Effects Of Diglossia On The Acquisition Of Underlying Reading Processes: Toward Pragmatic Solutions, Mohammed R. Jouhar Phd

International Journal for Research in Education

The purpose of this systematic review was to investigate how diglossia hinders the acquisition of underlying reading processes of Arabic-speaking students and recommend pragmatic solutions that would help Arabic teachers in developing their students’ reading abilities. Results of the included studies showed that Arabic-speaking students lack standard phonemes, phonological and morphological patterns, and letters missing from their local Arabic vernaculars, which in turn, affect their word reading abilities. Nevertheless, it takes six years of systematic exposure to standard Arabic to close the linguistic gap between students’ oral and written language in terms of phonemes, letters, and phonological and morphological patterns. …

The study aimed to identify the extent to which the standards of quality assurance of higher education are applied in Jordan from the point of view of the faculty members. In 2019, the U.S. Department of Education (DED) began increasing its enforcement of the Higher Education Act, Section 117 statute, which provides instructions for institutional reporting regarding foreign and contracts. The number of complaints of tourist visitors who hear oblique comments from tour guides who are not friendly/polite in speaking to visitors is the basis for this important research. The aim of the research is to "analyze the forms of directive speech acts of tour guides in Pesisir Selatan, West Sumatra. This type of research is descriptive qualitative approach to descriptive analysis. Collection techniques through observation, recording. Data validation uses internal and external validity tests. Abstract: The study aimed to investigate the most common big five personality factors among Ajloun University College – Al-Balqa’a Applied University students, and to identify; and to study the relationship between the two variables. The study sample consisted of (602) university students’ selected using proportional stratified random sampling. To achieve the aims of the study, the big five-personality factors scale adopted by Al-Zoubi (2009) and the emotional regulation scale adopted by Groos& John (2003) were used. The purpose of this descriptive exploratory case study is to explore the collaboration between the University of Central Riyadh (UCR) (pseudonym) teacher preparation program and public schools in preparing teachers. This study was framed using the theory of social constructivism. Qualitative methodology was used to collect data by using semi-structured interviews with three university supervisors (USs), three cooperating teachers (CTs), and three preservice teachers (PSTs). All the participants were from the curriculum and instructor department at UCR. The qualitative data were thematically analyzed using NVivo software. This study assesses L2 Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA) Learners' Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC). The study participants were 19 L2 (ECA) learners who completed one semester at least in Egypt. The participants were only from two proficiency levels; the advanced and high-intermediate levels. The current study used a mixed methodological approach for data collection, beginning with an ICC test and concluding with a series of follow-up semi-structured interviews with ten participants. The study aimed to identify the functional role of the media in light of the Corona pandemic from the point of view of a sample of Palestinian community members in Hebron, and to uncover the existence of differences between members of the sample according to variables: (gender, age, educational qualification, place of residence). This research aimed at investigating about the preferred learning styles and the effect of some variables such as the university branch, gender, education program, academic year, specialization, and cumulative average. To achieve that, the two researchers used the Index of learning styles (ILS) developed by Felder and Solomon (Lit zingeret al., 2005) consisting of 44 items to evaluate learning preferences, and which was applied on purpose cluster sample of (345) students. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is a collection of advanced statistical methods that has recently and limitedly become used in Arabic research. The purpose of this research is to illustrate how to use SEM in a study to explain the phenomenon of cyberbullying using the theory of planned behavior on a sample of 307 students at Hail university. The five steps in SEM are outlined: model specification, identification, estimation, testing, and modification. In addition, the recommended best practices, which are rarely found in studies, are explained: two-stage estimation, and alternative models.

Little research has been conducted on Arab American students at universities and specifically, in the heritage language studies field. The experiences of Arab American heritage language (AAHL) students are significantly less examined than those of other heritage language students. Arabic language curricula and instructional practices in universities tend to privilege the teaching of Modern Standard Arabic over dialects, which marginalizes heritage learners' prior knowledge of the Arabic culture and its language, specifically Arabic dialects used in their home communities. The research problem this qualitative study addresses is how Native American history, and European settler colonialism, can be critically taught in a developmentally appropriate manner, avoiding eurocentrism and whitewashing. Most research on Ethnic Studies and teacher preparation is focused on the high school level.
