Subjectivity In The Valuation Of Games, Robert J. Weber Jan 1979

Subjectivity In The Valuation Of Games, Robert J. Weber

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

The recent axiomatic study of probabilistic values of games has clarified the relationship between various valuation methods and the players’ subjective perceptions of the coalition-formation process. This has important bearing upon the increasingly-common use of the Banzhaf value in measuring the apportionment of power among the players in voting games. The incompatibility of the players’ hypothesized subjective beliefs (under the Banzhaf valuation scheme) leads to the strange phenomenon of “pitfall” points (points of value discontinuity) in weighted majority games with several major players and an ocean of minor players. Such results argue against the use of the Banzhaf value (or …

Economic Feasibility Of Ethanol, Methanol And Alcohol-Gasoline Blends As Alternatives To Gasoline As Motor Fuels, Marjorie Diane Pettypool

Masters Theses

The major emphasis of this study is the economic feasibility of the use of alcohol-gasoline blends (gasohol) and alcohol fuels; but all major issues concerning the use of gasohol and alcohol fuels are explored. The specific objectives of the investigation include the determination of the specific performance properties of the fuels, their pollutant emissions (compared to gasoline), and their costs compared to gasoline.

While opponents to the use of alcohol fuels are more vocal than proponents, citing high cost and the lack of raw materials as objections, proponents believe new processes that can use any cellulose containing material as a …

The "Stationarity" Of Shadow Prices Of Factors In Project Evaluation, With And Without Distortions, Jagdish N. Bhagwati, Henry Wan Jr.

Faculty Scholarship

Until recently, the literature on cost-benefit analysis for projects has been largely within the domain of research on "public monopoly," literature currently reviewed by Jacques Lesourne, (ch. 3), and the work of public finance theorists as typified in the celebrated practical work of Ian Little and James Mirrlees in their Manual, and in the recent theoretical contribution of Peter Diamond and Mirrlees. International trade theorists have, however, turned now to the analysis of these problems, starting with the early work of Vijay Joshi and Deepak Lai, then that of W. M. Thought, Word And Deed In The Mid-Tudor Commonwealth : Sir Thomas Smith And Sir William Cecil In The Reign Of Edward Vi, Ann B. Clark

Dissertations and Theses

This thesis examines the general economic and intellectual climate of the mid-Tudor Commonwealth as a background for a specific study of the financial reforms instituted by Edward VI's government while the Duke of Northumberland controlled the Privy Council. The philosophy behind these measures parallels the principles expressed in A Discourse of the Commonweal of this Realm of England, a treatise written in 1549 by Sir Thomas Smith, Secretary to King Edward. In 1551-1552 the implementation of financial reform fell to Sir William Cecil, also King's Secretary and Northumberland's key administrator on the Council. In establishing the link between Smith's ideas …
