The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas
The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas
Education Student Dissertations
While reading the "Principles of Educational Sociology" by Walter Robinson Smith, the writer was deeply impressed by the statement that "Next to the family group and home life, the play group and play life exert the most vital influence upon the unfolding personality of the child." The writer wondered if it was the absence of play life, as American born children of fair social background experience it, that would in some measure explain the dullness of the Italian-American child of Sicilian and Neapolitan origin, who, as the writer knew him, was so lovable, so anxious and eager to please and …

The Unit Method Of Teaching General Science In High Schools, M. Maxentia
Bachelors’ Theses

This experimentation was carried on, not only by the heads of the science and educational departments of our colleges and universities, the superintendents, and principals of high schools, but also by the teachers themselves. It has been a question of what to teach in general science and how to teach it so that the pupil would get the best knowledge of the subject and acquire the ability of proper application of this knowledge in …

Adapting Instruction To The Needs Of A First Grade, Genevieve Y. Younge
Adapting Instruction To The Needs Of A First Grade, Genevieve Y. Younge
Bachelors’ Theses
Fortunately for the young child as well as for society we have evidences of the growing appreciation of the educational possibilities of early childhood. This is manifested in the opportunities provided by universities for the training of teachers of childhood. Teachers College, John Hopkins, Yale, Harvard and the universities of Iowa and Columbia offer research courses in this particular study.
In 1905 a conscious attempt was made to work out a technique of teaching built upon a new conception of the teacher as a guide rather than as a dictator, but few were interested, so the attempt was not revived …

Care Of Laboratory Equipment, Harold E. Murphy

A condition of this kind places extra work upon the teacher and uses valuable time that is needed in class room instruction.
