Wings, Roy L. Abbott
Wings, Roy L. Abbott
Science Bulletin
When 'wings' are mentioned, most people at once think of birds. But wings, and the consequent power of flight, are by no means limited to birds. Among the mammals, for example, bats have wings and are excellent flyers. In both birds and bats, the wings are merely modified front legs.
Waves, L. Begeman
Waves, L. Begeman
Science Bulletin
Of all the phenomena of the physical world, none is more important than that of waves. The average individual naturally assumes that the only waves of any importance in nature are water waves. To the student of science, however, there are other waves in nature far more important than those which we see rolling over the surface of a lake or of the ocean.
The High-Powered Skunk, Roy L. Abbott
The High-Powered Skunk, Roy L. Abbott
Science Bulletin
I can think of no animal that is at once so provoking and repelling of attention as the common skunk. His bright little face, clean black and white fur, plume-like tail, and fat roly-poly body all invite one to take liberties with him, yet a single move towards such familiarity, and he is transformed instantly into a thing vilely incredible, paralyzing, stupefying, insufferable.

Suggestions For Biology Or Nature Clubs, Ross W. Harris
Suggestions For Biology Or Nature Clubs, Ross W. Harris
Science Bulletin
The very first requirement for a successful club of this nature is enthusiasm for and an interest in the. world of living things. The sparks for kindling enthusiasm must come from off the hearth of the sponsor. While the students must be guided they should be led to feel that it is their program that they are working out and not that of a teacher who grants credit for participation.
Consider The Sparrow
Science Bulletin
Most of the birds which you and I know best are fair-weather friends. That is to say, they stay with us just so long as the sun is warm and food is plentiful, but when winter comes, they forsake us. Nearly all of our common birds behave thus, which must mean, if birds are anything like humans, that it is our climate and not ourselves that they like.

National Geography Meetings, Alison E. Aitchison
National Geography Meetings, Alison E. Aitchison
Science Bulletin
The Christmas vacation always brings a full quota of meetings of interest to those who are engaged in educational work. Especially does this seem true for those interested in science. Two meetings of value to geographers were held at Ypsilanti, Michigan, where the new Union building, an alumni project of the Michigan State Normal College, afforded an excellent meeting place.
The Lure Of The Turtle, Roy L. Abbott
The Lure Of The Turtle, Roy L. Abbott
Science Bulletin
I believe I never meet with a turtle without looking at him a second time at least, and I usually pick him up if I have an opportunity. For there is a lure about him, he attracts me powerfully though I can not tell just why. It may be partly admiration for his mighty ancestry, partly pity for his fallen estate, but some of it is just plain, everyday liking for his rather unprepossessing self. But there is plenty to see in him for all that!

The Story Of An Australian Nursery School, Mary Valentine Gutteridge
The Story Of An Australian Nursery School, Mary Valentine Gutteridge
Australian Educational Studies
The opening of this Nursery School forms a part of an extensive movement that is taking place in many countries of the world. The Nursery School has sprung into existence to meet the needs of the child, who, no longer a baby in arms, is not yet ready for the activities of the kindergarten. This child at eighteen months has outgrown the ordinary nursery; is longing for something that will challenge his growing powers of mind and body, and for the opportunity of playing with those of his own age and strength. The Nursery School is a definite result of …

Rb32-270 A Seven Year Study Of A Milk Supply, P.A. Downs
Rb32-270 A Seven Year Study Of A Milk Supply, P.A. Downs
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
The amount of butter produced by the grain-belt states is evidence that a great many cows are milked by the midwestern farmer. Most of this milk is separated on the farm, the cream is sold, and the skimmilk is fed to hogs and other livestock. As the market for fluid milk has developed, many farmers near the cities have turned to the sale of milk, because it affords a better return for the butterfat sold. Much of the milk produced for sale as fluid milk is produced under practically the same conditions as milk which is produced primarily for the …
