Understanding Modern Art., John Kenneth Davis Aug 1950

Understanding Modern Art., John Kenneth Davis

All Master's Theses

This study was motivated by the Author’s frequent experience of being questioned as to the everyday functional values of modern art and its purpose in relation to the betterment of individual and group living. The inability to present reasonable and concrete factors in a saleable capacity instigated a desire to conduct research in the interest of self enlightenment and the promotion toward a better understanding of our contemporary unfamiliar art. This leads directly into the problems of this study; how can society better understand modern art as a functional value in everyday living?

Comparative Effectiveness Of Elementary School Achievement In English Speaking Countries, Arthur R. Self Jul 1950

Comparative Effectiveness Of Elementary School Achievement In English Speaking Countries, Arthur R. Self

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The general problem of this study was to determine the relative effectiveness or general progress of instruction of school children in English speaking countries of the world as compared with the progress in certain Kansas schools. Teachers and headmasters in the foreign countries were careful to mention the fact that many processes of learning are different in their country than it is in the United States. Such spelling words as program (programme), center (centre), and labor (labour) could not be used, and problems dealing in dollars and cents were not used.

These objectives are the development of understandings of scientific principles, the development of scientific attitudes, and training in the skills of the scientific method.

The Psycho-Physical Evaluation Of Selected Textbooks In High School English, William G. Hegarty May 1950

The Psycho-Physical Evaluation Of Selected Textbooks In High School English, William G. Hegarty

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

That there is a need for scientific analysis and appraisal in the selection of textbooks is well established. The use of a flexible rating scale or chart that may be modified from time to time to meet the needs of present day English fundamentals is of great value in the selection of high school textbooks. Out of such conditions as these arose the particular problem of this thesis, which, specifically stated, is The Psycho-physical Evaluation of Selected Textbooks in School English. The problem is designated psycho-physical evaluation because the study has two areas of investigation. The physical investigation deals only …
