Turner
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of this study was to determine the prevalence and certain sources of stress among elementary school teachers (grades kindergarten through six), and the relationship of stress to certain selected teacher factors. This study followed the ex post facto design which attempted to determine if certain teacher factors affected the way in which teachers responded to the questionnaire regarding the prevalence and sources of stress perceived. The Teacher Stress Questionnaire was selected to assess the prevalence and certain sources of stress of elementary teachers regarding sex, age, length of time in the teaching profession, length of time in the …

G81-574 Reproductive Diseases In Cattle, Duane Rice
G81-574 Reproductive Diseases In Cattle, Duane Rice
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
The reproductive diseases mentioned in this NebGuide comprise some of the more common problems confronting the cattle industry today.
Although many advances have been made in controlling reproductive diseases in cattle, serious losses are still common. These losses can be reduced by recognizing the diseases and following the proper management recommendations that are available today. Nearly 50 percent of reproductive failure in cattle is due to infectious diseases, and there are vaccines available that can prevent some of these. Management recommendations may include: 1) vaccines, 2) general sanitation, 3) artificial insemination (AI) or, if a problem is already present, 4) …

The Interrelationship Of Leader Self-Actualization And Life Stressors To The Resultant Incidence Of Reported Medical Problems Of Middle Management Educators, John S. Thatcher
Dissertations
Schools, being a part of the larger social system, have not escaped the increasing pressures evident in our society. The principalship as an important component of the educational process has not enjoyed immunity from this same problem.
Because school principals are individuals, they react differently to life stressors. Some appear to have the ability to handle all stressors without suffering any onset of medical problems. Others appear not to have this immunity and as a result have medical difficulties. Because of this seeming difference and because of a lack of research of this type in education, the relationships between life …

Reverence For Life: An Ethic For High School Biology Curricula, George K. Russell
Reverence For Life: An Ethic For High School Biology Curricula, George K. Russell
Education Collection
Ethical and pedagogical arguments are presented against the use of animals by high school students in experiments causing pain/suffering/death of the animal. No justification is seen for such experimentation when perfectly valid alternatives, using noninvasive techniques, exist or could be developed. An important concern is the emotional and psychological growth of young people. An overall objective of high school biology curricula must be to assist students in making viable connections with living biological processes and the natural world.

Health Curriculum: Kindergarten Through Tenth Grade, Linda Kay Niendiek
Masters Theses
Objectives
The purpose of this field study was to develop a health curriculum for grades kindergarten through tenth grade of Teutopolis Community Unit School District #50. The reasons for developing this health curriculum were:
- To assure a continuous program of health instruction throughout the Teutopolis School System.
- To assure a program of instruction that follows a logical continuum rather than a repetitious one.
- To assure that students are familiar with the physical, mental, and social aspects of health.
Procedures
Teachers in the elementary grades met on several occasions, in small groups, with the health education teacher to discuss what health …

Introduction
In modern man's attempt to understand human nature, two major modes of perceiving human experience, the humanistic and scientific, have often been in conflict. C.P. Snow labelled this dichotomy "the two cultures." As the power of science and accompanying technology have grown in the past forty years, the distance …
