Rooted in a constructivist pedagogical framework, the research examines how GeoGebra facilitates interactive and exploratory learning environments that encourage active student engagement and deeper comprehension of trigonometric ratio principles.
The study employed a quantitative approach to evaluate the efficacy of GeoGebra. Quantitative data focused on student achievement in solving trigonometric ratio problems through pre- and …
Parenting With Grace, Eva Nelson Cole
Parenting With Grace, Eva Nelson Cole
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Parents are often caught off guard by the upheaval of adding children to their lives. Feelings of guilt, shame, isolation, and depression can arise when parents are faced with the demands and stressors that come along with having children. Studies have shown that children who have distressed parents endure lasting negative outcomes that can extend into the primary school years (Mihelic et al., 2018). Educating parents and giving them some awareness about what to expect can make a real difference. To have these conversations, I created a two-part parenting workshop for new parents at Parents’ Place in Pacific Grove, CA. …

A119: Intermittent Hypoxic Training Promotes Whole-Body Hif-1Α Expression To Improve Exercise Capacity, Yuepeng Li, Lan Zheng
International Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Research Context: It has been shown that a hypoxic environment induces up-regulation of HIF-1α and changes in its downstream gene sequences, and that exercising under hypoxic conditions improves athletes' sprint performance. However, there is more controversy regarding the effects of exercise under hypoxic conditions on exercise capacity, and the molecular mechanisms have been less well studied. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the link between HIF-1α expression and exercise capacity under hypoxic conditions of exercise, and to provide a realistic theoretical basis for intermittent hypoxic training to improve exercise capacity.
Research Methodology: A total of 480 wild-type …

Designing Technology-Enriched Learning Environments: The Effects Of An Agent-Based Computer Model On Biology Students' Understanding Of The Covid-19 Pandemic And The Nature Of Models In Science, April Sullivan
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present
Science education researchers have called for increased attention to the science practice of modeling to engage students in authentic scientific inquiry. A major challenge to integrating the modeling practice into science instruction is that students tend to conceptualize models as static end-products of research rather than generative tools for theory-building. Engaging students in using computer models, specifically agent-based computer models (ABMs), to explain and predict scientific phenomena could improve students' understanding of models in science. In this design-based research project I investigate the effects of an ABM-supported learning environment on high-school biology students' understanding of the COVID-19 pandemic and the …

The Statue: Representing Queerness In Myth And Fairytale Through Animation, Alana Mcanulty
The Statue: Representing Queerness In Myth And Fairytale Through Animation, Alana Mcanulty
Postgraduate
There is a preexisting overlap of myth and fairytale, queer representation, and animated film. Many of the earliest animated films were adaptations of fairy tales, and those adaptations often included queer-coded villains. This is usually where the combination of all three of these elements ends, often falling short of meaningful representation (Baker, 2010). Fairytale and animation are synonymous in our modern cultural understanding (Holiday and Sergeant, 2018) after all, the first full length animated feature film was an adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). Queer representation within the fairytale and mythology genre is not a new area …
