The Military As Agents Of Development: The Nigerian Case-Study, 1970-1979, William Ross Ennenbach

Masters Theses

The nation of Nigeria, located in sub-Saharan West Africa, was considered one of the former European colonies possessing the potentials after its independence in 1960 to develop itself as both a viable political as well as economic system. The attributes so often identified with such successful developmental efforts of nations in the past--abundant human and natural resources--were the positive factors political scientists and economists considered as being of primary importance if the full potentials of Nigeria were to be realized.

However, the road towards the economic and political development of Nigeria has not been an easy one due to several …

Money, The Dynamics Of Inflation And The Balance Of Payments In Latin America, 1947-1976, Anthony Cassese Jan 1979

Money, The Dynamics Of Inflation And The Balance Of Payments In Latin America, 1947-1976, Anthony Cassese

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

The main focus of this dissertation is to empirically test a number of assumptions of simple monetary models of the balance of payments using annual data on sixteen Latin American countries. The usual assumption of rapid price arbitrage is shown not to hold for most of these countries. Moreover, by using the technique developed by Granger, it is shown that the domestic rate of inflation is not an exogenous determinant of the respective official settlements balance of payments for most of these countries. Therefore, single equation models of the balance of payments which use the domestic rate of inflation as …

Rothbard's Intellectual Ancestry, Arthur M. Diamond Jr. Jan 1979

Rothbard's Intellectual Ancestry, Arthur M. Diamond Jr.

Economics Faculty Publications

Murray Rothbard is a prominent spokesman for neo-Austrian economics, yet the economics profession has not taken him seriously enough to investigate his claims. He and his disciples invite this neglect by treating the Rothbardian corpus more as creed-to-be-adhered-to than as theory-to-be-tested-and-improved-on. The profession's neglect is nonetheless unwise. Even if neo-Austrian economics turns out to be unsound, it should be taken seriously because of the growing number of intelligent people who identify themselves as Austrians.

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Throughout their history, human societies have been faced with many issues. In this study, the focus will be upon the issue of hunger in less developed countries that has presently reached a critical stage that threatens human existence.
