Book Aids For The Teacher Of Geography In The Elementary School, Stella M. Frye
Book Aids For The Teacher Of Geography In The Elementary School, Stella M. Frye
Bachelors’ Theses
In America, the development of the study of geography has been very slow, and until recent years, this country could boast of very few geographers, and had made little progress in the field of geographic research. Germany and France have long been leaders in this field, and some of the moot reliable authorities on the subject are the French and German geographers. Almost every country in Europe "now has its professional geographers and geography has long been recognized as a subject for independent study and research."

Teachers of high school biology are often handicapped by a lack of living material. This is particularly true in the teaching of insects. Most texts in biology use the grasshopper as a type of insect, largely, I suppose, because of its familiarity to the average pupil.

Science Bulletin
The article last month dealt with reagent bottles. Another problem is met in the proper care of iron ware - the special target of the corrosive laboratory fumes. To supply the pupil with rusty, oxide encrusted metal equipment is to encourage careless, slovenly work. An annual "paint day" is essential.

A Proposed Course In General Science For The Portola High School, Homer Dewitt Hildebrant
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis the author's first aim is to not forth a science course that will awaken the students of this high school to a realization of the significance end value of their environment, and thereby stimulate their interest and appreciation of things scientific. We are living in the midst of a great scientific age, and application of scientific knowledge will continue more and more to dominate our life. It is essential then that our high school boys and girls should learn how to adapt themselves to this life of scientific application, and be able to interpret their own environment …

Articulation Of Junior And Senior High School Curricula, Belle Joachims
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Our American school system with its distinction between elementary and secondary schools grew out of European tradisione. The history of secondary education in America abone that there have been three periods of development, each characterized by a dietinot type of school. As our colonial policies were shaped by Europeans, naturally our schools were organized to confora with the European institutions; and the Latin grammar school was the dominant institution for secondary education in American until the middle of the eighteenth century. During the Revolutionary period there was a tendency to turn from the school fostering social distinction to one more …

What Are We Teaching In Biology?, C. W. Lantz
What Are We Teaching In Biology?, C. W. Lantz
Science Bulletin
This subject in order to be of real value must be an actual study of plants and animals. I have observed in my teaching that pupils, when given recognition characters of trees, may be able to pass a satisfactory examination on these characters, but fail to recognize the trees they describe when they see them in the field. They have simply memorized words that mean nothing to them.
Highway Signs In Science Teaching, Winifred Gilbert
Highway Signs In Science Teaching, Winifred Gilbert
Science Bulletin
Let me assume that the General Science teachers of the state have been well prepared for their work and that at the present time they are more or less efficient teachers. Still there is the ever present task of keeping up with the curricular and learning studies that are going on in the field of General Science. New texts are appearing, yearly, new studies on content and methods seem to be on the increase and it takes rather nimble stepping on the part of the teacher to keep pace.
